    Good place but can do better

    Nice location not far from Taranto. The hotel has been totally redone. Restaurant is good and restaurant staff is good. But the overall impression is fairly anonymous. And a major negative: Service at the reception was appalling. It felt like being treated by an unwelcoming civil servant. Not a top rated hotel.

    The rooms are well appointed. Really enjoyed the welcoming letter and treats. The staff are courteous, helpful an excellent resource. The breakfast was a special treat from the local pomegranate to the delicious breads and pastries. The pool area is very relaxing.     Amazing and relaxing

    We spent two nights at the hotel while attending a wedding at a different venue. The property is beautiful. Our room was also great, high-ceilinged, elegant and comfortable. The food at breakfast/restaurant was exceptional, a lot of the ingredients coming from their garden. I didn't try the spa, but my partner praised it highly. Finally, the staff were amazing, so helpful and accomodating. It is a bit out of our way, but I hope I get the chance to visit again. Otherwise, I would love to be able to visit yearly for a couple of relaxing days.     Relais Histo, set in a beautifully restored 14th-century monastery near Taranto, offers a unique ambiance steeped in history and character. Surrounded by olive trees and overlooking the Ionian Sea, the resort’s historic architecture and serene setting create a picturesque escape that feels like stepping back in time.However, while the heritage building exudes charm and elegance, parts of the resort are in need of renovation, and the facilities don’t quite live up to the promise of a luxury stay. The grandeur of the surroundings is often let down by inconsistent customer service, which can feel lacking, particularly for international guests. Non-Italian visitors might find the level of attention and care falls short, leaving a sense of missed expectations.Despite its potential, Relais Histo can sometimes miss the mark on the warm, personalized service that defines a top-tier resort experience.     We were there at the end of June 2023.We chose it from advices and comparing other (starred) resort in Puglia.This resort is a bit out of luxury circles, but it is very valuable.From site it seemed nice and from earlier contacts via our travel agency concierge appeared gentle and efficient, even if their response time was not so smart.We arranged to fly from Linate to Bari, as railway if out of question, too much time and travel ca be a nightmare.Place is an ancient convent with old sone walls, all sorrunded by fields and olive plants.Rooms as been revamped recently and are very spacious, even it some details are not so cared: for example (bad to say... but it's very important anyway...) the toilet was broken: waitrerss did not see it preparing the room, we signalled to concierge and they fixed quicky.TV was not functiioning as antennas were out of service: concierge did all its best to fix, with no success... but t least we can see streaming. ;(To sum, up we did appreciate their effort and passion for their resort.To return to resort, the garden is very nice and cared, the pool si nice and cared, with much space between seats.The gem is the SPA: spacious, with many different rooms and massages solution.We di appreciate in particular the people working there: they are all from nearby and the loved their county: usually other famous SPAs (where we were) employ foreign young people that of course cannot communicate the passion for the place as they do not live there.The did eat at local restaurant: gentle people and nice rural product, but the level is not comparable to a starred restaurant: it's a pity for a such nice place.
