Worst Mercure (Accor) hotel I have stayed at

    rating25 May 2026

I stayed at this hotel during a group tour of Sicily. It was the worst Mercure I have stayed at. As a member of Accor, I have stayed in a number of their brands of hotels. Even the Ibis hotels I have stayed at in Europe were superior. My bathroom had a curtain around the shower (NOT a rain shower). Shower curtains in a supposed 4 star hotel in this day and age are a thing of the past as they are unhygienic to say the least. I doubt that the bathroom was cleaned thoroughly. As regards the room itself, the safe did not work and the AC was controlled by the front desk and limited to late at night! This is the first time I have ever encountered anything so ridiculous, so after a day of touring we had to endure a hot room! The place should be inspected by head office and new management put in place. , Guest Services / Front Office at Mercure Palermo Centro, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Mercure Palermo Centro. We are very sorry that your experience did not meet the standards expected of our brand. We apologize for the issues with the outdated shower curtain, bathroom cleanliness, non-working safe, and especially the centrally controlled air conditioning that was only available late at night.Your comments have been forwarded to the hotel management for urgent review and action. We take this feedback seriously and will use it to drive necessary improvements. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back in the future and provide a much better experience.Best regards,Andrea StancatoGeneral Manager

    Terrible

    rating01 May 2026

The hotel simply shouldn’t be a four star hotel and I agree with lots of the reviews on here that the images are deceiving.Whilst there are some fantastic features - like the breakfast and the central location of the hotel, it feels like you have entered into another hotel when you pass through the reception area. When we arrived we were given a shocking room. No windows. Poor wheelchair access with the shower seat hanging off the wall and a fly in the room. We complained and were given a better but not perfect room.A number of other issues happened. Room not restocked. Extremely low toilet meaning as a wheelchair user I needed to use the one in reception and general poor condition of the hotel. On one occasion, we called reception for advice on where to get medical support. They said they would call back. They never did. When I raised this to the manager, Valeria, a few days later they pretty much called me a liar and said there was no record of the call.I already fed this back to the hotel and they provided a very defensive response. Similar to how they have been responding to reviews.Hopefully they will listen to feedback as it could be a brilliant hotel given the location. , Guest Services / Front Office at Mercure Palermo Centro, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for your honest feedback. We’re really sorry your stay didn’t meet the standards of a 4-star hotel. We appreciate you highlighting both the good points — the breakfast and central location — and the many issues you faced.A windowless room on arrival, broken shower seat, low toilet, lack of restocking, and the poor response when you needed medical advice are simply not acceptable. We’re especially disappointed about the way your complaint was handled by the manager and the lack of follow-up.We’ve shared your review with the team and management so we can address these problems properly. Your feedback is clear and we’re taking it seriously. Thanks again for taking the time to write. We hope to do much better if you ever give us another chance.Best regards,Andrea StancatoGeneral Manager

Lovely hotel but Palermo is Run down and dirty

    rating29 Apr 2026

Stayed here for a few days as part of a large group of friends. Upon arrival, quick checkin have passports at the ready as they like to rush through. Tourist tax is required and to pay on check out at €4 per night. Hotel reception, bar and restaurant area all looks quite modern and clean, smells amazing when you walk in. As stated we were a large group and all stayed in separate parts of the hotel, which are located in separate buildings. Which you are shown to by staff which was good. Rooms are spacious, basic and clean. We had fresh towels daily but didn’t need beds changing. The cleaners had been in everyday and made our beds though. Fridge in room, kettle, beverages, and hairdryer. Plenty of storage. My travel adapter didn’t fit the plugs so best to check which you need. Breakfast included and plenty on offer. The area is quite run down as is palermo overall, lots of street beggars including grown adults with children sending them straight to tables whilst eating. Some lovely parts, but do the research on what you want to see. The cathedral is lovely an absolute must though and the streets nearby all very pretty with some hidden tourist spots. Depending on where you are flying into would depend on airport transfer distance. We flew into catania and it was between 2.5-3 hours. We got on the bus to the centre and it €14 per person. Was nice to have a tour of the island, beautiful view of Mount Etna.Overall glad we went but not in a rush to return to Palermo.

Avoid Gaetano, and you'll have a fine stay

    rating24 Apr 2026

This hotel would have gotten 4 starts if it weren't for Gaetano. This man works at the front desk, and refused - in various occasions to give people sharing a room a second key. When we finally got to ask another staff member (when he was not present), they instantly gave us a key.Otherwise, the location was good, as were the breakfasts. The room was fine, but nothing exciting. No special treatment here. , Guest Services / Front Office at Mercure Palermo Centro, responded to this review Thank you for your review. However, we must address this directly: this complaint regarding Gaetano and the refusal to provide a second room key is simply not true. After carefully checking our records and speaking with the team, we can confirm that this situation did not occur as described. Claims like this, which are unverifiable and aimed only at discrediting the hard work of our staff, are unfair and unhelpful.Gaetano and the entire front desk team work hard every day to offer the best possible service to all our guests. We stand by them and will not accept unfounded accusations that damage their reputation..We hope future guests will judge us based on real experiences rather than fabricated stories.Best regards,Andrea Stancato General Manger
