    Hotel Contilia Rome

    rating15 May 2026

Lovely clean, recently refurbished hotel. Very helpful and polite staff.Near a lot of tourist attractions and public transport. Restaurants across the road and 2 doors down, worth a visit. Taxi prices vary, as much as €20 on a trip to the airport, so worth asking before you get in the taxi.

    No complaints

    rating13 May 2026

Have just stayed for three nights and overall it was a positive experience. The rooms were basic but clean. My only criticism is that the beds are a bit firm! We had a balcony which gave us lovely fresh air on such warm days! Our bathroom had plumbing issues which were addressed promptly. Clearly this hotel is dated but it still met all our expectations. It was close the main station which allowed us to use the metro conveniently, and not too far from the Colosseum. We thought breakfast was great! A pretty comprehensive choice on offer, and the staff continuously replenished as food got low or china was running out. The staff did a fantastic job! Overall we had a positive stay and would stay again.

Worst Hotel Experience – Do NOT Stay Here

    rating02 Jan 2026

My family and I had a very poor experience at Hotel Contilia, and I strongly advise others to avoid this hotel at all costs. Aside from its convenient location (about a 5-minute walk from the train station), there was nothing positive about our stay. The reception staff were extremely rude, especially the lady receptionists. Out of all of them, only ONE person (male) was decent — the rest were arrogant, dismissive, and disrespectful. We booked a room with 2 double beds, but were given 2 single beds and 1 double bed. When we politely pointed this out and showed our booking confirmation, the female receptionist was extremely arrogant and flat-out denied to help. She insisted this was the “standard room,” blamed the booking system, and made it clear she could not fix the problem. When we asked to upgrade (to what we had already paid for), we were told to pay an additional €220 per night. €220 per night for this shabby, dirty, run-down hotel — for THEIR mistake. Completely outrageous. Note this: we were definitely ok if the room does not turn out the way we wanted since such cases/issue/errors are normal. However, it was the receptionist poor and rude attitude which sparks our unhappiness. In addition, there was no heater in the room. We stayed at the end of December and the room was freezing. My entire family could barely sleep. We feedback the following day and were told a technician would come but nothing changed. Reception did not even answer the phone when we called several times (honestly not so sure if they are purposely avoiding it or I dialed the wrong number). The floor was ice cold, making the situation even worse. Not only the heater in the room was broken, the shower water temperature fluctuated randomly from warm to extremely hot without any adjustment. This is dangerous and could easily scald someone. Bathing was stressful and unpleasant every single time.On top of that, the room lighting was extremely dim. Even with all the lights turned on, the room felt dark and depressing, making it difficult to see properly and adding to the overall sense that the hotel is poorly maintained and cutting corners.Last but not least, we received a phone call from reception at around 9:31 pm while we were asleep, telling us that we did not close the elevator door. When I explained that my family had returned to the room about two hours earlier, the staff insisted we were “last seen on CCTV” using the lift. If they had time to review CCTV footage just to assign blame, they could have simply "help us" closed the elevator door on behalf. Calling guests late at night over something so trivial is completely unreasonable and absurd.FINAL ADVISE: Avoid this hotel at all costs. There are many other hotels near the train station — I saw at least 10 within walking distance. Pick literally any of them instead. Even for one night, this place is not worth the money, the stress, or the terrible treatment.
