Perfect place to stay for visiting the Roman sites in the area.

I give this hotel a 4 out of 5 because it met most of our needs. It’s close to Herculaneum, train networks, very friendly and helpful staff. If there’s a problem they try and sort it quickly. I think despite what people have said it is a clean place and I am fussy. Liked the lovely fresh fruit salad at breakfast, the extensive grounds, the hidden old staircase, the faded grandeur. We didn’t use the pool as we swim in the sea but it looked well maintained. Disliked all the plastic flower decs. Fresh brown bread would be good. Bedside lights. We did everything without a car. All transport via train network from Napoli.

Charming and Quirky Stay Near Herculaneum

    rating07 Oct 2024

What Stood Out:The location of Miglio d’Oro Park Hotel is hard to beat! Nestled in Ercolano, just outside Naples, it’s perfectly situated for exploring the nearby archaeological site of Herculaneum. Our journey from Naples was an adventure, but after arriving at the Ercolano Scavi train station, it was a simple 15-minute walk to the hotel. The hotel itself is quite charming—think of a grand, stately mansion that has aged gracefully but could use a little TLC. It reminded us of the quirky charm of Fawlty Towers, with spacious rooms, high ceilings, and a patio that offered beautiful ocean views (though we had to borrow chairs from inside as there was no outdoor furniture). The grounds were fascinating, with ruins, fountains and a pond, but parts of it were slightly overgrown, adding to the sense of a place with character. What I Wish I Knew Ahead of Time:There are a few things that would have been helpful to know in advance. First, there was no way to take a proper shower in the room—just a massive bathtub without a curtain. Another important tip is about transportation—while we took the train to Ercolano Scavi, I later discovered that the Portici-Ercolano station offers more frequent and cheaper trains between Naples, Ercolano, and even Pompeii. However, it’s a bit further from the hotel (about a 25-minute walk or a 5-minute cab ride). Also, the hotel lists laundry facilities, but this just means they collect laundry Monday to Friday by 8 AM, which wasn’t useful for our weekend stay. Another thing to note is that while the pool was lovely, it wasn’t perfectly maintained, so be cautious when stepping out as the tiles were a bit slippery. The same goes for the grounds—while beautiful, they’re a little overgrown, so watch your step.Overall Recommendation:Despite some quirks, I would definitely recommend Miglio d’Oro Park Hotel and would happily stay again. The location is excellent for exploring the area, especially if you’re visiting Herculaneum or Pompeii, and the staff was very helpful, particularly with arranging cabs. The hotel has a unique charm and would be an amazing venue for events, though it could use a little upkeep. For travelers who appreciate character and don’t mind a few eccentricities, it’s a wonderful and memorable stay. Just be prepared to adapt, and you’ll have a great time!

    A Quirky Faded Beauty.

    rating04 Oct 2024

Firstly, having read other reviews, I feel the need to praise the staff here who have been informative, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel itself is a stunner, but as others have said slightly tired in places. A coat of paint would do wonders, but this could apply to a lot of Naples to be fair! Our room was basic but large with a 20ft high ceiling and chandelier, plus a small balcony with a sea view. The room was clean and serviced daily. Breakfast was continental style and adequate. Pool was out of action (we stayed in October, not sure if that was the reason) which was a bit disappointing. We didn't eat evening meals at the hotel but there are plenty of options nearby.Location wise, Ercolano Scavi train station is your friend. Its 15min walk away up a moderate hill. Trains are regular and cheap, easy to get to Naples, Pompeii or Sorrento. Ercolano is a loud and gritty area, not overly geared to tourists but that suited us just fine. There is a small beach about half hour walk away too.Overall we had a great time. If you stay here just bear in mind the low cost and don't mind a few rough edges.

The hotell needs a big makeover. we were met with "No Show" because og something wrong with there system and then they ignored us even with confirmation emails and documentation we had.we were left waiting for hours until we contacted "hotels.com" they sorted it out. Good serviceBad wifi, bad breakfast, bad shower, but they fixed this. And the last few days we had no hot water.

    3 out of 5

We stayed at the hotel in October, and it was still nice and warm. The hotel itself is a nice building and big but bit of a run down gardens. The pool was filled up but dirty and I don't think people were using it. We were given a room that was street facing. It got very hot at night and with a constant barking of a dog in an opposite garden it was very difficult to get some sleep. I tried the AC, the additional AC unit that was there but none was had any effect,so we had to keep the window open. Also the pillow gave me a very back neck ache. The next day I asked to change the room and the receptionist very happily helped us. The room she gave us (I asked for garden facing view) was much nicer and quieter! The staff overall was nice. The only thing that could definitely be improved was the breakfast. There was no hot water to make tea and the food looked a bit tired. The hotel is located in quite a poor area of Ercolano with lots of dog poo everywhere. But the local people are friendly -when you manage to get the communication going:) The train station isn't far and you can get to Naples, Pompei quite easily ( once you figure out their system- nobody tells you to change stops for example! I even had one local apologise to me on behalf of the italian train system;) It was a very nice trip overal with minor hiccups.
