Location

The old town of Palermo is one of the largest in Europe, full of references to the past. Palermo reflects the diverse history of the region in that the city contains many masterpieces from different periods, including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, as well as countless examples of modern art. The hotel is just a 5-minute walk from the cathedral, Palatina chapel and Palazzo dei Normanni. Guests will find links to the public transport network, restaurants and bars in the immediate vicinity and the bus and train stations are approximately 1 km away. The beach in Mondello is around 6 km from the hotel and nearby airports include Palermo - Punta Raisi (25 km) and Catania - Fontanarossa (190 km).

Facility

The hotel was built in 1780. Guests have a choice of 102 rooms, including 9 junior suites, suites, 16 single rooms and 67 double rooms, located in a 4-storey main building and a 4-storey auxiliary building. Multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the reception desk are on hand round the clock to assist guests with check-in and check-out. Amenities include a cloakroom, a baggage storage service and a safe. Wireless internet access allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel offers various facilities for guests with disabilities. There are also a number of shops that make for great strolling and browsing. Additional facilities include a library. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage (for a fee) or in the car park. Other services include a car hire service, medical assistance, room service, an alarm call service, a laundry service, a hairdresser, a coin-operated laundry and a hotel shuttle bus. Bicycle storage is available to guests. There is a bike hire service as well. A business centre with fax machine and projector is available.

Rooms

Air conditioning and individually adjustable heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Guests can enjoy the view of the park from a balcony or terrace. Rooms have a double bed or a queen-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. Additional features include a mini fridge and a tea/coffee station. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio, a plug adapter, an alarm clock and WiFi (no extra charge) provide all the essentials for a comfortable holiday. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower and a bathtub, as well as a hairdryer. As a special feature, bathrooms are also stocked with cosmetic products and a selection of towels. The hotel has family rooms and non-smoking rooms.

    Great in some aspects. not so good in others

    First the good - the central location, an easy walk to all the major sites in Palermo and close to the Via Maqueda with its range of good places to eat; the staff who were charming, and the rather grand public rooms. The not so good: the bar downstairs not being open at all during our five night stay, and nor was the roof terrace available unless you wanted to eat in the rather formal restaurant. The downright poor: the bathroom is in desperate need of refitting! (room 327) The bath was quite dangerous really - not easy to climb into the bath to have a shower and the base of the bath was ridiculously flexible! The room itself was fine but there were other parts of the hotel which were in need of some TLC - the lifts were really quite shabby. Unlike other reviewers we weren't too bothered by noise from outside at night, perhaps because our room was on the alley side rather than the front. We had no need of AC while we were there. We loved Palermo and the great location of the hotel just about made up for the downsides but it would be so worth spending some money on this hotel to make it a fantastic place to stay.

    This hotel advertises air conditioning, but DOES NOT turn it on or fix it. We had ourWindows open with no screens, and had smokers and drunks below our windows all night…and mosquitos in our room. Eurostars would not credit us regardless of the deceptive advertising.

    You couldn't ask for a better location for a hotel. This one is smack dab in the middle of everything you want to see puts pretty much everything within easy walking distance. The staff are tremendously helpful and the rooms are clean and fresh. And there are really good restaurants very nearby.My only negative is that we were off of the alley so anytime the windows were open, which was the way to cool the room down. You wound up with a ton of noise coming in, particularly on weekends, other people on our tour commented that being on the street side was just as bad so be prepared and bring ear plugs

    Lovely hotel in a very central location. Easy walk to everything you want to see. Very fancy public rooms. Complimentary prosecco in the lobby at all times. Fabulous breakfast including fill your own cannoli if you are so inclined. Rooms are spacious. Small showers but great water pressure. Hotel can organize airport transfers. Very comfortable beds.
