    AVOID!

    rating05 Nov 2024

AVOID! One of the worst experiences of my life, the hotel is super noisy, you can even hear when the next door guest is in the toilet, people screaming outside in the corridor, called the reception 3 times and they were quiet rude, the area seems super dodgy and dangerous, the beds well, sleeping in the floor will be more comfortable, we couldn't sleep, we waited for the morning to come and we decided to check out and leave before planned, I'm writing this review as public service hopping that no other family experience this horror story. Last but not least DIRTY! If I could I would give a -0

    Good location

    rating16 Sept 2023

We stayed at the Albergo Athenaeum for several days mid-Sept 2023. The hotel was chosen for its proximity to the E90 autostrade, 10 minute walk from the airport/main station railway line, and good-sized underground car-park (very important!). It's about 20 mins walk into the city - very straightforward once you get the hang of how to cross the roads. We were apprehensive about driving in Sicily, but we survived unscathed 1000 miles of driving in 8 days; the route from the hotel out to the autostrade involves crossing a busy three(ish) lane road, making a U-turn, and coming back in the other direction. When motoring here, you learn new driving techniques.... But the hotel's great position means that you're well away from the ZTL and the manic roads nearer the city centre.Good room with all that you'd need, comfortable beds, well serviced and good bathroom. The area where the hotel is located is a fairly typical Palermo side-street, lots of rubbish, cracked pavements etc; this is fine, just accept and go with the flow. Greet the locals, they are friendly!Reception staff, with just one exception, are friendly and helpful (take a bow, Salvo!). The exception could do with some training maybe. We thought the breakfasts were very good - loads of carbs, pastries, cake etc (typical Italian), fruit, and of course coffees of all types. We ate dinners in the hotel when we were too tired to walk into the city. The evening food is adequate (this is a 3* hotel, not a restaurant).All-in-all this hotel was fine, and a good base for our trips. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Sicily, lovely country and people.

wouldn’t recommend if you are english speaking only!! we booked this as they advertised as being english speaking and we struggled the entire week to order food and ask w questions at reception. when checking out one of the reception workers tried to charge us €100 euro and didn’t tell us while, when i asked what for he started arguing and shouting at me in italian, this was my first time aboard as only 18

The worst hotel I made with my school during our trip.

    rating30 Apr 2023

First of all, I’m a student and I come from Belgium with my school to end our childhood. I also think that is useful to say that we are 17 to 19 years old and globally not very tall. I’m currently in the hotel and I can say that the night was difficult cause beds are uncomfortable and the bedroom is small for four people… The bathroom is old but I have hot water ! Maybe it’s the only good point I can give us. About food I don’t know where begging. The first night we had pork and potatoes … Where is my Sicilian food ?! And for the breakfast we didn’t have as food as necessary to feed all the students. We asked for more food and after receiving industrial bread they disappeared… To conclude my experience I’m still waiting the hotel who looks like the pictures on this app… Nothing is real ! The view is also not like they say.

Not a good place for families with little kids/infants

    rating03 Mar 2023

We just came back from our family trip to Palermo (travelling with infant), and I need to say that the hotel was quite disappointing. To start with, no travel cot in the room (decided not to bother asking as the bed was big enough for me and my boy). The biggest issue was no kettle in the room to boil some water (especially for his feeds at night and early morning). I asked for it, but in the whole hotel they had NONE! During breakfast, there was not even one high chair available for my little one. He had to stay in a buggy all the time.Breakfast itself was very poor - not much choice apart from sweet pastries. And the room itself - the size was great and the housekeeping really good. I could not fault them one bit. However, the shower was not sealed properly and literally flooded the bathroom everytime we used it. When we reported the fault.....they offered us some extra towels!!!!Some of those things, maybe not a biggy when you travel just with adults. However, being there with a little baby was not made easy. I would definitely not recommend that hotel for families with little kids.
