Great Hotel in a great location

We have just returned from 10 days at this lovely hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Especially the staff in the restaurant. They could not do enough and we're always cheerful and friendly.The food was very good and varied.Excellent location. Just 10 minutes walk from town, ferry port and railway station.We would definitely recommend this hotel.

It was like walking back in time, Faulty Towers..., great location and rooms are nice also has a swimming pool behind next to the parking, the problem was the dining room/breakfast very basic and the staff looked constantly miserable and stressed not at all friendly and a big sign telling guest NOT to remove any food from the restaurant, not that we wanted to.

Old World Charm , if a little " dated" but we loved it !

Old World Charm, if you like slick, modern, corporate , this isnt for you. Its a large hotel, with mainly a more mature clientele . Our room had a ' side ' lake view and balcony. The view was absolutely breathtaking . The rooms are comfy, the bathrooms charming but slightly haphazard with bath plugs that dont fit, but its so pretty we didnt care . Overall The feel is Belle Epoque meets The 1980s . The breakfast is outstanding, a huge buffet selection served in the large dining room over looking the lake . , When we arrived to sounds of hammering from some construction ( probably finished now as we stayed a long time ago) we complained and got a bigger, nicer room ( who wants woken with that noise ). It's a charming old world lovely hotel in a breathtaking location . We will be back

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Special mention to all the staff at check in who were very kind & helpful! We had 2 rooms for our family of 4 which were ready before the check in time, spotlessly clean and spacious with amazing views & lovely balconies. The breakfast choice was plentiful, with a cold buffet or a hot choice, all of excellent quality and quantity. Special mention to the housekeeping staff who kept the rooms and the entire hotel wonderfully clean & tidy, discretely & quietly but always with a cheery hello! The location was beautiful and only a 10 minute stroll to the centre of Stresa where plenty of great restaurants can be found. Absolutely no faults, can not praise it enough & would highly recommend staying at this lovely hotel! This is our second time staying in The Astoria & it won’t be the last! Thank you to the whole team!

We had a superior lake view room. It was so small. Not enough storage and we kept having to move a solitary armchair to either get into the wardrobe or out onto the balcony. I would have thought that a 4* hotel would have provided tea/coffee making facilities or at least a kettle but no. Apparently it is if you have a suite. Having said that there would be nowhere to put a kettle except on the dressing table and even that would be a push!.Housekeepers were excellent. The room was spotlessly clean as was the rest of the hotel. The food was superb. We were there for 10 days and dinner was not repeated during that time. Restaurant staff were friendly. Water was chargeable which I thought was a bit off and a bottle of wine was expensive. We found much nicer wine at a fraction of the cost at the local supermarket. Would we return, because of the room size, the lack of at least a kettle and the size of the room, no.
