Once a worthwhile stay, now tired and very poorly managed.

    rating18 Apr 2026

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel it’s important to share our experience so others know what to expect. We stayed at Villa Calandrino as a group of six (three couples) for four nights (Wednesday–Sunday). Based on the 4★ rating and photos, we arrived with high expectations. Unfortunately, the reality was very different. The hotel is located around a 10-minute drive from Sciacca centre, which is convenient. However, on arrival we were greeted in the driveway by an intoxicated individual, which was not a great first impression. The receptionist was polite and professional, but this was one of the few positives. We were informed on arrival that the swimming pool was unavailable. When we saw it, the water was green and clearly not maintained, despite temperatures reaching 26°C in mid-April. The surrounding grounds were also poorly kept, with mostly uncut grass and outdoor seating consisting of old, broken chairs. The rooms were very basic but acceptable. However, several key issues made the stay uncomfortable: • WiFi did not work at all • Rooms were only cleaned once during a 4-night stay • There was no proper hot water for showers (only lukewarm on one occasion)Breakfast was extremely disappointing and only available between 8:30 and 9:30am. On multiple mornings there was no butter, very limited bread (and none at all one day), and the overall offering was minimal: packaged ham, processed cheese, cornflakes, oats, and hard-boiled eggs only. No fresh fruit or variation. On one occasion we were sent to a nearby bar for breakfast, where we were given just one croissant and coffee each. The most frustrating aspect was the complete lack of management presence. Despite multiple requests, the manager/owner never appeared to address any of the issues. Communication was poor throughout, including being told late in the evening that we might need to change rooms due to a party, only for this to be cancelled at the last minute. There was also no proper check-out process — we were simply told to leave the keys and go.Overall, this property feels neglected and is clearly not being maintained to the standard advertised. The photos online do not reflect the current reality.Summary: Convenient location, but poor maintenance, lack of basic amenities, and absent management make this a stay we cannot recommend.

avoid at all cost- go somewhere else

    rating18 Apr 2026

Nice potential but terrible management – avoid at all costsWe stayed at Hotel Villa Calandrino in Sciacca from April 15th to April 19th, and despite the place having some charm and potential, the overall experience was extremely disappointing. The hotel could be beautiful, but it is completely ruined by terrible management and a total lack of consideration for guests. There is no proper maintenance anywhere—rooms, gardens, and pool are all neglected—which is unacceptable at this time of year.Out of five nights, we only had hot water once. The rooms were dirty, the shower didn’t drain properly, and housekeeping only cleaned the room once during our entire stay. Communication was poor from start to finish. In the middle of our stay, we were asked to change rooms because of a supposed private event (a 50th birthday) planned in the breakfast area. We agreed, only to find out that the event never actually took place. No one informed us, no apology was given, and the room change turned out to be completely unnecessary. Because of this disorganization, we were also redirected to have breakfast elsewhere.Breakfast is honestly one of the worst parts of the experience. The cakes shown are clearly reused and put back out every day, the eggs are the same, the bread is not fresh and also reused, there is no fruit, and nothing is restocked. Despite having a Lidl just two minutes away, no effort is made to provide fresh products. We were sent to the Capitol Bar (basically the local kebab/snack place), where we were given only a coffee and a croissant—nothing more. The only positive point is Patricia, the woman in charge of breakfast. She was kind, present every day, and clearly doing her best with very limited resources. The manager, Valeria, did respond to us at times but never actually resolved anything and largely ignored our requests. She was mostly absent, and when she was on-site, she avoided us rather than addressing the ongoing issues (including the hot water problem). She did not come to check us out despite our request, and overall showed a clear lack of professionalism and accountability.Additionally, after reading other Google and TripAdvisor reviews, it is clear that these problems are recurring and not just a one-off experience. When you arrive, the hotel displays 4 stars—do not trust it. It does not deserve even one.In short: a place with potential, but completely neglected, poorly managed, and severely lacking in communication. Avoid at all costs.

THE place to avoid in Sciacca

    rating14 May 2024

a real pain and surprise with a place far, so far, too far from what their pictures can make believe; they are lying.you can see no picture of the bathrooms, of course they are small (4m²) , and water was cold when we tried our 1st shower. Electric wires are accessible when you have your feet wet and in the shower !!! (can finish like ClaudeFrançois if some know him)Breakfast is bad; bread is dry and pastry fat..very fat.Coffee has bad taste like it is hard to find in italy !The pool is cold, dirty, and without scale to get out.and worse of all, the view is not shown on their site...guess what !fantastic view on horrible buildings , overlooking on the pool..Cherry on the cake; we had to leave the place because of a flight cancelation...and they refused to remburse one night.

    Facilities not as advertised. Unwelcoming

    rating24 Sept 2022

Very unwelcoming. The hotel was locked and abandoned when we arrived mid afternoon. When someone drove up to let us in she was nonchalant. Despite the hotel website saying it provides lunch and dinner none was available. Some guests who had booked for a week and were without a car had to walk long distances for food and were given incorrect local info by reception. The breakfast was awful, very little choice apart from cakes. Information about the partner beach club is unclear and not promoted. I pushed on this and got a good deal on a lovely day on spiagia San Marco. The pool is as nice as it looks, but the abandoned air of the place and the difficulty of getting a drink or any kind of refreshment puts you off staying around for long. Mosquitos made one night unbearable for one of our party. We left early.

    Good in parts

    rating15 Sept 2022

The road leading to the hotel was not easy to find even with sat nav. Through the entrance gates onto an unmade driveway which was compressed “crush and run”. Parking was adequate and reception easy to find. The rooms were all ground floor with no windows other than glass double doors which were stuttered. The internal curtain was quite difficult to open and draw. Remember this is a 4 star hotel and I would expect better! The rooms quite small although tastefully furnished and beds comfortable. The fridge had 2 x 500mm bottles of water and nought else (4 star?). As usual not enough hangers in the only wardrobe and no safe in the room. The bathroom was tiny and shower quite awful as in the photo. The pool and surrounds were first class, the water being perfectly clean and attended too each morning. The pool bar was only open Saturday and Sunday afternoon and closed all through the week.Breakfast was hit and miss and quite inadequate really with it not being refreshed often enough, so if you were a late arrival then it would be sparse. Indeed I had to complain regarding this and it improved. Quite disappointingly americano coffee was instant but the espresso coffee was great. Not much to choose from in the immediate vicinity with regards to bars and eating options. In conclusion the hotel was like the curate’s egg (good in parts) but certainly not befitting four stars. And no I would not stay there again.
