    Borgo Marinaro and Pink Flamingos

    rating27 Aug 2023

Niche seaside village. Exclusive with also the sea museum and a few kilometers from the Vendicari Wildlife Oasis. Super recommended, also, for those who want to admire the Pink Flamingos. A place that offers the presence of a small port, a cove with a beach and the presence of a naturalistic microcosm where migratory birds of various species are stationed. In the evening, it takes place with moderate nightlife and is very suitable for children because it has a playground. Originally submitted in Italian on www.tripadvisor.com. View originals.

    Lunch complaints

    rating15 Aug 2020

Your locationCalabernardo Sul MarePiazzale Rosa dei Venti, 96017 Calabernardo SRBed & breakfastLinda Caffolla119 points 4 minutes agoIt has been a while since I have eaten here, but at this time of year, when Noto is very busy, I decided to take my daughter for a lunch overlooking the sea. The ownership of this restaurant, has changed hands since we were last here. The location is beautiful, but our experience of the food and service was not good at all. Every table had a dirty ash tray on it with several cigarette butts in situ. The black vinyl menu had greasy fingerprints on it. No table cloths on the tables - unlike the photos on the website. As the waiter was putting the cutlery and water glasses on the table, my daughter pointed out the lipstick that was on her glass. The waiter agreed and immediately exchanged it for a clean one. We decided to opt for the chicken salad because the tables weren't clean and it was too late and hot to look for somewhere else in August, on a Sunday. What can go wrong with a salad. The menu stated that the salad consisted of mozzarella, tomatoes, chicken, lettuce and zucchini. However when it arrived there was no zucchini and the cooked chicken was extremely salty. The salad was undressed, albeit condiments of balsamic vinegar, apple cider vinegar, which had gone off and had skin or something floating inside of the small amount in the bottle.Additionally there was a dirty jar with damp salt inside, a spice bottle with dirt ingrained into the lid with less than a pinch of chilli flakes inside, a plastic espresso cup with toothpicks and a glass container with tasteless supermarket oil inside. All sitting in a very dirty plastic tray. Sicily is famous for its local oil and reputable eateries here will use local oil. The mozzarella was inedible and chesp, however the tomatoes were edible but without some delicious oil to pour over the lettuce from a bag....... The plate my daughters salad came on, had a huge chip out of it. We asked to speak with the owner , only to be told by the woman who came to speak with us, that the owner is very rarely at the "restaurant". So the woman who heard our complaints, argued with us and a guy also came to join in the arguement from the kitchen. The woman proceed to bring out a packet of raw chicken packaged in a supermarket polystyrene container, a plastic dish of chopped tomatoes, and a packet of supermarket mozzarella, pointing out that the expiry date was still okay. I rest my case. Both were shouting at us, telling us that they both have vinegar in their houses that have grown a skin. All I wanted was an edible lunch, thinking that a salad would be difficult to get so incredibly wrong. Furthermore, I don't want the staff arguing with me and not taking our genuine complaints on board. They were rude and disinterested. I am always reluctant to complain when I eat out, but on this occasion, the standard of cleanliness, and food hygiene, was quite frankly a Health Hazard. Had they taken our concerns on board and apologised, then I would have accepted their good intentions to improve. On the contrary, they chose to argue the toss with us. It's a pity because it is such a wasted opportunity to have a successful busy in such a lovely location. Additionally there is no other competition in the immediate vicinity, unless you go further on along the coast to the resort. I will post photos with this review, of the aforementioned issues. We were there for lunch only - we did not stay at this venue, albeit I was unaware that it was also a B&B.The owner is apparently a Mr Salerno. We paid the bill in full €26 for 2 salads, bottle of water and 1 portion of fries.
