    Life threatening incident!

    rating20 May 2026

I visited Montecatini while traveling on a Gate 1 Travel tour, with my group arriving on 05/18/26. The first day was totally uneventful. But the next day, after coming back from an excursion, I found around 20–30 dead honeybees in my hotel room. I have a severe bee allergy and carry an EpiPen because of the risk of anaphylaxis.I immediately went to the front desk in tears asking for management, only to be told no manager was on site. While I was there, another Gate 1 tour manager witnessed the situation. My room was changed, and the rest of the evening was fine.On 05/20/26, during another excursion, I ran into the same tour manager who had been there during the first incident. She told me that hotel staff had actually found a hive outside my window. Even though she called them wasps, I knew they were honeybees. Then, on 05/21/26, after returning from an excursion in Florence, I found several dead bees and multiple live bees inside my new room. Once again, I went to the front desk asking for management, and once again I was told no manager was available.A staff member came with me to the room to check things out. He saw the bees and kept taking photos and videos but didn’t actually do anything about them. I begged him to kill the live bees in the bathroom, but he didn’t. I went back to the front desk and insisted the situation be escalated, explaining again that a bee sting could cause anaphylaxis and potentially kill me.At that point, my Gate 1 tour manager was contacted. I don’t know exactly what was said, but my tour manager and the bartender, Roberto, came to the room, killed the live bees, and tried to figure out where they were getting in. They found what looked like another hive outside the window, sprayed the area, and really did their best to make me feel safe. The hotel staff offered to move me again, but by then it was obvious this wasn’t just one bad room — it seemed like a bigger hotel issue. My Gate 1 tour guide explained that they tried to find another hotel, but everything nearby was booked and any available option would have been a downgrade. Since I was leaving in about 12 hours anyway, I reluctantly agreed to stay for the night. What upset me most throughout this whole experience was the complete lack of urgency around what could have been a life-threatening situation.

    Lovely stay

    rating11 Nov 2025

Stayed here for 5 nights which were very enjoyable. All staff very pleasant and helpful. We were upgraded to a suite. Nice to have a separate area to sit after a day out in the 40+ degree heat. Our room was comfortable and clean. Enjoyed breakfast but choice quite limited. We were some of the few guests that seemed to use swimming pool which although small it was always easy to get sunloungers and pool itself was very welcoming in the heat. Centre of town not far away and plenty of restaurants to choose from. A trip to Montecatini Alto is highly recommended. Very difficult to get taxi back from funicular station however but ticket man at the station didn’t give up trying for us, for which we were very grateful as my husband with a recent leg injury would not have been able to walk.

    Best in Montecatini Terme

    rating05 Nov 2025

Located in a quiet part of town and yet only a few minute's walk to the center, this hotel has always exceeded our expectations over the many years we have used it for both pleasure and business. As tour guides and travel organizers we have experienced a lot of hotels over the past 30-some years but Grand Hotel Francia e Quirinale stands out on many levels, from the warm welcome at reception, to the cleanliness of the rooms and premises, from the spacious bar and lounge area to the traditional Tuscan food served at the restaurant. Of the 6 hotels we have used in Montecatini Terme to accomodate our small groups of American travelers over the years, this hotel remains, by far, unparalleled. Among many other friendly staff members, thank you to Martina and Fabio at reception, Roberto at the bar and Giuseppe the restaurant maestro!

    Nice Hotel, Good Location

    rating28 Sept 2025

Stayed here for three nights whilst visiting Florence and Pisa as part of a Travelsphere tour. We only had breakfast in the hotel but there was a decent choice of food. The staff were nice particularly the barman who was amusing and tried to teach us bits of Italian. We had evening meals at other close by restaurants in the town. Our room was overlooking the terrace roadside seating area and the street but we never heard any noise whatsover when sleeping at night. It is only 15 minutes walk through the local park to the lower funicular station that takes you to Montecatini Alto and abot 6-7 minutes into the town centre.

    Wonderful hotel!

    rating23 Sept 2025

We enjoyed a recent two weeks stay in Montecatini and loved this hotel! Fantastic location for the railway and bus stations and also the funicular railway up to Montecatini Alto and wandering around the beautiful park. The food for breakfast and evening meals were all excellent and the staff at Francia Quirnale are all wonderful, particularly Doreen , Guiseppe and the restaurant staff and the cheery barman, Roberto. The beautiful lounge area was perfect for relaxing before or after dinner and the pool area was always clean and well maintained. Our room faced the busy road at the front but we were not disturbed by the regular coming and goings of tourist coaches. Our bed was super comfy but we did have two slight niggles about the room. There was only one chair on the balcony and also no hooks , eg on the back of the door , to hang damp towel after a shower. But this is truly a fabulous hotel where guests are made to feel so welcome and relaxed, making for a wonderful holiday!
