    Good but could be better

    rating02 Jun 2026

We visited at the end of May and start of June 2026, having booked an all inclusive stay via Jet2 as three generations. The transfer from Palermo Airport took around 1.5 hours and included a drop off at another Mangia hotel about 30 minutes away, plus a couple of other in resort stops. We received a warm welcome and check in was straightforward, including registering my daughter for the kids club. Our room for two adults and one child was a good size, with a large double bed and another single sofa bed. It was clean, air conditioned and stocked with hand wash, moisturiser, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, although these ran low and were not topped up during our stay. There was also a Nespresso machine with pods, plus still and sparkling water, all replenished daily. The sheets were not changed during our one week stay and towels were only replaced when left on the floor (as advised to do so). Pool and beach towels are provided, but replacements cost €5 per towel and must be arranged through reception. The hotel has a main buffet restaurant. Breakfast offered the usual range of hot options including eggs, bacon, sausages and cooked vegetables, along with cereals, fruit, yoghurt and pastries. It is worth queuing for coffee from the barista, although the self-service machines were perfectly acceptable.Lunch and dinner both offered a reasonable selection of starters, mains and desserts. We never felt short of choice and did not get bored over the week. During our stay we were also able to book two evenings in the speciality restaurants. The Japanese restaurant was not open, but we enjoyed both the traditional Italian restaurant and the pizzeria. My daughter found something she liked, although some children may struggle as there is no dedicated children's menu. There were a couple of issues with availability. On some evenings gelato was served in the main restaurant, but despite arriving when dinner service started at 7.30pm, it had already run out by the time we reached dessert. We experienced something similar in the pizzeria where one of only three dessert options had already sold out. Thankfully our waiter, Massimo, went above and beyond and managed to source some fruit from the main restaurant next door.I am not sure whether the hotel is relatively new to all inclusive, but getting drinks with dinner often felt harder than it should have been. Every evening we had to ask for the wine list. On one occasion it never arrived and on another nobody returned to take our order. We are not big drinkers and generally only had one glass of wine with dinner, but service throughout the restaurants felt inconsistent. Staff were always pleasant and helpful when approached, but it often felt like a struggle to get attention.Once ordered, however, the wines were enjoyable and reasonably varied. We were usually asked for our room number and name and presented with a €0 bill, presumably so the hotel could monitor consumption. On one occasion, despite wearing all-inclusive wristbands and having already given our details, we were called back and incorrectly told we were half board guests. It was resolved quickly but was handled poorly and felt embarrassing. We also witnessed another all-inclusive couple being abruptly asked for their bill as they left the poolside restaurant, despite no payment being required. Our biggest disappointment was the kids club. As an only child, my daughter loves kids’ clubs because they give her the opportunity to meet other children. Information from Jet2 was not particularly clear about whether the club would be operating, but reception assured us it was and helped us register her.On the first morning we signed her in. Some children received club T shirts and caps but she did not. The activity board looked fantastic, listing paddleboarding and sea snorkelling, but after returning from the beach she explained that most of the time had been spent on the sand with a little paddleboarding in shallow water. We later discovered that many of the advertised activities were only available to children booked through Neilson. It would have been helpful if this had been explained from the start. The following evening she wanted to attend the kids disco which they allowed after deliberation, and then I was told she had not been registered the previous day despite me completing the paperwork at reception. I was asked to fill everything in again, suggesting the original registration had been lost. On our final morning she was the only child attending. Nobody contacted me to let me know and she returned rather disappointed that there had been nobody her age to play with. The outdoor pool area was lovely, although I suspect securing a sunbed could be difficult during peak season. The indoor pool contains sulphur water, so remove any jewellery beforehand as it can tarnish. There is also a peaceful adults only beach area which is worth visiting. The beach itself is accessible either via a fairly gentle walk, with just a few uneven steps near the bottom, or by using the complimentary land train. Sunbeds and a café are available, although the café is not operated by the hotel. One point worth mentioning is that Jet2's website states the hotel is 700 metres from shops and restaurants. It is not. These may refer to facilities at nearby hotels, but we did not have access to them. The Jet2 representative recommended either the shuttle bus or a taxi into Sciacca, the nearest town. Other guests told us taxis cost around €20 each way for a journey of only ten minutes.Instead, we booked the hotel shuttle to Palermo. The Jet2 rep told us it would take around 1 hour 15 minutes when not doing airport transfers, but the shuttle turned out to be a large coach which first collected passengers from another hotel. Because of the route and vehicle size, the journey took around 2.5 hours each way.Palermo was absolutely worth the effort though. The excursion was referred to as a shopping trip, which really undersells what is a beautiful and culturally rich city. We visited the National Archaeological Museum, the stunning cathedral with its rooftop tour and incredible views, and explored the bustling street food markets. The following day we also took a trip to the Valley of the Temples, which was direct and well worth the visit.Overall, this is a nice hotel with some strong points. However, if you want easy access to local restaurants, shops and bars, its location is not ideal. The kids club needs clearer communication, particularly for non-Neilson guests, and restaurant service requires significant improvement. For us, it did not quite live up to its five-star rating. Gianluca Interrante, Owner at Mangia's Torre Del Barone Resort & Spa, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and balanced review of your stay with us.We are pleased to read that you appreciated many aspects of your holiday, including the warm welcome, the comfort of your room, the quality and variety of our dining options, the specialty restaurants, the pool areas, the Calm Beach and the excursions you enjoyed during your stay. We are also grateful for your kind words regarding Massimo, whose dedication and attentiveness truly reflect the spirit of hospitality we strive to offer. At the same time, we sincerely regret the inconveniences you experienced. Your observations regarding restaurant beverage service, communication about the all-inclusive programme, the management of some guest charges and, most importantly, the Kids Club experience have been carefully noted. We understand how disappointing it must have been when expectations, particularly for your daughter, were not fully met.Clear communication and consistency of service are fundamental elements of the guest experience, and we appreciate you bringing these points to our attention. Your feedback provides valuable insight and will be shared with the relevant departments as we continue working to improve our services and operational procedures.Thank you once again for recognising both the strengths of the resort and the areas where we can do better. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you and your family back in the future and provide an experience that fully reflects the standards we aim to deliver.Gianluca InterranteGeneral ManagerTorre del Barone Resort and SPA

