Avoid Vatican City Relias - THIS IS NOT A HOTEL

    rating09 Oct 2025

Avoid Vatican City Relais – Misleading and Unpleasant Experience**I booked **Vatican City Relais** in Rome expecting a small hotel, but what I encountered was completely different from what was advertised online. This was **not a hotel** at all — it’s actually a section of an **office building** converted into a few rooms (about 11 total), with no reception area, no staff on-site, and no welcoming atmosphere. From the moment I arrived, things went downhill. There was **no front desk or receptionist**, no one to greet or assist guests in person — only phone communication. The **room looked nothing like the photos** shown on the website, and the **air conditioning did not work**, making it very uncomfortable. The surrounding **neighborhood was disappointing**, with **trash and graffiti** everywhere, making it feel unsafe and uninviting. This felt like a **bait-and-switch situation**, as the listing presented it as a proper hotel with amenities that simply do not exist. After this unpleasant check-in experience, I decided to **leave immediately** and had to scramble to find another place to stay. I would strongly **warn other travelers to avoid Vatican City Relais** and book accommodations elsewhere. There are many better, more transparent options in Rome that truly deliver what they advertise.

    Book if much cheaper option

    rating05 Aug 2025

Just ok. Having no access to front desk in afternoon and evening is very annoying. if ever a plumbing back up, run out of anything or emergency, you are on your own. Two coffee pods in room is also not enough. It was the cheaper option so we booked. Photos of balcony are so inaccurate. Our balcony although we appreciated having one was about 20 sq ft. Just enough for 2 stools, no table. Wasn't horrible. Just not great.

    Would not recommend

    rating04 Aug 2024

This is not a hotel it's more close to an apartment. Not sure why people have given this hotel 5 stars. It's located inside what would be similar to an office building. I think the pictures on the website are very misleading. The main issue we had is there was NO AC and we went at the end of July where the temperature was 35 degrees plus every day. The mini fridge in the room doesn't keep the items cold. We arrived very late and there was no instructions of how to check in. If it wasn't for our lovely transfer driver we would have been stranded. The lady who answered was rude and not very helpful. The team is supposed to be around from 9.30am but most times they were either gone by about 2pm and not there. The most helpful of the 3 people who ran the facilities was Raphael. There is additional charges of 5 Euro for extra towels after 3 days. The good things, although not as glamorous as shown on their website the venue was clean. The location is good as the buses are just outside and there are some nice local restaurants which are about 20mins walk either way, 5/10mins by bus. The bus journey to the Colosseum is also very convenient just 15/20mins although the bus service in Italy is not the best in terms of timings and there are no seats when waiting not the best for anyone with a disability like my daughter who can't stand for too long. In summary I would not recommend this hotel.

    Wouldn’t go back

    rating07 Feb 2024

Couldn’t get any good sleep due to the walls being extremely thin. Other than that the facilities were decent. I found myself trying to contact the hotel staff due to people screaming drinking alcohol etc… until 6 am. Other than that it’s in a decent location.

pillows very thin clerk leaves at 2:30 this is a hotel inside an apartment building no breakfast until 7:30 so if you have an early tour you don’t get to eat hot water fluctuates the A/C does not work very well I would not recommend it is not that close to attractions
