Beautiful grounds and great staff, but far from a 5-star experience.

    rating01 Jun 2026

⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5)We stayed at the Romano Palace Luxury Hotel for the final three days of our holiday due to its convenient location near Catania Airport. The hotel does have some positive features. The grounds are attractive, the pool area is beautiful, and the reception area makes a good first impression. The staff were also friendly, professional, and helpful throughout our stay.Unfortunately, the positives were outweighed by a number of issues that are simply not acceptable for a hotel that advertises itself as a 5-star luxury property. The surrounding area is run down, with derelict buildings nearby, which immediately detracts from the overall experience. The fitness area was particularly disappointing. It was poorly signposted and appeared to be two old meeting rooms converted into a basic gym. There was no treadmill, no free weights, and very little equipment available. It fell far short of what most guests would expect from a luxury hotel. The rooms were the biggest let-down. They felt very dated and were in clear need of refurbishment. There was a significant mosquito problem, and the walls and ceilings were covered with dead, squashed mosquitoes, which gave the room an unclean and neglected appearance. The air conditioning barely functioned, often running for only a few minutes before switching itself off. During a heatwave, this made the room extremely uncomfortable. To make matters worse, there was no hot water in the bathroom, the bath would not hold water so our children couldn't use it properly, and the shower leaked. While the grounds, pool, and staff reflect the standard you might expect from a 5-star hotel, the rooms and facilities do not. There are simply too many maintenance and quality issues for this to be considered a luxury experience. We chose the hotel for convenience before our flight home, but based on our experience, it does not justify its 5-star rating.

Not a 5 star hotel but could be delightful with a little of bit of care and updating.

    rating11 May 2026

If you accept that this isn’t a 5 star hotel (maybe a 3.5 at a push) then you’ll be ok. Gardens and communal areas are 5 star but the bedrooms are definitely not. The bedrooms are run down, dated and in need of some modernisation. The staff are polite and friendly. Some reviewers have complained about the breakfast but in my opinion it was good with a decent selection. The pool was closed and not sure when (or if) it’ll re open, but passes to a “beach club” are provided. I’d give the beach club a miss as it was pretty terrible and drinks over priced.Overall not a 5 star hotel but could be amazing with a little more care and attention.

    Needs star rating reviewed

    rating11 May 2026

Hotel rating may need reviewing as this is not 5 star perhaps 3.5 or 4 .Rooms require updating, poorly lit with a single bedsite lamp and a single LED ceiling light.Well kept gardens and great outdoor space, however pool closed for maintenance.Good selection of breakfast options and polite courteous staff.

    5 stars???

    rating09 May 2026

While the communal areas of this hotel are undeniably impressive and grandly decorated, the "luxury" experience unfortunately ends there. Despite the five star branding, the rooms feel tired and are in desperate need of an update, particularly the furniture; however, they were at least clean and quiet. The service was consistently disappointing and kept to a bare minimum throughout our stay. We weren't offered any help with our bags or taxis, and the communication was poor—we arrived late expecting the light bar menu advertised online, only to be told by the barman that food was strictly limited to the restaurant. To make matters worse, the pool was closed for refurbishment, a fact we weren't advised of prior to arrival. While the breakfast was tasty with a good selection, the lack of attentive service remained a theme even there. Overall, the hotel is significantly overpriced for the experience provided. The location is on the beach but the beach isn't really worth visiting due to all the litter.

    Give it a miss

    rating09 May 2026

Romano Palace Luxury Hotel is certainly an interesting interpretation of the word “luxury”. Sadly, very little about the stay matched either the name or the price paid.Service was slow throughout, and the bar experience was particularly disappointing. Rather than creating a relaxing hotel atmosphere, staff in the bar were playing loud videos on their phones, which added a special touch of budget airport lounge energy. There was also no food available in the bar at all, only in the restaurant, which felt very limited for a hotel presenting itself at this level. The rooms were dated, tired, and in need of serious attention. Nothing about them felt premium, modern, or particularly comfortable. To add to the experience, the pool was also closed, which was another disappointment and removed one of the few facilities you would reasonably expect to enjoy at a so-called luxury hotel. For the price charged, I expected a far higher standard. Overall, this did not feel like a luxury hotel. It felt like a hotel trading on the word “luxury” rather than delivering it. Disappointing, overpriced, and not somewhere I would rush back to.
