    Frustrating experie

    rating11 May 2026

Unfortunately my experience in this hotel was very negative due to an unacceptable episode that occurred during my stay.Being an early riser, I got off early in the morning to go for a run, but I was practically prevented from going out. The night porter was deeply asleep and, despite various attempts, there was no way to get the door opened in a reasonable time, ruining my plans for the day.The most absurd thing, however, I discovered shortly after: the person who was supposed to guard the reception was not even a security guard or a qualified doorman, but a waiter named D…, obviously left there to cover a shift that was not his.I find it outrageous that a hotel entrusts the safety of guests and the management of the property during the night to unresuped staff who are clearly unable to perform the task. The staff management is terrible and there is a total lack of respect for customer needs. I strongly advise against it if you are looking for professionalism and 24-hour assistance. Grand Hotel Palace, Proprietario at Grand Hotel Palace, responded to this review Dear Guest, thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify that the situation you experienced was the result of a SUDDEN and EXCEPTIONAL MEDICAL EMERGENCY involving our night porter. This unforeseen circumstance forced us to cover the shift at the very last moment with a staff member not normally assigned to night duties. We fully understand your frustration, and we sincerely apologize. However, we believe it is important to avoid drawing conclusions or making statements that damage the reputation of a hotel that, in over 30 years of activity, has always guaranteed the highest level of safety and assistance to its guests, day and night. What happened was an isolated, extraordinary event, not representative of our service or standards. We have already implemented further internal measures to ensure that such a situation cannot happen again. We truly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and show you the quality and professionalism that have always distinguished our hotel.Kind regards.

    Beautiful hotel

    rating04 Aug 2025

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. It is truly a beautiful building that looks just like a palace. Staff were very helpful and responsive. Room was spacious and clean. Great location walking distance to everything in Marsala. Would definitely recommend if you are traveling around Sicily.

Not recommending for families with children

    rating07 Nov 2024

Hotel is definitely not as seen in the pictures. There is no beach in 200m and location is in the middle of nowhere between warehouses. It may seems like an 5 star hotel but it was more like 2* hotel. Definitely not recommending for people with children since you have like nothing to do there. Rooms and the hotel also stinked and bed sheets were dirty. They also charge you for everything. Tourist trap for sure. Only good thing was that the personal was friendly.

NOT a 5-star hotel. Everything was awful.

    rating05 Apr 2024

Don’t be fooled by the pictures online. In reality this hotel is very run-down and those pictures were probably taken 50 years ago. They now seem to advertise themselves as New Palace Hotel. But in reality, the only thing new in this place is the name. This is not a 5 star but a 2 star hotel with 1-star service masquerading as 5 stars. Actually, we have spent a night at a 2-star Sicilian hotel that was better than this. The exterior of the buildings is very run-down. The lobby actually looks ok. On arrival, the receptionist woman didn’t explain to us anything about the hotel facilities, such as breakfast and pool opening times and their location etc. Instead she handed me a leaflet and said that you will find all the necessary info there. It turned out to be a city map. This has to be the poorest service from the reception on arrival I have ever encountered in a 5-star hotel. (I was left unaware that there actually is a rooftop jacuzzi in this hotel, but I found it out later from reading other reviews on Tripadvisor, but it was no use during our stay). When we arrived to our room and opened the door, a flash of hot air greeted us. It was like a sauna with tropical 32C degrees inside. We had to immediately open to window to make it cool down. How can this happen in a supposedly 5-star hotel? Also the air conditioning only worked for two minutes everytime you turned it on and then it shut down. The shower looks like something you will encounter in a 1-star hotel. It was so small that you could barely fit in (see picture) and there was a whistling noise coming from the shower, when used. There was no concierge available at the hotel. In the room there was no welcome water (should be at 4 & 5 stars), no personalized welcome greeting (should be at 5 stars) and not all the bathroom amenities that should be offered at 5 stars, only a very limited selection. I have never seen such terrible sheets in 5 or even 4-star hotels. They were very thin, with no blanket inside. The kind you would expect to find in 1- and 2-stars, but not here. There were ants running in the room, so we weren’t impressed with the level of cleanliness either. The view from our room was towards ugly railway tracks (see picture). It wasn't even the worst room of the hotel, some other rooms here have a view towards a wall. Most 5-star hotels don't even have rooms with such terrible views as here. The breakfast was disappointing: a 2-star level breakfast and far from 5-stars. There was a very limited selection of everything: 6 types of cakes, 1 type of cheese, some cutlets and one basket of extremely hard bread, so hard that it was impossible to cut it with a knife. It wasn't possible to turn on the "do not disturb" light when we left the room (see picture), so the staff always knew when we weren't in the room. We didn't like this feature. What made an awful experience even worse was a call from the reception at 20.50 in the evening. We were watching TV and having a normal conversation, at a normal speech volume. But the receptionist woman called us to say “keep your voice down”, because the guests at the neighbouring room had complained about noise. I am astonished that she would make a rude call like that in a 5-star hotel, especially early in the evening, before 9pm, when it’s not quiet hours yet, and without verifying first if we were actually arguing loudly or just watching tv and conversing at a normal volume. She should have never made a rude call like that and instead offered the other guests to change the room. I tried to tell her on the phone that the problem is not our volume, but the nonexistant soundproofing of their hotel, but she interrupted me three times and refused to listen to me at all. She just kept constantly telling me with a rude tone to “speak more quietly with each other”, so when she kept interrupting me time after another, I had no choice but to hang up. Completely unacceptable service at 5 stars, but then again, this isn’t really a 5-star hotel. Believe the bad reviews and book somewhere else.

    Luxury of a bygone era

    rating09 Jul 2023

The surroundings may not be grand but the extensive gardens and pool suggest a grandeur of a previous era. The room and ensuite were well appointed and the buffet breakfast was excellent. The in-house restaurant served good food and there is a mega grocery store up the street behind the hotel.
