    Amazing stay in Courmayeur

    What a perfect little hotel and restaurant. Our host Paulo and Aldo were amazing. Spent 2 nights in early June. Proximity to everything. Bus system is quite easy to get to several trail heads if that’s your thing. Had dinner in their restaurant. Food was great and wine list is like you have never seen.

    We stayed for a week over Christmas and the experience was ok but not amazing. The hotel is pretty enough, and centrally located, 10 minute walk from the 2 main cable cars up the mountain, and walkable to various restaurants (we were B&B only and didn't eat in the hotel restaurant - breakfast was good though). Unfortunately the quality of the rooms seemed a bit variable (we were a big group so we had 4 rooms) - one was large and spacious, the rest were smaller and one had almost no storage at all (some hanging space but no drawers) which meant one couple living out of their suitcases for a week, which is pretty poor). The bathrooms are really small, no shelf space and tiny corner showers, where the water veers between boiling and freezing depending on whether other people are using the showers in other rooms. No baths. Also, one room was over warm (hot pipes running through it) with no way to cool it down except open a window. The bar was quite nice in the evening (though they only had one CD, so it was lucky we were happy to listen to the Best of Pink Floyd every night!), and the indoor pool was a good size (but variable temp, sometimes hot, sometimes cooler), and there's a small steam room and sauna. Unfortunately, while some of the staff were lovely, we found the owners/hosts to be pretty unhelpful and unfriendly, bordering on rude. Maybe it was just us, and maybe others don't mind, but it made for a cold and impersonal experience, whereas other similar hotels make a point of being effusive, friendly and welcoming. Given that were there for Xmas Eve and Xmas Day, there was no special effort made at all to celebrate the day or make it more special for a bunch of kids in our party.

    Nice hotel, very nice lounge area. Friendly staff, good level of English. Very nice waiter who had lived in the UK for 4 years.Room was fine, nice and big, no views. Had to take the plug thing off the key ring, and leave in the slot in my room to keep it warm, as it was freezing the first night, with I returned.Wasn’t overly impressed with the breakfast, as no hot food at all. Tried to order an omelette by not possible. Fresh fruit, but not fruit salad. One of the best wine lists I’ve seen - worth a visit for this alone!

    Fraud - Do not book with this hotel!

    I made a booking with this hotel through Booking.com and then cancelled it and emailed directly to the hotel for the booking. I never provided any credit card or payment details and they never asked for any. I wasn't able to show up or to contact them to cancel the booking, as we were trekking the TMB and got stuck over night at a hut without any service. They ended up charging the credit card that I had given to Booking.com, which I never gave them and charging me for a completely different rate to what I had even booked. They also charged another fee under a different name. Both Booking.com and my credit card have tried contacting them several times about this and they are completely unhelpful - claiming that it is my fault for not showing up. It is completely uncharacteristic of this part of Italy and really quite disappointing. To take my credit card details without my authorisation and to charge me an amount for the full stay that was never agreed is just pure fraud. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!

    Although I stayed in this hotel for only one night, I can confirm the good reviews that led me to choose it.Maison Saint Jean is a kind of boutique hotel, with a good restaurant, comfortable and well furnished rooms, centrally located within few minutes walk from the main street of Courmayeur. Bed was also very good, bathroom large enough. It also offers a swimming pool, which I couldn't profit of. Breakfast is international, with sweet and salty food, among which home made cakes that are worth to eat. Definitely recommendable.
