  Great place to stay to visit Val D'Orcia!

  This was our third stay in the old Capitano Hotel in San Quirico, and the best! We stayed 4 nights in room 23 (Capricorno), a large suite with windows opening onto the street. Bathroom a bit muddle in layout, shower, no bath. The bed was large, very comfortable, beamed ceilings, fun, quirky lights, cavernous space! The restaurant of the hotel, just down the street, serves up superb Italian food, and we ate there almost every night. It has always been superb! LOVE staying here to visit Val D'Orcia!   A wonderful accommodation with abundance of history in an amazing hamlet in the heart of Tuscany

  What a wonderful accommodation with views of the surrounding Tuscan hills. The location was perfectly central for exploring Val Dorcia. The hamlet was steeped in beautifully preserved historical buildings, with amazing food options catering for all budgets. Our room was from a story book yet had all the necessities for modern comforts . We had the top floor in No 7 once you navigated the steps you were rewarded with the amazing views. The accommodation was spotless the staff were friendly and available.   Lovely hotel. Very friendly staff who were very helpful. The let done was being charged to take our bags to the accommodation. Also when I arrived at reception the man watched me trying to get up the steps with my suitcase and didn’t offer to help. The restaurant was superb for dinner and breakfast. Very comfy rooms.   Beautiful stay in Tuscany

  Beautiful family run collection of properties scattered throughout the medieval town of San Quirico d’Orcia. Warm welcome on arrival, followed by a tour of the main property, and it is stunning! There’s a Rooftop garden that has to be seen to be believed and fast became my favourite place to relax & unwind. A rooftop bar also operates in the late afternoon & evening. On offer is accommodation, dining, shopping & activities. This family is invested in their town and their hotel ensuring you have the most pleasant & memorable stay. They do what they do well. It was my first visit but definitely won’t be the last. 10 out of 10!!   Unfortunately, our experience at this hotel was far below any acceptable standard, especially considering the price we paid.The first impression was disappointing – although check-in was stated to begin at 4 PM, we arrived at 4:20 PM and the room still wasn't ready. We were met with bags of linens and a cleaner who had just started cleaning. We were only able to enter the room at 5:20 PM, without any prior notice of the delay. Had we known, we would have stayed longer in Florence instead of waiting around unnecessarily.After finally entering the room, I was met with another unpleasant surprise – the bathroom floor was wet from mopping, and I slipped the moment I stepped inside. Given everything that had already happened, this was the final straw.Additionally, while the parking is technically nearby, it is accessed via a flight of stairs, which is extremely impractical if you have luggage – as we did. This information was not provided, but it absolutely should have been, as it’s crucial for many guests.An even bigger issue was the shared space – a kitchen and dining area used by all guests, located directly outside the rooms. Nowhere in the accommodation description was it stated that the rooms are within a shared apartment. Had we known that, we never would have booked our stay here. You can constantly hear other guests literally sitting outside your door, which does not contribute to any sense of privacy or comfort.The room also lacked basic amenities such as a trash bin, aside from a small one in the bathroom. And as an “apology” for everything mentioned, we received a voucher for their shops – which were closed every time we tried to visit.In short, a lack of transparency and a complete disregard for the guests. A huge disappointment and a poor experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone. It’s a shame, because this accommodation could have had potential – if it were managed by someone with more professionalism and respect for their guests.
