    What honesty

    rating25 May 2026

I very much enjoyed my recent stay at the Hotel Donatello. My room was comfortable and clean and I had super view of the Basilica. On my return journey to the airport I realised did not have my purse that contained English £ (but fortunately no credit cards or Euros.) I resigned myself to the loss and assumed I had been the victim of pick pockets.I was agreeably surprised when a few days after my return, the Donatello emailed to say they had found my purse stuck behind the safe in the room I had occupied. They put me in touch with a courier and my purse has now arrived with its contents undisturbed.Thank you Donatello. What nice people you are. Quite restores my faith in humanity

We Felt Short Changed And Got Bitten To Death By Mosquitoes - BEWARE!

    rating06 Nov 2025

Hotel Donatello only gets two stars from us and it would have been one had it not been for the location, the welcome from reception and the very pleasant staff in the bar below. The positives: You are literally a stone's throw from the basilica of St Anthony, which is one of the finest I have ever seen and merited two visits in the five days we were in and around Padua. The warm welcome at reception when we first arrived was a highlight in so much as the hotel peaked early and immediately fell away alarmingly.A minor redemption was to be found in the friendly bar staff manning the facility on the ground floor who were lovely without exception. The negatives: the hotel singularly failed to cover itself in glory from the moment we left reception.Directly by the lift a panel was hanging wide open from the ceiling with all manner of wiring clearly visible, and it stayed like that for the duration of our stay; hardly inspiring. Our room was on the top floor with views directly across to the Basilica which was exactly as described in our booking.Unfortunately (for us) the room temperature was 24 degrees and the thermostat for the aircon refused to turn down, so, in late October/early November it was still far too hot to sleep. The curtains were tied back with ornamental drapes and did not close leaving just a tobacco coloured liner between us and the outside world. You kind of felt very exposed after dark with any lights on.Speaking of lights, the bedside and floor lamps worked at times and didn't at others, maybe explaining the visible wiring described above. And the Coup De Grace for the room......With it being far too hot to sleep we opened the windows to get some fresh air in and hopefully cool it down a bit. This we achieved but with it came an army of super aggressive mosquitoes!Any exposed skin whilst you were sleeping was mercilessly attacked, including your face, shoulders, hands and wrists. On the first morning we had 40+ bites between us and they were PAINFUL.Having learned our lesson we didnt open the windows again and killed at least half a dozen before we went to bed each night, but they were lurking everywhere.Being sensitised to the high pitched buzzing we were awake every hour to locate and kill each new 'invader' and picked up even more bites.Horrible experience. We referred to the beasts as '633 Squadron' which will resonate with those of you reading this who are of our demographic! And as for breakfast, I have never had to ask for a plate to eat off or a mug to put my coffee in at a hotel EVER in my life (I have now).On the first morning the overcooked bacon was nearly black, rock hard and inedible, not far removed from the pigs ears we occasionally give our DOG! It did improve, but not much; at least the scrambled eggs were real and not made from powder. Speaking of scrambles, there must have been numerous scrambles for boiled eggs as there was either one or none at all on a couple of mornings as well, and, unlike another reviewer, we were early to breakfast every day.The croissants were nice though!Whoever cleaned our room obviously didnt check on consumables as we even had to ring reception to ask for loo roll which was another first and a new low for this property. Please don't get me wrong, I don't like to leave negative reviews or be gratuitously scathing but you guys deserve to be pre-warned and come prepared with your eyes well and truly open.

Would not chose it for a second time...

    rating03 Nov 2025

Positive Aspects: The location of the hotel is undoubtedly its strongest point. Situated conveniently for visiting key attractions, it is just a stone's throw away from the Basilica of the Holy Sant'Antonio and the beautiful Prato della Valle. The main city center is also within walking distance, making it ideal for sightseeing. Upon arrival, the atmosphere at the entrance was pleasant, and the welcoming staff added a nice touch to our experience.Negative Aspects: Unfortunately, my overall experience was marred by several issues that would deter me from choosing this hotel again. We booked a "Family Suite" with two separate bedrooms, which was a plus for traveling with a teenage daughter. However, the furniture felt cheap and reminiscent of IKEA, lacking the comfort and quality one would expect. The second bedroom was cramped, with a bulky closet that took up too much space. The bathroom left much to be desired. The tiles appeared unclean, with mold around the shower cabin and yellowing grout between the tiles. It seemed like the hotel had made minimal renovations, focusing only on superficial updates like new doors and inexpensive furniture. While the rooms themselves were generally clean, these maintenance issues were disappointing. We paid around 200 Euros for our stay, which felt only "okayish" given the overall quality. Our room was located in a separate building, requiring us to navigate side corridors. This became a nuisance, especially in the early morning when we were disturbed by loud deliveries and contractors working nearby.Breakfast was another major letdown. We arrived at 9:30 AM, just half an hour before it was supposed to end, only to find most of the food already gone. The selection was dismal, with only a few slices of toast, remnants of scrambled eggs, and some leftover bacon. The staff seemed indifferent to our concerns, stating that breakfast was "almost over." After voicing our disappointment, we were begrudgingly provided with a few slices of baguette from a nearby pizzeria, which hardly made up for the lackluster breakfast experience. Conclusion: In summary, while the hotel's location and initial welcoming atmosphere were commendable, the numerous shortcomings in room quality, maintenance, and breakfast service overshadowed these positives. I would not choose to stay here again.

    Old glory awful hotel 1*

    rating01 Nov 2025

Very unpleasant esperience, the only advantage is central location...No elevator going to upper attic rooms, mold in the bathroom, sigarette bots on the window outside (that actually makes me think that fire system isn't working at all)...touristic information in the welcome book in the room is old and the info isn't real as they said (for example It was written that a city tax is 2 Euros but at the reception wanted 5 telling that Is an old info, oh, but it's not my duty to print and expose an updated information)...really a shame, probably old glory hotel that isn't legitime anymore. Really one only star for 100euros. Oh, I forgot, breakfast is awful too, canned fruit, frozen croissant, poisonous juice

    A Warm genuine welcome

    rating31 Oct 2024

A warm genuine welcome awaits at the reception desk of this Hotel. Really friendly staff and had some really good banter with them. Made us feel very much at home. The room was very clean and comfortable overall with plenty of storage space. The only slight criticisms would be that there was only one spare pillow and the Aircon was somewhat noisy. The bathroom could have done with a proper shower installed. Breakfast was excellent. Great selection of Croissants and the cakes... absolutely delicious. Meats, cheese and eggs available as well. Friendly, attentive staff as well. Overall I would recommend this hotel for a stay in the lovely city of Padova.
