    Worst experience ever

    rating23 Aug 2025

We have had the most distressing experience ever at this hotel. We did a usual check-in and got the electronic key card. We went to our floor and placed the key card onto the glass card reader plate. Our door would not unlock. We tried placing the card at different angles including the top and side. However, when we lightly tapped to the right side the glass plate cracked and dropped to the floor and shattered. We did not apply any unusual pressure to warrant this. We contacted the lady on reception who came and assisted. She could not open the door either and even tried a normal door key but to no avail. After about 20 mins she produced another card key that worked. However, after dinner that night, we again couldn’t get into our room and she had to assist by calling someone to fix it. She then proceeded to tell me that we will be charged €130 for the damage to the glass plate. I disputed this, as we did not do anything to deliberately damage the glass. I think the glass plate was already compromised with a hairline fracture and we were the unlucky ones to come along next and tap it. She said her boss said we have to pay. I asked to speak to him, but was told he was unavailable and to try in the morning. On checkout the next morning we were presented with the bill for €130. I explained again that this damage was not our fault and could I speak to her boss. She said he was not available and if we didn’t pay she would call the police. We are a middle aged couple traveling and have never had this experience before. We are respectful wherever we stay. We were treated like criminals for something that was not our fault and the boss of the hotel did not even have the decency to chat to us about it and instead hid behind his staff. I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone. This experience has ruined our stay in Castelsardo, cost us an extra €130 and caused a lot of stress.

    Okay but not 4 starts

Okay but could be better. Beds and cleaning was very good. Breakfast was bad and could be improvement with some fresh fruit, cold milk, warm eggs etc. and they should set up so the roof terrace could be used. The pool is not located on sight. Not all reception staff spoke English at an acceptable level.

    Short break

    rating29 Aug 2019

My husband & I, stayed here for two nights and found this hotel to be superb. We had a sea view and large balcony. The double room was large, excellent modern bathroom, very clean. Very good breakfast, as much as you like. Parking available under the hotel, small spaces and you have to book. Friendly helpful receptionists. Only wish there was a bar and coffee making facilities, then it would be perfect.

    Great location and helpful staff

    rating01 Aug 2018

Really nice hotel, across the road from the beach. I'd highly recommend asking for a sea view as the sun sets over the sea and it is beautiful. We had a triple room which was very spacious (rare for Italy) and quiet considering it is on a main road. Comfy beds and a nice shower.Breakfast is the only let down really, it is very limited to bread rolls, cheese, ham etc. usual continental breakfast. views of the castle and the sea from the breakfast balcony as lovely.Be warned if you are hiring a car and parking it in the carpark. It is very small with a very tight bend to get in (we hired a Clio so not a big car) obviously with a hire car you are more careful and it took us about 15 minutes each morning to get the car out the carpark it what felt like a 27 point turn! There is on-street parking (white bays are free, blue bays are charged during certain hours) but it's in a busy area so on-street parking is not always possible. Pool and spa are in the sister hotel a few doors down the street. nice pool with massage jets on an in-pool sunbed and a little waterfall. One particular receptionist was amazing and deserves a special mention.. Big Thanks to Natalia for help us so much with calls to book day trips, arranging late check in and outs and calling the tourist doctor when I had a bad reaction to an insect bite. It's people like her that make traveling easier, much appreciated.Hotel is very responsive to emails if you have any requirements or questions before you go.

    Loved this place ❤️

    rating20 Jul 2017

Great location just 1km from the castle and old town.It is opposite the little sandy beach and just 500m from the marina. There are a choice of good restaurants close to this location. The hotel is affiliated with The Riviera hotel 60m away and this has a great pool and spa facilities for Janus clients use.All the staff I met were lovely, from the reception lady (a student from Belarus) through to the cleaners and breakfast staff. We elected to pay a little extra and had a sea facing room (with balcony- magnificent sunsets looking towards Corsica) which made up for the clean and tidy yet relatively basic room. The aircon worked well, as did the wifi and the bed was very comfortable (firm).Breakfast is served from 8-10am on the fourth floor and the location commands one of the best views of the bay, marina and castle that you could imagine. The breakfast is good, with usual fare (bread, meat, cheeses, fruit, cereal, yogurts, juices, coffee, tea, hard boiled eggs and only seemed to be lacking a cooked option - although not a problem for us.In summary a magical location to spend our last 3 nights / 4 days at after a comprehensive tour of this great island. Hotel Janus - we will be back!
