  Very basic hotel felt like a 3-star, with an uncomfortable night sleep

  In my opinion, this is a 3‑star property; however, since the hotel rates itself as a 4‑star, my review reflects that expectation.Room, although spacious, was sparse in terms of décor and amenities. There was a desk and chair, a bar fridge, a TV, and a kettle with tea, but no instant coffee or coffee capsules. The mattress was thin and sagged toward the middle, making for a very uncomfortable sleep. Walls and windows felt paper‑thin—every street noise, conversation from nearby rooms, and even sounds from the reception area carried straight into our room. The overall décor felt below 4‑star standards: damaged wallpaper, very dated furnishings, and a bathroom with a flimsy shower that drained so slowly that by the end of a shower there were several centimeters of water pooled in the basin.The breakfast was a little disappointing. There were many sweet options (cakes, tarts, loaves), some croissants, toast, yogurt, and a small selection of fruit, vegetables, meats, and cheeses. Hot items were available only upon request, but it was difficult to get the attention of the staff member working, so we eventually gave up. The coffee machine broke down at the start of breakfast, and the single staff member first tried to troubleshoot it, then called someone else for help. In the meantime, guests kept attempting to use it because no one communicated that it was out of service. Most tables finished breakfast without coffee. Only just before we were leaving did the staff offer someone an espresso from another machine in a different room—something we didn’t realize was an option until we overheard it and asked for one ourselves. Also worth noting: there is a toilet directly beside the food table, which was a bit off‑putting.The hotel doesn’t seem to offer many amenities: no restaurant, fitness area, or pool, and the reception desk is not staffed 24 hours (closed from midnight to 7:30 a.m.). Guests returning after midnight must enter a code to access the building, and anyone checking out before 7:30 a.m. must arrange in advance to pay the city tax, which I was told at check-in was cash‑only (I paid by card at checkout). The person “working” when we arrived couldn’t locate our booking and spent about 10 minutes flipping through printed reservation sheets before calling someone else. When the second person arrived, she found our reservation immediately. It didn’t seem like the first person actually worked there, though I can’t say for certain. There is a small library area on the first floor, though it isn’t very inviting and doesn’t offer space to work, and a bar area next to the breakfast room on the fourth floor that doesn’t appear to be used at all.Honestly, it felt like we were staying in a 3‑star property but paying a 4‑star price.

  I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Palazzo San Michele! The room was very big, clean, and well ventilated, with a super comfortable bed and great cushions. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The location is excellent — a good neighborhood with everything you need nearby, and just a 10-minute walk from the central station. Highly recommended!

  Stayed here at the end of our trip to the amalfi coast. This was the worst of the 5 hotels we stayed in. Room was extremely small. Appeared clean but smelled awful (like a dead rodent). Bedding wasn’t comfortable. Not all of the outlets in the room worked. The bathroom sink was stopped up and wouldn’t drain. Thin walls - you could hear your neighbors. The flooring in the loft felt very unsteady and we worried that some of the floorboards wouldn’t hold up. The area did not appear safe or clean but I did feel secure with their locks. No one is there to manage the desk at night. But the Front desk staff was very nice when we checked in and did have our taxi requested early for our flight out.

  The hotel def catfishes with the pictures online. Not as it appears in pictures in reality. The rooms are very small. The bed was sunken in, and hard to sleep on. Thankfully I only had a one night stay. I would describe this place as a motel at best. I would not stay here again.

  Palazzo San Michele - a sad joke of a 4-star hotel

  Spent 3 miserable nights 10/16 to 10/19, 2024. By far the worst hotel I've seen in a very long run in Italy and anywhere else. I travel a lot to many different countries. It's more like a poor-quality guest house, not a 4-star hotel. No lobby, no amenities, poor quality basic breakfast. Location was convenient to the train station, but the building itself was drab, the surrounding area dirty and the narrow lane our room window faced was filthy. It's possible we got the worst room in the house, drab, dark, not well maintained even though we reserved it 2 months in advance and were staying there for 3 nights. This room was not suitable for anything other than utility or storage in any respectable hotel. Staff was not responsive to our concerns.
