    Highly recommend

    rating22 May 2026

We stayed for three nights while attending a wedding outside of Naples. The location is amazing, incredible views. The room was comfortable and the staff were very good. We attended a private welcome reception the day before the wedding that was held for the wedding guests on the hotel's roof deck, which was a stunning location. Staff were highly attentive at the reception, during breakfasts and throughout our stay. One criticism was the noise level from our room on the Saturday night. We were just a floor above the bar/restaurant, near the elevator, and the muzak was playing loudly until at least 2 a.m., which was not ideal. Breakfast buffet could use a bit of improvement on the hot dishes and drip coffee. Overall very good stay.

    Terrible restaurant

    rating07 May 2026

Beautiful and interesting building but the restaurant is a very real problem at this hotel. On our first day, we ordered lunch and were kept waiting for 45 minutes for a very small portion of pasta which was nothing much to write home about despite the long wait and high price. We were not greeted by the staff, and had to ask for bread which was dry. Service at breakfast is even worse. The hotel hasn’t learned from previous complaints. Weak and cold instant coffee is on offer from an urn. It may seem trivial but this did spoil our time at the hotel. I did complain a couple of times. The management comes across as being far too parsimonious and in terms of the catering really should pull up its socks.Staff at reception, cleaners, porters all very helpful and kind. Spectacular view, unique ambience, peripheral location, basic room

    rating16 Apr 2026

We enjoyed a return visit to San Francesco al Monte (one adult and two youngsters for four nights) but less so than previously. The hillside location offers a spectacular view E across Naples to Vesuvius, and the immediate area is quiet and detached from the noisy and congested city - but it has no restaurants and is not within walking distance of most of Naples’ visitor attractions. ‘Downtown’ is best accessed through nearby funiculars or by taxi. The building is an atmospheric – and, understandably, somewhat ascetic - conversion of a 15th century monastery. Our ‘junior suite’ had one queen-sized double bed and a sofa bed, both in the same room – not what ‘suite’ normally means. The room and bathroom were adequately equipped but they were not a luxury experience – apart from the view, a base rather than a destination. The shower over bath was slippery and awkward to access, with no safety mat.The rooftop pool, garden and outdoor restaurant are seasonal and were not yet open. Breakfast was an adequate if unexciting buffet. The dinner menu and the food were good but not child-friendly.Wi-Fi was simple to use. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and professional.Overall 4/5. Recommended to those seeking a unique and comfortable experience rather than a luxury one.Tip – if travelling by train from/to Rome, use the Centrale station rather than the new and remote Afragola. Marianna Sarno, Direttore generale at Art Hotel San Francesco Al Monte, responded to this review Dear globaltraveller200,Thank you for sharing your experience at San Francesco al Monte and for choosing to visit us again. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the breathtaking view of the city and the charming atmosphere of our historic convent. We understand that our panoramic location may seem a bit far from the city center, but we hope that the tranquility of our hotel and the convenience of the funiculars made up for this distance. We’re sorry that the layout of the junior suite didn’t fully meet your expectations regarding space. We appreciate your feedback and assure you that we’ll work to improve accessibility in the bathroom. Your safety and comfort are essential to us. But please always keep in mind that a junior suite is not a suite: setting is different! We’re glad to hear that our staff was friendly and that you found the Wi-Fi easy to use. We will take your suggestions regarding breakfast and the children’s menu into consideration to enhance our offerings in the future. We hope you will return to visit us during a season when you can enjoy our outdoor spaces, including the garden and the pool. We will be happy to welcome you again to offer you a stay that reflects even more the uniqueness of our property and the city of Naples.Cordiali salutiLa Direzione

    Good hotel to explore Naples

    rating11 Apr 2026

Good location to explore Naples (and Capri, Pompeji and Amalfi). Rooms very clean. Very friendly staff. A little bit noisy because of the street in front. Biggest draw back is the breakfast which was by far the weakest we had anywhere in Italy Marianna Sarno, Direttore generale at Art Hotel San Francesco Al Monte, responded to this review Dear globaltraveller9999,Thank you very much for sharing your experience at the Art Hotel San Francesco al Monte. We are delighted to hear that our location allowed you to easily explore Naples and enchanting places such as Capri, Pompeii, and the Amalfi Coast. It is gratifying to know that the cleanliness of our rooms and the friendliness of our staff helped make your stay enjoyable. We are sorry that our breakfast did not meet your expectations. We are committed to offering a variety of options, including fresh pastries, seasonal fruit, and gluten-free products, to ensure a satisfying experience for all our guests. Your feedback is invaluable and motivates us to constantly improve.Regarding the noise, we realize that the liveliness of our central location may be noticeable. However, we hope that the panoramic view enhanced your stay.We would be delighted to welcome you back to offer you an experience even more in line with your expectations, immersing you in the unique charm of our city.Cordiali salutiLa Direzione

The Good, The great and The Gorgeous

    rating29 Mar 2026

Honestly, what can I say? This place is a literal wonder of Naples. The views are so beautiful they’ll make you forget you just walked up 400 hills to get here. The rooms are stunning, and the staff? Absolute legends. Everyone had a smile on their face—which, in hindsight, might have been because of what they saw through my bathroom window. They were incredibly accommodating, and the restaurant food was so top-notch I’m still dreaming about the desserts especially The Macarons. The "Snag" (Or: The Unintentional Talent Show)There was only one tiny, naked—I mean, minor—issue. Our bathroom lacked the traditional amenities known as "blinds" or "shutters."Now, look:If you’re an exhibitionist: Like myself and my partner, you’ll have a five-star stay! 10/10, would recommend for anyone looking to provide the locals with some free dinner theater. If you’re shy: If you aren’t keen on showing the neighborhood your "peek-a-boo" areas while you floss, this might not be the room for you.Pro Tip: If you see a crowd gathering in the street below with binoculars, they aren't looking at the sunset. They're looking at your skincare routine.Loved the stay, loved the service, and apparently, the city of Naples now loves my left hip. 10/10—will bring a cape next time. Marianna Sarno, Direttore generale at Art Hotel San Francesco Al Monte, responded to this review Dear Mereille R.,Thank you so much for sharing this brilliant and charming account of your stay at the Art Hotel San Francesco al Monte! We are delighted to hear that our spectacular views and the warm welcome from our staff made your stay special and memorable.Your spirit and lively description of your experiences truly made us smile, and we are, of course, sorry that we unwittingly provided a “talent show” from the bathroom window! Your feedback has been invaluable, and it will prompt us to take steps to ensure greater privacy in the future. We’re thrilled that dinner at our restaurant lived up to your expectations, especially the macarons that so delighted your palate.Thank you for your kind words and your extraordinary sense of humor. We look forward to welcoming you back, hoping to give you another unforgettable experience—and we’ll certainly take your “pro tip” to heart!Cordiali salutiLa Direzione
