    Poor Service

    rating30 Mar 2026

We stayed here in March 2025 and had an amazing experience—friendly staff, early check-in at no extra cost, and a very comfortable room. Because of that, we were excited to return in March 2026.Unfortunately, our second stay was completely different. After a difficult travel day, my daughter was feeling quite ill when we arrived. I politely asked the front desk if early check-in was possible—even offering to pay a fee—but the gentleman at reception responded very rudely, raising his voice and insisting that check-in before 2pm was absolutely not possible. We tried to wait quietly in the lobby, but were told to leave and sit in the rooftop restaurant instead. Eventually, we found a hallway bench where my daughter could lie down out of the way while we waited. When we were finally checked in, we were given Room 207, which was extremely small and not suitable for our needs. I use a walker, and there was barely enough space for both of us and the walker—we had to store it in the bathroom and move it each time we needed to use the facilities. To make matters worse, I later observed the same staff member being rude to another guest during check-in.This was a very disappointing experience, especially compared to our previous stay. Because of this, we have already chosen a different hotel for our next visit to Rome. It’s unfortunate, as we truly loved this hotel the first time around.

    Central, basic, clean but loud.

    rating28 Mar 2026

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Hotel Fontana. We arrived before check-in time but were allowed to leave our bags which were taken up to our room which was a nice touch as the hotel lift is tiny and navigating the stairs with suitcases would have been tricky after travelling. Once we got into our room we found it quite small, basic and pretty dated. But it was clean and had a private bathroom which for us was the most important aspect of booking any hotel. The plug sockets were all an old style 3-prong type and we found it difficult to find a socket that would accept our 2 prong adapters. The TV was small and the remote had no back (batteries exposed). The flush on the toilet plainly didn’t work.. you had to press the button 4 or 5 times before any water came out. Our main issue was the noise, which wasn’t the fault of the hotel, Rome is an especially noisy city anywhere but at the fountain there is an almost constant noise which even having the window closed on a night was inescapable. Along with also being able to hear everything from next doors bathroom, I mean everything. The bed was clean, fresh towels daily and the bathroom was also cleaned every day. The breakfast room was top notch, the ladies working up there are fantastic. With this hotel I feel you are there for a reason, the fountain which is amazing and you don’t get a better location or view than one from this hotel. I’d recommend this hotel if you’re a first time traveller to Rome as the location is superb, but remember your ear plugs and bring good shoes.

    Avoid

    rating18 Mar 2026

We checked in late on March 3rd and were allocated room 104 which was not featured on the hotel website. It was tiny. The double bed just about fitted into the room and there was only access from one side. The bathroom was less than 2m by 2m and you had to be a contortionist to sit on the toilet without hitting the small sink in front. The shower was the size of a small tray with a curtain on two sides. Once you were wet, there was no escaping having the curtain sticking to you!The AC didn’t work and the window opened onto the garden patio meaning that we could not leave the window open. The electrics were dangerous – unsheathed wires - and would fail inspection in the UK. After looking at the fire plan, we realised that we had been given the smallest room on the floor; on the plus side the staff were able to change our room a day later. In the new room (101) the electrics were again substandard with a dangerous socket and the hairdryer cut out at certain angles when plugged into a different socket.Again, the AC didn’t work and being nearer to the Trevi Fountain, the noise outside was continual. Additionally, we couldn’t escape the noise from the 4am rubbish collection. Breakfast average
