Cheap, loud. Get a receipt for tourist tax!

    rating26 Sept 2025

We stayed in the Gialel B&B in mid-September 2025 for 4 nights. The room was clean, and relatively inexpensive for a city-centre location, and there was a small fridge in the room, but that's about where the good points ended. The walls are paper thin, so you hear everything happening in the next room. Romance is out the window when you can hear the person in the next room using the bathroom in intimate detail. Our room door was close to the reception desk and main door, so every time someone opened the main door or their room door you heard and felt the slam. The front desk is unmanned from roughly 8pm (they say 10pm, but I never saw anyone that late). If you have a problem after that, you're on your own. We had other guests ringing the entrance phone persistently for twenty minutes, which could be heard very loudly when we wanted to sleep. The room and main door locks use tiny rotating keypad locks. The keys are like those of a calculator watch, so good luck hitting the button accurately every time. There are no swipe cards or physical keys, only codes. I recommend taking a photo of the code slip they give you, and adding it to your favourites, since you'll want to refer to it.We paid the city tourist tax at the front desk when we first arrived. We paid in cash and I saw one of the ladies behind the desk place the cash in her purse. This is a small operation, so maybe this is normal, but I asked for a receipt. I strongly recommend you get a receipt too, and keep it safe. On the second night we had a knock on the room door from a member of staff who said we hadn't paid the city tax yet, and must do so. I presented her with the receipt, and after a phone call she conceded that we had paid. The next evening we came back to the room to find a printed note in the room that stated we hadn't paid, and that if we didn't pay immediately, the room lock code would be changed. I confronted the member of staff on the front desk with this note and the receipt once again. After yet another phone call, she said it was a mistake on their part and that everything was fine. At this point we were now worried about leaving our room, as the front desk staff would likely not be there when we returned to dinner and we could be locked out for someone else's mistake! Luckily, this was not the case. The room had no safe. I consider this to be a basic necessity, even in the cheapest of accommodation, and especially in a city renowned for pick-pockets. You don't want to be walking around with all your valuables on you in Rome, and the room access code was VERY easily guessed. I suspect all the rooms had a code based on the same number pattern, so anyone could enter your room...The bathroom had liquid hand soap available at the basin and in the shower, but no shampoo or body wash. It's not the end of the world, but remember to bring shampoo with you. There is a pharmacy below the B&B if you forget.I would suggest that if your budget can stretch a bit further, you consider alternative accomodation in the centre of Rome.

lovely place in a good area

After reading some of the reviews I was a little nervous but on arriving the staff were friendly and very helpful. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean. The room had an air conditioning unit which some reviews stated it didn't. It was a very pleasant stay and I would stay again.

Great location, nice stay, some very minor issues.

    rating30 May 2025

2 kids (11 and 13) wife and I, 5 day stay in Rome. We booked this bnb based on price however later checking the reviews we were nervous ahead of arrival. We had booked 4 person room and specified need for a private bathroom (which we were required to pay extra for).On arrival, staff were pleasant and helpful, though limited Englis, we did our best to speak italian but made for a confusing conversation at times. But overall very helpful. The room was slacious, or sparse, a bit of both in all honesty. There was a double bed and bunk beds, checked all mattresses which appeared clean and bug free.Under beds was dirty, dust and some small rubbish. Bathroom and shower was clean. Only one toilet roll provided. Towels only changed day before we left, so 4 days for the towels. I Do have to say the key codes for the room we were in so so obvious i could have guessed it in 3 tries, perhaps new, more difficult codes would be reassuring. The location however was superb. Much much better than the reviews would have you believe.

Very poor and frustrating experience. Not a recommended place

    rating19 May 2025

I have been travelling and staying in many places all around the world, in Europe, Africa and Asia - this is the first time ever I have regretted to book in that place. Quality and service at the reception were very poor, with a lady who did not treat me the way I was expecting because I asked some questions about the fees for the Roma town hall. She was very agressive and stated some infos which were not true to justify the fees. This place is overpriced, because for what I paid (which was a reasonable price) I would have expected a decent place. But it was not and my mistake not to check before booking the place. I am glad Rome is a beautiful city but this hotel made my stay less nice than expected.I would not recommend to stay there, with family or as a couple

    A great stay

We came to the big brown port, and opening it was a bit confusing, but got in after pressing the front door buttons. The staff and owners were really friendly and helpful. No problem there. It was all really safe, and the beds were clean. The bathroom could have had a little more cleaning done, but you get what you pay for. Over did the conditions and location match well with the price:)
