    Saddest hotel we've ever experienced

    rating18 Oct 2025

Piccolo Hotel Etruria was well located, just steps from the main plaza. We also got a good dinner recommendation from the evening clerk. However, that's its only positive attribute. It was shabby and dreary, noisy and inhospitable. Where shall I begin? The Room: The rooms were spartan. There wasn't a fridge or a hotpot in the room or even in the public area. The bathroom was tiny and didn't have any glasses. We asked for some and were given a couple of minuscule plastic cups. They didn't provide shampoo or body soap. The towels seemed like dish cloths. Only one of the plugs worked with our adapters, so we went out and bought a new one, but it didn't work either. It kept falling out. Our Bed: While preparing for bed I noticed a strange bulge poking up where my husband's back would be. Upon further investigation, I found a sewing needle! The next morning when I showed it to the receptionist, the first thing she said was that it wasn't the hotel's fault, it was the laundry service. Never did she apologize or show concern for our well-being. Wow! Public Spaces: The public area had a couple of mostly empty vending machines with some breakfast bars and coffee. There were a few couches covered in old fabric that looked they came from your old Auntie's home from the seventies. The poor plants hadn't been cared for in ages. The rubber tree was covered in dust, the palm and philodendron were half dead. We hung out in the public area because our "superior" room was so dismal, but the public area was stuffy, so we opened a window only to be barraged with smoke and noise from the bar downstairs. How can this be considered a two star hotel? Are there no standards or qualifications? I've stayed in far nicer one-star hotels and even hostels with better environments and attitudes. Is there no pride in your establishment? It's called the hospitality industry, but the Piccolo Hotel Etruria was totally inhospitable.

    Very old, dated and basic

    rating11 Sept 2024

The hotel is very old and dated. The elevator works if you keep the button pressed going up; however do not expect you will get the elevator being at first or second floor. You will have to get down on the stairs, take the elevator and get to one of the upper floors. If you are on the first floor expect that you will have to go with the suitcase one and maybe to more flight of stairs in addition to get up to the first floor. Good exercise! The only strength is the location.

    Upscale hostel with great location

    rating09 Dec 2023

The hotel is basic. It feels like an upscale hostel. For this reason it’s rather expensive. The best aspect of it is its location. Very close to all major sites to see. Piazza del Campo is literally 1 minute away. Many shops and a supermarket also around the corner. The lady at the reception was very nice and helpful. No fault of the hotel but some of the customers were loud and I was woken up at 3 am by them. Also the fan in the bathrooms are so loud I could hear the next door every time they went to the toilet and turned on the light (the sake system in my room so I know!) The streets around the hotel are pedestrian but the noise of chatter and drunk people on late Friday night was unpleasant.

Excellent location, kind hosts, but you get what you pay for...

    rating15 Nov 2023

The location just off the main piazza is wonderful, as is the kindness of the hosts Leopoldo and Lucrezia. The room we rented was quite small to put it kindly. The air conditioner was so loud it kept us up half the night, and opening the window just brought in the ample street noise. The breakfast was not very good. I would recommend you eat elsewhere.

    OK Basic Accomodations

    rating13 Oct 2023

This is not a luxury hotel, but it was clean and comfortable and you can't beat the location, only steps from the Campo. The gentleman at the desk gave me good advice on restaurants. The same people seem to operate both this and the hotel next door, and you go next door for (optional) breakfast. The breakfast was fine--a good selection of various baked goods and in recognition of foreigners' tastes they even had scrambled eggs. One note: bringing a car into Siena is really difficult--most areas are actually off limits. I followed the advice on their welcoming email and used a parking valet service based outside the central city--a little expensive but it removed a huge amount of stress. I would stay here again
