Disappointing Stay with Concerns of Discrimination

    rating04 Apr 2026

We stayed at Hotel Principe Torlonia in Rome as a family of four. We checked in late at night, and the front desk staff was friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated after a long day of travel. However, when we entered the room, it was extremely cold, and there were no instructions provided on how to turn on the heater. When we called the front desk, the explanation was not clear, and we eventually had to figure it out ourselves by adjusting the thermostat. Some guidance at check-in would have been very helpful. The next night, after returning from sightseeing, there was a very strong and unpleasant odor in the room. We immediately informed the front desk. While they did something to address it, the smell made that night very uncomfortable. Fortunately, the odor was gone by the third night, but the experience significantly affected our stay. Our most disappointing experience was during breakfast. One of the breakfast staff members repeatedly watched us closely and corrected us on small things, such as how to close lids after taking food. This made us feel uncomfortable and singled out. At one point, one of us—who was fasting and not eating—picked up a single apple by hand while preparing to leave. The same staff member very rudely told us that nothing could be taken away, even though no one had asked. The apple was then taken and placed back in the basket without being cleaned, which also raised hygiene concerns. What made this experience more upsetting was that the same staff member was smiling, friendly, and engaging warmly with another family at the same time, while treating us in a noticeably colder and more scrutinizing manner. This difference in behavior made us feel discriminated against, whether intentionally or not.Overall, while the front desk staff was polite, the room issues and especially the breakfast experience left us with a very negative impression. Unfortunately, because of these experiences, we would not recommend staying at this hotel.

    Peace and Quiet abounds.

    rating06 Sept 2025

Nice location, very peaceful and quiet. Takes less than 10 minutes to meander to the nearest Metro station (Bologna). Friendly staff. Breakfast is ok but sort of same same every day. You can eat in the back garden area as well as inside. We were 2 floors up. Didn't pay a visit to the basement area, so haven't a clue what the rooms were like down there. No pool. Lift worked well. Room was fine. Bed was very comfy and certainly slept well. Shower worked fairly well although did have an issue with the drain but that was promptly fixed when reported. Air con worked very well. WiFi is very fast. I uploaded 50 photos in less than 10 seconds! If you need supplies there is a large supermarket (Carrefour) just the other side of the block. Beware of Basement Rooms – Musty and Uncomfortable

    rating28 Jul 2025

The hotel is tucked into a charming neighborhood, and the breakfast was a nice touch—fresh and enjoyable each morning. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended. We were placed in a basement room with a small, unreachable window that offered no real ventilation. The room smelled musty the entire week, which we were told was due to heavy rains the week before. Nothing could be done, apparently, and the smell never improved...ended up with a sinus infection by the end of stay. The bathroom added to the discomfort—the shower leaked badly, leaving water all over the floor every day. While customer service was polite, they offered no real solutions to the issues raised. We also discovered that the basement rooms don’t get the same TV channels as the upper floors. When we asked about English-language channels, staff told us they weren’t available in the basement rooms.Disappointing overall, especially considering how nice the location is. Wouldn’t return if basement-level (-1 level) rooms are the only rooms available. Think the story of Cinderella, but in the basement not the attic. Principe Torlonia, Direttore generale at Hotel Principe Torlonia, responded to this review Dear Susie, thank you for your review and for choosing our hotel for your stay. The Economy rooms in the basement have a transom windows to let in light and fresh air but obviously, since they are in the basement, the room will never have the brightness of other rooms on the upper floors.Of course, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered during your stay.We greatly appreciate your feedback and we hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future to offer you a stay experience that can meet your expectations.Valerio

Wrong information is worse than no information.

    rating12 Jun 2025

Difficult to decide if this was a 2 or 3 on a scale of 1 to 5. The deluxe room (No. 105) was large and attractive with nice lighting and a high ceiling. The location also was good for us to park our car off the street and Metro to the city center. While I would like to rate the hotel higher, I cannot for these reasons: 1. The staff member provided us with a courtesy map to find our way to the metro and back to the hotel, but he drew an "x" on the map showing the hotel in the wrong location. It was about a half mile in error. This was very confusing because the name of the street where he drew the "x" was the sane as the name of the hotel: Torlonia. We tried to return to the hotel using the map and could not find the hotel. It required extraordinary effort to get back to the hotel after dark without GPS. 2. The safe in our room was broken. They promised to fix it the next day. Not fixed. 3. The TV in our room is broken. They promised to fix it the next day. No action taken. Still broken. 4. No hot water available in the hotel on the first night. Second night we have hot water. Good. If you stay here, get two room keys. Leave one in the room to keep power to the mini fridge. We didn't do that on the first day and the fridge did not cool. We expect more for the price we paid--up to 275 erro per night. Principe Torlonia, Direttore generale at Hotel Principe Torlonia, responded to this review Dear Marquem, thank you for your review and for choosing our hotel for your stay.We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered during your stay and we assure you that we are doing our best to ensure a nice and comfortable stay experience. We greatly appreciate your feedback and we hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future to offer you a stay experience that can meet your expectations.Best regards,Valerio

    Lovely stay in Rome

    rating23 Mar 2025

A peaceful and quiet hotel. The staff are so friendly especially the man at breakfast who made our coffees every morning (the one who speaks Spanish) and the man on reception (with glasses). Lovely staff who made us feel welcome. The best thing about this hotel was our massive balcony! Absolutely stunning and a lovely place to relax. The hotel is lovely and quiet - we slept well and didn't hear any noise. Very clean hotel - thank you to the cleaner. Had a fridge and kettle which was a plus. We didn't watch the TV but it is only Italian channels. Breakfast was nice - cakes, pastries, toast, eggs, cereal. Food was replenished, but slowly. The location was a bit far out for my liking. 10 minute walk to metro and bus stop a few minutes walk away but sometimes it took as an hour to get places depending on where we went. Local neighbourhood has plenty of options for food - try Pico gelato. Amazing value and so tasty. We also liked the restaurant Rigatoni. Aircon was a bit difficult to work. Principe Torlonia, Direttore generale at Hotel Principe Torlonia, responded to this review Dear Sarah, thanks a lot for your review and for choosing our hotel for your stay. We greatly appreciate your feedback and we hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future and provide you a satisfying stay experience. Kind regards,Valerio
