Great location but ££££ and no way a 4* hotel

    rating08 May 2026

This hotel is on Venice's main island and a short walk from the Santa Lucia station so the location is great. Unfortunately, that's about where the positive review ends. The hotel cost £230 for one night (yes it was a busy period but before the biennale opened). It purports to be a 4* hotel but anyone expecting a 4* hotel will be gravely disappointed. The room, bedlinen, towels were clean but everything else was shabby and worn. Some important, some small minor details but not 4*.The electrics were old. There were no plugs to charge a telephone or computer next to the bed or anywhere in the room apart from one near the door and one in the bathroom. The cover of the bathroom light looked scorched, one of the wall lights flickered, the furniture was old and chipped, the upholstery on the one chair seat in a double room was worn. One window was inexplicably sealed shut. The obligatory notice indicating the emergency exit had been removed from the door (or fallen off) and was in the wardrobe. The wall was so thin I could clearly hear the conversation of the people in the next room at 6.30am.In the bathroom, the toilet was a squeeze in the corner facing the end of the bath (impossible for anyone with long legs to use without contortions!) and the seat was loose. Breakfast was OK. The young man at reception who checked me in was pleasant, polite and extremely helpful as were the porters and cleaning staff. The older man who checked me out was extremely rude. And not just me. A colleague staying in the same hotel confirmed he was also rude to her.A very disappointing stay.

    No 4 star hotel.

    rating05 May 2026

There is NO way this should be a 4 star hotel. No better than a roadside motel. Very dated, poor maintenance, needs lots of work. Feeling fortunate it's only 2 nights or I would insist we move.

    Five star location

Great location in Venice. Easy walking to most points. Lots of restaurants and Gilato just steps from the door. Very short walk to the train station.Although the room and lifts were small, the location made up for everything.Clean hotel with good breakfast.

    HOTEL AMADEUS.... Old school charm.

    rating07 Dec 2025

This was our second stay at the Amadeus. The first being Nov 24. Again we chose Nov as Venice is much quieter and prices from UK cheaper. Our stay was 11 days. The hotel is situated 10 mins from the Railway Station, 15 mins walk from Piazzale Roma. This is where the airport bus picks up/ drops off. The hotel is old school, very clean, towels, bedding etc changed virtually daily! Our room was on the first floor overlooking the garden.Breakfast is from 07:00 - 10:30 and has plenty of variety . Public areas are spotlessly clean, staff are helpful and friendly.

Great location for a couple of days in Venice.

    rating09 Oct 2025

This is sold as a 4* hotel, but in my experience, it falls short of being a 4* and a 3* rating would be more fitting. The first thing and in my opinion, the best thing to note about this hotel is the location. It is literally less than a 5 minute walk from the train station and the vaporetti station (the water buses). Definitely something to bear in mind when you have to lug a suitcase over an infinite amount of bridges! There are restaurants, bakeries, bars all within a stone´s throw from the hotel. The reception was very classical and the young guy was very polite and helpful. Our room was on the 4th floor, 401 on the top floor and it was a key with a traditional brass keyring. I have to say that our room was very small and quite old in design. But seeing as we were only going to be sleeping in it, we didn´t let it bother us too much. It was slightly lacking however. Only 1 bedside lamp, 1 chair, no desk or table. The shower was very good though. The walls are very thin though and you could hear people just talking. We think there must have been a staff room of some sort next to us as there was no number on the door but staff used to go in and out and they made a lot of noise at all times of the day!We opted to have breakfast in the hotel. It was adequate but nothing exceptional. You had a machine for coffees and teas and another for juices. There were 2 hot dishes of scrambled eggs and bacon and the rest was a selection of fruit, hams, cheese, a yoghurt machine, a pancake machine, bread and pastries. I did ask on the first morning for more scrambled eggs as the dish was empty. I waited over 15 minutes and then gave up. There is only 1 waiter on service.I also asked at Reception if I could borrow or hire an iron but I was told they didn´t have one. Then I realised why when I found the laundry bag in the wardrobe with the price list for washing & ironing items - €7 to iron a skirt, they aren´t going to lend me an iron!We stayed for 3 nights. The bed was comfortable and clean, the shower was very good and we had a good breakfast to set us up for the day. Venice is magical and it is a good base to explore this beautiful city,