A Birthday Vacation Home Away From Home in Sicily

    rating01 Jun 2026

When I first planned my birthday trip to Sicily, I almost never made it to Mangia’s Torre del Barone Resort & Spa due to issues that arose through a third-party booking platform. Thankfully, fate had other plans. From the moment I connected directly with General Manager Gianluca Interrante and his team, everything changed. What began as a birthday vacation became one of the most memorable travel experiences of my life. The resort itself is stunning. The views of the Mediterranean Sea are breathtaking, the grounds are beautifully maintained, the rooms are modern and comfortable, and the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between luxury and relaxation. Every morning felt like waking up inside a postcard. What truly sets this property apart, however, is the people.Gianluca Interrante leads with genuine hospitality, warmth, and professionalism. Throughout my stay, he and his team consistently went above and beyond to ensure that every detail was perfect. You can feel the pride they take in creating an exceptional guest experience.A special thank you also goes to Antonella, who helped coordinate my birthday evening and made sure everything came together beautifully. Her kindness, attention to detail, and sincere care made the celebration feel incredibly personal. On my birthday, I was surprised with flowers, thoughtful gestures, birthday wishes, and a beautiful cake. These were not things anyone had to do, but they transformed an already wonderful vacation into a truly unforgettable memory. What touched me most was not simply the luxury of the resort but the humanity of the people. I arrived as a guest and left feeling as though I had found friends in Sicily. The sunsets over the sea were spectacular. The food was excellent. The spa experience was relaxing. The service throughout the resort was consistently outstanding. Yet what I will remember most are the smiles, kindness, and genuine hospitality shown to me every day.As a New Yorker celebrating a milestone birthday abroad, I could not have imagined a better place to spend it.To Gianluca, Antonella, and the entire Mangia’s Torre del Barone team: thank you for making Sicily feel like home.I will absolutely return.Grazie mille, Sicilia. Until we meet again. Gianluca Interrante, Owner at Mangia's Torre Del Barone Resort & Spa, responded to this review Dear MRS F.,I have read your review several times, and every time it touches my heart. As hoteliers, we receive many reviews, but every now and then there is one that reminds us why we chose this profession. Yours is one of those. When we first connected, I knew you were facing a frustrating situation that could have easily affected your trip before it had even begun. I simply tried to help in the best way I could, because I believe that hospitality starts long before check-in and continues long after check-out.Reading that your birthday trip became one of the most memorable experiences of your life is something I will never forget. What makes me happiest is not that you appreciated our beautiful sea views, our renovated rooms, our food, or our SPA. Those things are important, of course, and we work hard every day to maintain them. What truly moves me is knowing that you felt welcomed, cared for, and valued as a person. You perfectly understood what we try to achieve every day at Torre del Barone. Hospitality is not about buildings, furniture, or luxury amenities. It is about people. It is about creating genuine connections, sharing emotions, and making someone feel at home, even thousands of miles away.Antonella and the entire team will be deeply touched by your words. The small gestures for your birthday came naturally because we wanted to celebrate that special moment with you. Seeing how much it meant to you makes all our efforts worthwhile.Your sentence, "I arrived as a guest and left feeling as though I had found friends in Sicily," is perhaps one of the most beautiful compliments we could ever receive. It represents exactly the experience we hope every guest takes home with them.On behalf of all of us, thank you for trusting us with such a special occasion in your life. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your memories. And thank you for reminding us that what we do every day truly matters.Sicily will always be here waiting for you, and so will your friends at Torre del Barone. With gratitude and affection,Gianluca InterranteGeneral ManagerTorre del Barone Resort and SPA

    Great experience despite some issues

    rating31 May 2026

We loved this hotel, the kids had such a great time at the kids club, the pools were great and access to the calm beach for adults was very appreciated! We had a weird check in experience and only had access to half our room for the first night, but it was sorted the next morning and everyone was so apologetic about it. Alessandro, Luca and Valeria at the Calm Beach were super helpful and friendly. The only criticism would be that it is very hard to get an order in for a bottle of wine with dinner!Hopefully back next year! Gianluca Interrante, Owner at Mangia's Torre Del Barone Resort & Spa, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us.We are delighted to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay, especially the kids club, the pools and the relaxing atmosphere of Calm Beach. At the same time, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience during your check-in and the initial room access issue. We are pleased to know that the situation was resolved quickly and that our team’s apologies and support helped make your stay more enjoyable.Your kind words about Alessandro, Luca and Valeria are truly appreciated and will be shared with them.We also thank you for your comment regarding the wine service during dinner and will take it as a valuable opportunity to further improve our guest experience. We would be very happy to welcome you back next year.Gianluca InterranteGeneral ManagerTorre del Barone Resort and SPA
