    Lack of care and consideration

    rating08 Jul 2025

Poor care of the structure that houses the rooms, hot pool water, uncomfortable and no service in the area. There are no mosquito nets, dog tied to the chain in front of the reception, garden baskets always full of garbage, air conditioning engines of the adjacent rooms that shoot hot air on the outside area of the house. Check in late and check out very early. The staff always very annoyed, it almost seems that the guests are more of a hassle while the visitors to the gardens are much more welcome. In short, for 150 euros a day it gets better. Originally submitted in Italian on www.tripadvisor.it. View originals.

    Poor Value for Money

    rating30 Jul 2023

I was disappointed.Honestly, the gardens are quite lovely, and the space is so unique. The pool, and guest lounge area have a lovely ambience too.Disliked · Sadly, it was not good value for money. The staff seemed aloof, not welcoming. Yes, there is a language barrier, with the reception staff having very little English, and us having no Italian, (we only speak English, French, Flemish, Bahasa, and some Spanish). We weren't given any information about the hotel at check-in, or any time after then. The wifi was not working when we arrived, but we also were not told that the wifi (when it does work) only works in the guest lounge area. In the blurb here on Trip Advisor it doesn't indicate the wifi is only available in one small area, either. Mobile data signal was sketchy. We were not given a wifi password and it was only when I was in the guest lounge (trying to find a data signal) and saw a staff member to ask if the wifi that popped up did belong to the place, and what was the password. This was the same staff member who had checked us in an hour or so before, knowing he hadn't told us anything about the wifi except that the internet wasn't working at the time.I am working while travelling, and needed access to the internet not only for work, but for future accommodation bookings. Having to take the computer to an outdoor pavillion (guest lounge) in 40 degrees heat, with no fans and my glasses fogging up was really untenable. I imagine it would also be annoying if it were raining. There seemed to be a bar/drinks area in the guest lounge, but we had no idea of the prices, or when it was open. It just wasn't communicated to us.And the only reference to it was a closed shed with some drinks written on a blackboard outside. In the Trip Advisor blurb, under facilities, it says "Pool Bar", but we certainly did not experience that. On a further note, there is such a wasted opportunity where they could have had a bar and coffee and some paninis available at lunchtime for the guests staying, as well as those visiting the garden. As it was, we were out in the boondocks with nowhere around to buy food or drinks. Our two bedroom accommodation was nice, but basic. The only power points in our room were for the 2 bedside lights, so if we needed to charge our camera batteries (again, for work), we had no bedside light. The toilet paper is just cheap squares like you find at a public school. We had no soap at our basin. Things were chipped, damage to walls, just little maintenance things which don't matter at all if we were paying half of what we did pay.No tea towel and no hot water tap in the kitchen, so difficult to wash anything up.No laundry facilities. The flat screen TV referred to was a computer monitor size flat screen TV perched on top of the refrigerator in the kitchenette. Not quite what we pictured.I was very disappointed. This cost almost $500AUD per night, so it was a bit of a splurge on my 2 month trip, but compared to everywhere else I have stayed on this Euro trip, it wasn't worth it.A lovely idea to ride bikes around the island, but they need to be hired from elsewhere, and it just wasn't good in the heatwave (obviously this can't be helped). But being away from everything, you need to have transport for food, water, etc. as there is nothing at all nearby. The roads leading to Villa Margherita are unpaved, so be aware that getting to and from on a bike is not a breeze. So much could have happened to make these negatives seem small, but it didn't. The overall feeling was of being ripped off, and also not welcome, on what could have been a beautiful stay.I know this sounds like I just want to have a big whinge, but I have over 420 reviews on this site and most of them are positive, and I always like to find the good in a place, but I was just sad after my stay here.

Amazing place to stay in Favignana

    rating26 Aug 2018

The garden and the villa arrangement are absolutely beautiful. In every corner there is a place to sit down in a super relaxed and beautiful atmosphere. The pool area is great and in the night, the charm is even bigger as lots of candles are lighted everywhere. This garden is the best place to finish the evening after a day full of swimming and snorkeling. There is a possibility to rent bikes directly at the location which is very convenient. I highly recommended villa Margherita !! We will come back again !! Total relax & immersion in nature, fabulous spring sun and swims, fullyequipped, cosy apartments, & a personal touch!

    rating09 May 2015

I rented a small self-catering apartment at villa Margherita all for my self because I needed to relax (and indeed I pursued my intent!). It is tied away from the fashionable town, and easily to reach by bicicle, the means most used on this island, but you can rent a scooter, call a taxi or walk if you prefer.I found myself totally immersed in nature, with beautiful trees, bushes, plants of all kinds, and perfumed flowers everywhere. It was so quite and you cound here the occasional little bird or even the bee (so rare in this world as they are almost extingiìuished aren't they?!). The place is famous for its 'giardini dell'impossibile' (garden of the impossible), where plants of hundreds of types grow in a difficult environmnet, inside suggestive caves which used to be a quarry. You can see hybiscus flowers of colours that you would not dream of, even gold and silver! People come from everywhere to visit them. My apartment was 'the pink apartment', ideal for a single or a couple, but the private outside space sits and would confortably host at least 4 more guests for dinner or a chat. The outside private space is fundamental for relaxing after the beach, having dinner, read in the open air, and what makes it ideal is that although on one of the paths of this group of holliday apartments, it is cleverly isolated by beautiful climbing vines and plants (perfumed flowers included!) so that your privacy is garanteted hundred per cent. and there are chaise longues, table, chairs, a barbeque and an open air shower (fudamental for this kind of holliday!).The apartment inside was simple and had everything one would need, from aircondishioning and tv (which I don't personally need), to a powerful idulging shower in the bathroom, cooking facilities, clothes drier to put outside, cupboards. There were also those 'personal touches', which I am sure are all ideas of the owner, donna Maria Gabriella the welcoming owner and jenious inventor of the garden. The furniture is vintage, with a Seventies feel, I loved the breakfast cups with roses, and from what I gathered from the stuff each apartment has different ones! The owner and her husband the ingenner Campo, are very wellcoming too, relaxed and enjoying hospitality. The cleaner is a beutiful gentle girl, Barbara I think, and she knows her job. What else? I think the best time to go is in May or September /October because there are not too many peaople in town. But Villa margherita would be relaxing during all season anyway! There is a stunning swimming pool too. The beaches where so beautiful there are no words. The food in town was amazing especially at 'Le 2 colonne', with chef pietro coming to wellcome you and charming you with his life philosophy. I bought Bottarga to take home, it is the egg of the tuna, dried, it must be bought in this area and be fresh in order to eat slises on on bread or in pasta, an absolute delicacy!
