Charming hotel with super staff, in a great location ! Perfect for exploring the local area.

    rating01 Jun 2026

What a lovely stay at your lovely hotel ! The hotel is in a great location, close to the local beaches and the cable car which takes you up to stunning old town of Taormina. The hotel is full of old fashioned charm and whilst some updating may be needed we loved our room (Suite) which had an enormous terrace with views to the sea, a jacuzzi bath and lots of mood lighting ! It was cleaned to a high standard daily. Breakfast was good with plenty of continental options, ham, cheese, bread and cakes and they also have scrambled eggs and frankfurters. The pool area also had beautiful views out to the sea and you could order drinks from the bar when you wanted. A highlight of the hotel were it's staff who were very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The service we received from Claudia was outstanding and she always greeted us with a happy smile. Thank you for an excellent stay ! We would return. Anne-Marie & Ian.

    dissapointing

    rating17 Oct 2025

I stayed at Villa Esperia for a few days with a group. Taormina is absolutely stunning – truly a magical place. The hotel is located near the beach area, and you can reach the center of Taormina by bus, cable car, or taxi.Unfortunately, the hotel itself did not meet expectations. The room was very basic – there was no electric kettle, no tea or coffee, and not even proper shampoo or body lotion. No bathrobe or slippers either, which are usually standard in a 4-star hotel. But the worst part was the attitude of the staff. I politely asked for a ceramic cup in the dining area, and suddenly a receptionist stormed in and practically forced me out, saying, “You are only entitled to a plastic cup.” I was left feeling insulted and shaken. It was a clear sign of disrespect toward a guest. And honestly – in what century is plastic still being used in a supposed 4-star hotel, even just for water? The next day I expressed my concern (translated), but no one apologized or acknowledged it in any way.Sadly, despite the beauty of Taormina, I will not choose this hotel again. Hotel Villa Esperia, Proprietario at Villa Esperia, responded to this review Dear Ms Nana,We clearly remember how you threatened the reception desk with a negative review because you demanded an apology, without obviously realising what it means to respect the hotel rules and, in general, to respect the staff. First of all, you cannot expect to come to a hotel and ask for a different room from the one your group booked. You group booked a low budget rooms and you asked to change rooms on the day of your arrival for free of charge. In every room there are products for the toiletterie such as:body lotion, soup and so we did not understand where you want to stand with this review. The same applies to services. You claim to have politely asked for a cup of coffee, although you do not explain how the things really went. You entered to where dinner service was taking place, in a nonchalant manner and demanded a cup. The staff explained that they are not authorised to give out cups of ceramics that are used exclusively for breakfast, instead we offered to give you plastic glass. Not satisfied with this response; you felt the need to insist. Keep in mind one important thing: every hotel has its own rules and for sure you cannot compare it with the one’s in your country. Adding also to remind readers that the hotel offers services, but rudeness and arrogance on the part of customers is not tolerable because respect must be mutual. It has become shameful how customers like you allow themselves to express opinions that do not reflect the hard work of the staff. Threatening to write a negative review only shows the kind of person she is, and we will not stoop to that level. You only mention one part of you want to tell since I think you forget that we assisted several people of your group with every kind of help they asked, even when one of friend was sick and we let her go in the room earlier than the check-in time. Several people in your group were happy and thanked the staff so it is quite unprecise your version. Finally, if you thought the hotel was not up to your standards, then you would have been better off changing hotels and choosing one at a price that reflected your needs. All the best

If you like peas cauliflower and wet eggs for breakfast then keep reading, if you don’t, keep reading anyway …

