    Great experience

    rating22 May 2026

We were honestly quite nervous about arriving after reading some of the previous negative reviews, but our experience at Hotel 55 was amazing from start to finish. I wanted to leave this review so people are aware there are some guests that have a brilliant experience but unfortunately more people take the time to leave if they have had a negative experience over people who have had a good one. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. From the moment we checked in, reception staff were so helpful and explained that the lift in our building was temporarily out of service. They kindly offered us a room on a lower floor, but also reassured us that staff would carry our luggage upstairs for us so we didn’t have to struggle up three flights of stairs ourselves. We stayed in the separate building, which looked like it had been recently renovated, and it was lovely. Our room was spotless, cleaned every day, and we were always given fresh towels. We also felt very comfortable leaving our luggage during bag drop before check-in, and everything was kept completely safe. The location was also perfect — close to everything we needed and ideal for exploring Rome.Despite the lift issue, it honestly did not ruin our stay at all. The bed was extremely comfortable and we both had brilliant sleeps every night.Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would absolutely recommend this hotel. We would definitely stay again if the experience was the same as we had this time.

    overall mediocre stay

    rating19 May 2026

the hotel was in a good location, but if you are staying in the further away building it does add on a fair bit of walking so i wouldn’t not recommend choosing this hotel if you care strongly about the location. the lift in the building constantly did not work meaning carrying luggage down 4 flights of stairs. the bed was slightly hard but not awful . my main issue was the noise, the walls were paper thin you could hear a tap turn on in the room next to you and it was not a peaceful stay, as-well as this there was a sign saying not to touch the air conditioning (which i will attach below) which i found very irritating as it was too hot sometimes. over all a very mediocre stay would not recommend and but no major major issues.

Dissapointment in a room category, got a downgrade and no apologie

    rating26 Apr 2026

Location of the hotel was the only good thing as it was located in the center of the city and all the main tourist attraction were in walkable distance. Breakfast was modest but enough with warm and cold dishes. BUT, I hightly reccommend not to book higher category room because you end up in a standard room anyway. I booked a junior suite in an annex building for 900 EUR for three nights based on photos in booking.com but ended up in a 15 m2 standard room- no apologies, no refund yet, no compensation onsite. There was an annoying sound from the A/C( I think) for the last two nights all night long, which we did not managed to turn off because we needed to charge our phones and the keycard needed to be ina socket + windows let in all the sounds from outside. The room was really small for three. So, in conclusion, I think that there is a better options in the center for the same money...

don’t be scared by the low reviews

    rating09 Mar 2026

I saw the reviews here after booking and was honestly quite nervous - as expected due to the low reviews compared to their ratings. Now, I will admit there were a few noise issues we had experienced however overall we were quite happy with our stay! For context we were two friends (young) and stayed in the annex. There were three main issues I’d seen which I can say personally I felt were either manageable, or we didn’t experience at all. NOTE the annex building is NOT fully owned by the hotel, this I was confused about as it isn’t clearly said. The hotel owns floor FOUR, which you can access via lift or stairs, there are other ‘hotels’ in this building too and outside it is locked by a door code access.1. Noise. Now this unfortunately we did experience, however as two young travellers who had only booked for two nights we didn’t spend much time in our room, rather exploring the beautiful city. The noise is during the day in the annex, likely building work which is out of the hotels control. I will admit as well we were in one of the rooms near the breakfast area which was quite noisy during breakfast hours but dragged us up out of bed at least! We never came back early enough during the day for me to exactly say when building work ended, however it certainly wasn’t there during night or early mornings meaning we did get a good sleep overall.2. Annex building. I personally enjoyed staying in the building (as we weren't bothered by the noise due to exploring during the day) as it was right in the heart of the shopping area! I know this isn’t a plus for many, but it was only an extra two to five minute walk to the gorgeous historical sites like the trevi fountain, pantheon and colosseum! The spanish steps are located almost directly behind the annex itself, so no extra steps there. The location is still incredible! The lift does only fit two people in (recommended) and it is not a bog standard British or American lift, as expected as you are in Rome. I didn’t feel unsafe in the lift personally or have issues with it.3. Smell and dirt. I will admit I did go into the other area of the annex and can admit there were stains on the carpet, but as someone who travels frequently and stayed in two stars all the way to luxury five, it is something I’ve come across before and simply shrugged. Smell on the other hand, can’t really say I smelt anything bad at all while I was there, not in the stairwell or even on the hotel floor.I also want to note I had left a watch behind in my hotel room when checking out (we were in the city another few hours) and when I had returned to collect my bags they gave me my watch, I hadn’t even checked to realise I lost it. I know integrity is the bare minimum, but it was greatly appreciated that they had found it especially considering its value to me.Overall, it isn’t a bad hotel at all. I know we all have different standards, and maybe because I’m young I don’t notice these things as much and will happily brush them off, however I do feel this hotel is incredibly good value for money especially as with the majority of city breaks, you are not spending your whole life in that hotel room. Please do not be worried about the reviews, I’ve attached a picture of the view from our room, which as someone who has spent summers in small little greek villages and travelled across Italy I adored it. Authenticity always wins for me!I hope this review may reassure some people, as i know i was panicking reading these! Please remember every experience is different, no two days are the same. My experience may not reflect yours, just like many others here didn’t reflect mine! :)

    rating04 Nov 2025

I would like to say that we have a bad staying at your hotel. We need to walk 10 minutes with language because the booked us in on other building and I’m handicapped. The elevator was all the time stuck and we need to go 4 floors. The smell in the building and in the room is disaster.the room is very very smaller The tv is old and there is nothing shone in the room they are giving a what’s up number. They didnt refeel us coffee to the machine in the room no sugar no milk . We are very sad we paid a lot of money even a map of Rome they didn’t have. net . . Very sad
