    Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff, and convenient location!

    Our mother/daughter trip to Italy included two nights at the beautiful Hotel Scalinata di Spagna. The lovely historic building and our room were perfect. All of the employees we encountered were so kind and and welcoming, and the location close to the Spanish steps was very convenient. We were able to walk to most of what we wanted to do with our time in Rome. The breakfast buffet, which was included with our stay, was fresh and delicious. I don’t have anything negative to say, except I wish we had been able to enjoy it longer! If we make our way back to Rome, we would definitely love to stay here again.     Disappointing Stay Marked by Poor Communication, Unprofessional Service, and Hostile Management Response

    My experience at Hotel Scalinata di Spagna was extremely disappointing from start to finish. The suite provided was located significantly far from the actual hotel, with inadequate check-in instructions and poor communication regarding directions and building access. The room itself did not meet acceptable cleanliness standards, and overall customer service throughout the stay was dismissive and unprofessional. The checkout experience was especially unacceptable: after struggling to carry heavy luggage down multiple flights of stairs due to the hotel failing to properly communicate the existence of an elevator, we were met with criticism rather than assistance. When I later raised concerns about the interaction, the owner responded with an accusatory and hostile email instead of addressing the situation professionally. As international travelers, the treatment we received felt deeply unwelcoming and discriminatory, and the overall experience fell far below basic hospitality standards.

    Here’s a polished TripAdvisor-style review for Hotel Scalinata di Spagna:We stayed at Hotel Scalinata di Spagna during our couple’s trip to Rome celebrating our 1st anniversary, and overall we had a very good experience.The biggest highlight of this hotel is definitely the location. It is incredibly central, right next to the Spanish Steps and very close to Via del Corso, making it extremely easy to explore Rome on foot. There are also plenty of taxis nearby, which made transportation very convenient.The atmosphere of the hotel felt very authentic Italian/European, which made the experience feel even more special and romantic. The views were excellent, the hotel was very clean, and the service throughout our stay was outstanding.We originally stayed in a smaller room, but later moved to a much bigger room, which we appreciated a lot. The bathroom was spacious, comfortable, and very clean. Another positive surprise was how quiet the rooms were despite being in such a busy and touristic area.Breakfast was good — more of a basic Italian-style breakfast, but still very enjoyable. One detail we truly appreciated was that the hotel gifted us an espumante to celebrate our anniversary, which was a very thoughtful touch and made us feel welcomed.The only real negative was the bed setup. We requested one bed for two people, but it was actually two beds pushed together, and during the night they separated, leaving a gap in the middle which was uncomfortable for a couple.Even with that issue, we would definitely stay here again because the location, service, atmosphere, and overall experience were excellent. A great option for couples wanting to stay in the heart of Rome.     Great Location, classic Italian Elegance and Very Helpful staff

    We liked everything about this boutique hotel. Fantastic location at the top of the Spanish Steps and only a 15-20 minute walk to the heart of Rome. The room was beautifully furnished with classic furniture, ample size with a refrigerator. The staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. The concierge made dinner recommendations and reservations for us, ordered cab to airport. Breakfast featured a wide variety and served in a lovely enclosed terrace.