Hello, this is a balanced and honest review of our time at the villa esperia. The location of this hotel is definitely a plus – close to the cable cars and beaches – and the view from the pool was lovely. We didn’t have a balcony, ( We were under the impression that we had paid for a balcony with a garden view but instead overlooked someone’s house, with only a tiny bit of sea in sight ) but we did find a terrace on the 4th floor which was a nice spot to sit out. Also, the hot chocolates at the bar were lovely! Unfortunately, for us personally as the younger customers the negatives outweighed the positives. At checkout we were surprised with a €58 city tax that hadn’t been mentioned. The lift to reception was slow and shaky, and the staff on reception never seemed welcoming. The room felt very basic, with no amenities at all. One of the plug sockets next to the bed didn’t work and the bed was so hard it aggravated my back problems. There was no duvet, just a thin sheet, and although extra blankets were provided, the ones in the drawers had hair all over them. The shower leaked badly, and behind the toilet seat looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks, which was off-putting. Also, I had an uncomfortable and unwelcoming interaction with one of the cleaners when I entered the lift with them as they had grunted/scoffed at me. The breakfast was also not what we expected, with soggy fruit, unappealing hot food. There were only 4 hot options every day consisting of wet eggs, cold, chopped up hotdogs and boiled cauliflower peas and green beans. It was an interesting choice to say the least. Not sure what Italians I think us brits eat for breakfast but it’s certainly not that… alongside a dining hall that felt more like a community centre. However some of the cakes were lovely (plus the bowl of tomatoes and the mozzerella balls!) If you wanted a table for two, you were stuck in the conservatory which was boiling hot with no blinds. Around the pool, towels cost €5, about half the loungers were broken, and the pool made a constant loud gurgling noise made it hard to relax.Overall, while the location and pool view were good, the hotel felt dated and uncomfortable. We feel it’s more geared towards the older generation, which we weren’t aware of when booking, so wanted to share our experience to help others make a more informed choice. Hotel Villa Esperia, Proprietario at Villa Esperia, responded to this review Dear Mia,Thank you for providing us your feedback both on Google and Tripadivor that will certainly help us to do better and we would like to tell you a few things just to make everything clear from our side. It is very important for the staff of the hotel to receive feedbacks in them moment. If something does not work during clients’ stay and not after they leave hotel. I think you should understand your duty as a guest is also to report if something is not working at the reception desk.First of all, If you thought that mistake was done for the room you have booked, we did not understand why have you not spoken with your travel agency or you could come directly to the reception. We are usually more than happy to provide our help when it is requested and if you wished to change room, we could have given you the chance showing you other rooms if available. When it comes to city tax, we would like to remind that city tax must be paid in every city in every part of Italy, at the reception, there is also a signboard, where there is specifically noted that there is a city tax to pay. Regarding the services that the hotel provides such as laundry service, towels service for both pool/beach and garage require a payment for people who whish to use them. Of course, if the guests wish not to use them, you are more than free to choose for yourself. I remember also that the receptionist told you that if you felt more comfortable, you could also buy towels from another place. It is not our responsibility to make up your mind to whether use a hotel service or not.We are also very sorry to hear that your back was in pain, but how we could have known about if you did not communicate with us and here comes also another question with us how can you define unwelcoming the attitude of the reception when you were barely saying hi or even speaking with them. I think honesty should be the ground of every kind relationship between Hotel service and guests.Regarding the breakfast,if you do not speak directly to us, how can we know what would you like. Describing the hall of the Hotel like the community Center is quite surprising and I believe you do not what a community centre is or probably you have not the right taste to understand what kind of handcraft masterpiece are provided as furniture. In the end, it is very strange that you did not like the hotel but you stayed with us for a week and never say a word to us. We remember you that if you are not able to speak during your stay it is pretty useless and nonsense to just complain about it after a week. Remember always to speak with the reception when there is a problem because it is more useful to do something in the moment than to think it later. We thank you again anyway and we hope to see you again to make you mind up.

    Okay hotel

    rating21 Sept 2025

We just got back from 10 days at the hotel, The hotel was nice, when we first arrived our room smelled damp and was in a dark corner of the hotel. My husband spoke to the staff, and the first lady wasn't very helpful. She called another girl over and she then changed us to another room which was much nice and didn't smell like damp. The room itself was nice and was cleaned daily. We did b&b, and honestly, the food was terrible. The scrambled eggs were, either rock hard or runny, they had hot dog sausages and bacon. They had a selection of meat and cheese and pastrys. If you went down later than 9 , the pastry selection wasn't great and wasn't topped up. There was one guy at breakfast who made you feel like a criminal for being there and asked us three times one morning for our room number. It's a family run hotel, and besides the blonde girl on reception, they were all really nice. The pool is lovely and big with great views. The drinks are on the pricey side and I recommend if you get an aperol by the pool you go inside and have it as I think its €10 whether it's in a small plastic cup or a large wine glass. They do bring your drinks to you, which is good, and they also have a bar menu, we stuck to ham and cheese toasties. The dinner menu is put up every day, but to be honest, because of the quality of breakfast, we didn't try it.The location is fantastic. You are 5 minutes from isobella and the cable car to go up into taormina. The cable car is €10 return or €20pp to go up and down all day. You get picked up for trips right near the cable car.We checked out and had a few hours by the pool and the staff came over and asked about a stain on the wall, asked where the stain was and they just kept repeating the wall but didn't clarify which one. I said I hadn't noticed a stain and had no idea where it was. I think they wanted to charge us for repainting the wall, but, as stated, the room was cleaned daily, and they hadn't mentioned it before check out. The girl was a bit stand offish with me after that, when I went to pay for some food. Overall I would recommend the hotel for the location and how the staff were at the beginning but it is definitely a 3 star hotel. Please make sure you bring good shoes as there are no foot paths to the hotel from the cable car/ beach, and I did sprain my ankle on the uneven road walking up. It is also slightly uphill, with steps then up to the hotel, so if you struggle to walk, it may not be the hotel for you. The staff did get me ice and where really helpful once I got back to the hotel.

Just got back from a 7 day trip to Mazzaro, wow its so beautiful!Experia Hotel, is a family run hotel, we had top floor to ourselves, huge terrace! Very traditional Sicillian style, if you like ultra modern it's not for you! Which we normally do but we went with, when in Sicilia! Breakfast very good!Beach very close, down steps opposite hotel, very steep! Beds are 50 euros to hire, 2 mins from cable cars 10 euros each.We went to Savoca where they filmed the godfather on the bus 10.30 and 5.00 bus back, great day! 15 euros for 3, We also got the bus to Giardini/Taomina train station 6euros and jumped on a train to Catania 30 euros, great day out for shopping and exploring! All in all a lovely wonderful little gem!Great hotel, would recommend, absolutely stunning views!
