    Improvements needed for this hotel

    rating30 May 2026

The location is excellent and very convenient, but unfortunately the hotel itself is in need of some refreshing. The furniture feels quite worn and dated, and the rooms are rather dark, which makes the overall atmosphere less inviting. The area can also be quite noisy at night, but the biggest issue was the lack of soundproofing. We could clearly hear conversations from neighboring rooms, and even more private and intimate situations, which made it very difficult to relax and get a good night's sleep.Overall, the great location is the hotel's main advantage, but the condition of the rooms and the poor noise insulation significantly affected our stay.

    An excellent stay

The hotel is beautiful, located in the heart of Rome just a few minutes away from all the main attractions. The area is fantastic. The staff are very kind and helpful. Highly recommended.

    Feb city break

    rating14 Feb 2026

We do not understand some of the negative views that have been posted. The hotel is not far from Termini which can be quite salubrious to say the least but this is the 6 visit to Rome and 4th to this area. But you just have to have your wits about you as you would any major European city. It’s easy to get to all of the city from here especially on foot. We can’t really complain, yes the hotel needs a bit of ‘finishing’ but other than that, our room was a good size for us and we are not small people. Idea for a city break if you ask me.

Good Hotel Steps Away from Roma Termini

    rating09 Jan 2026

I stayed at the Relais Santa Maria Maggiore on a friends trip to Rome in October 2025. The hotel is located very close to the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, where the recent Pope Francis I is interned so the area has gained in popularity. Key to our stay in Rome was its proximity to Roma Termini central train station because my friends and I were using the hotel as a logistics hub for trains to other part of Italy on our trip, and in that sense, it was pretty good.We arrived early our first day, and there was baggage storage for our luggage because our rooms were not available. When we did check in, it was a very confusing process because there is a check in desk on every floor of the three story property because parts of the building are owned by the Vatican, and others by Italians. You do still have to pay the nightly hotel tax, regardless if you're on Vatican property, or Rome, proper. The rooms were European sized. Since my friends and I were all staying in individual rooms it seemed spacious enough, but I imagine that two people would find the space quite cozy. HVAC interfaces are available but are defaulted to not work. You have to call down to the desk to ask them to activate the system if you want it cooler/warmer than room temperature. There's some lounge space on each floor, but besides this, the property doesn't really offer any other frills/amenities.The neighborhood was fine. Not the best/most picturesque, but there were a couple of grocery stores within close proximity, and a very good gelato shop. There's no hotel breakfast and the offerings around the area are mid. Better to just walk to the train station if you want something more substantial/variety.I would definitely recommend the hotel if you want something above average with close proximity to Termini.

The hotel is very nice. Clean and modern. The rooms are not large but have everything you need to stay for a few nights. At reception, Mohammed was a gem. He made our stay memorable. Loads of knowledge and recommendations. We will definitely be booking into this hotel on our next Rome visit.
