    Terrific Location

    rating04 Nov 2025

Comfortable room, nice bathroom though shower was sluggish, staff pleasant and helpful. Wonderful location within walking distance to the main station, lots of good restaurants in the area. The booking site we used claimed the hotel provided breakfast and room service, it doesn't. Not a problem as we found a great breakfast place a few steps along the road.Pros and cons, but would be happy to stay there again. Dario Restagno, Proprietario at Al Viminale Hill Inn & Hotel, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for your balanced and thoughtful review. We’re very pleased to hear that you appreciated our excellent location, the comfort of the room, and the friendliness of our staff. It’s also great to know you enjoyed the many restaurants in the area.Regarding breakfast and room service, we would like to clarify that on all our official channels it is clearly stated that breakfast is served at our partner bistro next door and that we do not offer room service. Unfortunately, sometimes third-party booking platforms may display incorrect or unclear information, which is beyond our control. We’re also sorry to hear that the shower flow was not perfect — had this been reported during your stay, we would have been happy to check and resolve it immediately.Thank you again for your feedback, and we’re glad to know you would stay with us again. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to Rome!Warm regards,Al Viminale Hill Inn & Hotel Team

    Disappointing

    rating17 Oct 2025

We recently stayed three nights at this hotel, and overall, our experience was mixed.Pros:The hotel is in a great area with plenty of restaurants, a pharmacy, and a convenience store all within walking distance. The neighborhood felt safe and clean. The entrance—tucked behind a large set of doors requiring an access code—added a nice sense of privacy and security. The historic elevator was also a charming touch that gave the building some character. Complimentary tea and coffee were available in the hallway, which was a nice gesture. Whenever we requested taxi service during our stay, it was arranged quickly and efficiently.Cons:Unfortunately, several issues affected our stay. The biggest disappointment was the lack of hot water in the shower for all three nights. While the sinks had hot water, the shower never did. We reported the problem after the first night, but it was never resolved. There didn’t seem to be an easy way to reach anyone after hours to follow up about the issue, and as the days went on, it became clear that no one intended to address it. Not being able to take a proper shower for the entire stay was frustrating and disappointing. The refrigerator in our room also didn’t work, and while the room itself was clean, it lacked some basic amenities—there was no clock or phone, and the pillows were very flat, which made sleeping uncomfortable.Additionally, at check-in, after swiping our credit card to secure the room, we were asked to leave a tip for the staff. I found this to be somewhat tacky, as we hadn’t yet experienced any service. Reluctantly, I added a tip because I was concerned that declining might impact our stay.On our last day, things became stressful when our scheduled taxi never arrived due to a driver strike. While we understand that the strike was outside the hotel’s control, no one from the staff informed us about it. We were left scrambling to find transportation to the airport. Even after asking for help, no one offered advice or alternatives. In the end, we went to a nearby Marriott, and their staff kindly arranged a taxi for us within eight minutes—otherwise, we likely would have missed our flight.Overall:The hotel has great potential thanks to its location, charm, and cleanliness. However, the lack of hot water, broken refrigerator, missing amenities, awkward tipping request at check-in, and poor communication from staff—both during our stay and in a time of need—made the experience less enjoyable than it could have been. With improvements in maintenance, professionalism, and guest communication, this could be a much better place to stay. Dario Restagno, Proprietario at Al Viminale Hill Inn & Hotel, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We appreciate your positive comments regarding our location, cleanliness, and the historic charm of the building, including our antique elevator. However, we find it necessary to clarify some points that do not accurately reflect what occurred during your stay.Hot water:After your report, we intervened immediately to check the situation. From that moment on, we did not receive any further communication from you, therefore we understood that the issue had been resolved.Refrigerator and amenities:Any malfunction, if reported during the stay, would have been promptly resolved. It is difficult for us to act on issues that are only mentioned after departure.Staff availability:We provide assistance even outside reception hours via phone and WhatsApp. The service is active and regularly used by many guests.Tipping request:We categorically deny that any tip was requested at check-in. This is not part of our policy, and such a statement is completely unfounded.Taxi strike:The taxi strike was a city-wide event completely beyond our control. Nevertheless, when informed, we always assist our guests in finding alternative solutions. In sudden situations, however, options may be limited. We are always open to constructive feedback, but it is important that reviews accurately reflect the facts. Our goal remains to provide a professional, transparent, and attentive service to all our guests.Kind regards,Al Viminale Hill Inn & Hotel Team

A hotel with antiquated charm in a great location in Rome

    rating20 Sept 2025

This hotel is conveniently located near some of Rome’s famous landmarks with lots of eateries close by. The rooms are on the smaller side, but it has an antiquated charm that makes the stay memorable. Dario Restagno, Proprietario at Al Viminale Hill Inn & Hotel, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for your kind review! We’re delighted to hear that you appreciated our central location, close to many of Rome’s main attractions and surrounded by great dining options. It’s also a pleasure to know that you enjoyed the historic charm of our property — it’s something we truly value and that makes our hotel unique.Regarding the room size, as you mentioned, they are more compact, which is typical for buildings in the historic center of Rome, but we’re glad this did not take away from your overall experience. We hope to welcome you back again soon for another memorable stay in Rome!Warm regards,Al Viminale Hill Inn & Hotel Team

Perfect for a first time visitor to Rome

    rating11 Feb 2025

Fantastic location for first time visitors to Rome . Only 5 minutes from both the train and bus stations as well as a 20 minute walk to the vast majority of Rome's tourist attractions. The beds were lovely, and staff friendly. We had a lovely view of the Opera House from our window. Great location, clean and comfy. Just a couple of downsides

    rating18 Nov 2024

Room was absolutely immaculate. So clean on arrival. Plenty of storage for clothes etc. location was great, very central for everything and felt safe walking about at night etc. lovely view over the opera house and felt good value for money. our only niggles were, there was no hot water for a shower at night. There was a smell of drains in the room which was worse when you used the sink or shower. No kettle in room. I get there was a communal kitchen but, having a kettle in room is appreciated. Dario Restagno, Proprietario at Al Viminale Hill Inn & Hotel, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're delighted to hear that you found the room immaculate, the location central and safe, and the view over the Opera House lovely. It's always wonderful to know that our guests feel they received good value for their stay. We're sorry to hear about the issues you experienced with the hot water and the smell in the room. These are certainly not the standards we strive for, and we will investigate these matters immediately to ensure they are addressed. As for the kettle, we understand how convenient it can be to have one directly in the room. While we provide a communal kitchen for tea and coffee, we'll take your suggestion into consideration for future improvements.Thank you again for your valuable comments, and we hope to welcome you back in the future for an even better experience.Best regards,
