Quiet hotel located well for exploring

    rating04 May 2026

Lovely quiet hotel with a cute cat and excellent food and service. Just outside the town, 20 mins walk to station (walk is flat and easy and pavement of sorts most of the way) but not the prettiest of walks. We didn’t have a car and there is not much in Giarre. Volcano pub is nice for a meal but we mostly ate at the hotel which was top quality! Hotel arranged a trip to Etna ( to 1700 metres) was a nice day. Hired bikes and cycled to Naxos beach. Pool area and views of Etna were nice. Overall enjoyed.

Quirky, welcoming hotel close to Etna

    rating24 Oct 2025

It's a very quirky hotel, overlooked by the brooding volcano behind. The atmosphere owes a lot to the history of the site, upcycling and exhibiting machinery and objects used there. There are a variety of room types, and we were in a ground floor room by the pool. The breakfast was continental supplemented by local produce and bakeries, especially the home made jams and yogurts! The pool area was clean and well kept. Plenty of sunbeds and a covered lounge area, with an afternoon pool bar.Giarre itself is a 20 minute walk with a good rail link. The local village is unremarkable with few bars and eateries. It was a good location as a base for exploring Etna and surrounding locations. Having a car or driver, or being part of a travelling group adds to the value of this gem of a hotel.

Beautiful setting with unforgettable views of Etna

    rating13 Sept 2025

Etna Hotel is a lovely old Sicilian country house with stunning views of Mount Etna. Rooms are spacious, air-conditioned, and very comfortable. The staff are friendly, helpful, and always attentive. The hotel also arranges volcano tours on certain days, which are well worth doing. The main downside is the location—you’ll need a car to really enjoy the area. The hotel can arrange car hire or taxis into Giarre, but walking isn’t ideal. Dining nearby is limited; the closest option is the Volcano Pub up the road, though the walk there can feel a bit hair-raising.Overall, highly recommended for the incredible views and excellent service.

    An unforgettable and memorable experience

    rating28 Aug 2025

If you are looking for an authentic, idyllic and slightly out of the way Sicilian retreat, the Etna Hotel covers all those bases. The views of Etna from the outside dining area are fantastic. All the hotel staff could not have made my stay any more enjoyable than it was. As an example, the lead restaurant staff member on my last evening there recommended the best dish (pasta in tomato sauce) which was the best meal I had during my stay at the hotel! Another being, one morning during breakfast my favourite song came on (80s hits radio) the radio station and one of the staff members was kind enough to put the volume up a bit so I could listen to it.I became familiar with most of the staff during my stay and got to know a few on first name terms. They were so happy when I was also able to speak a little Italian with them. The Etna tour excursion which leaves directly from the hotel was a memorable experience and one which anyone else choosing to visit can do and I would fully recommend. At the time of writing its around 60 euros per person. If I had one suggestion, providing a small excursion to see the historic sites of Catania would have made an already great holiday even more magnificent! I highly recommend and I believe that I will visit the hotel again in the near future as there is still so much to explore on the east coast of Sicily.Mark
