  Lovely stay…very helpful staff!

  We stayed here for 4 nights and had a wonderful stay. The staff were fantastic and a special thank you needs to be extended to the young woman on Reception on our final morning. The Grand Canal was closed for a rowing event and there was no means to get to the train station. She helped us to transfer our train tickets and advised us on how to get to the train station on foot. We were very grateful…excellent customer service!!   On the plus side the hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. On the negative side the hotel is 3 stars at best. No tea or coffee facilities or water in the room ( other than the mini bar) , the room was tiny…only 3 metres wide so only 1 side table could fit on one side of the bed and there was nowhere to place your toiletries in the bathroom. On one of the days, the shower was cold. I mentioned it to Marko at the desk and he said “ that would’ve woken you up”. The toilet seat also fell off ( although they did fix it), the small wardrobe was not built in or connected to the wall ( looked like a cheap robe from EBay). There was a worrying large crack across the concrete ceiling. To get to and from the room with our 23 kilo suitcases and hand luggage we had to walk up around 30 steep stairs as the lift only went to the second floor and we were on the third floor. We love holidays but we were basically glad to leave this hotel.   A plus staff!

  THE GOOD: Located in the San Marcos district there are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby and the Basilica and Doge Palace are less than a 15 minute walk. So, the location is excellent! THE BAD: Yes, the beds are a little too firm and one set of pillows were like bricks but the other set was softer (albeit thin). It's also an older property which comes with obvious limitations. Being a spring visit the climate controls were not in operation so keeping the room a comfortable temperature was a challenge. WHY I STILL GIVE IT 5 STARS: The staff was ABSOLUTELY IMPECCABLE. Ricardo, Marco, Kumar, and the rest of the team were extremely attentive and exceeded our expectations. I have been to Venezia many times and all the older properties have limitations and unique issues. The staff is 100% what sets this place apart and makes it worth the stay.   Avoid!

  Not a 4 star hotel. No real amenities: no coffee machine or kettle in the room. No iron. No water (apart from the mini bar, €4 a small bottle of still). Pretty useless hairdryer. Creaking bathroom door. The plugs are coming off the wall. There is a constant bathroom smell which you could expect from any Venician hotel of course (maybe a simple diffuser or potpourri could help???).The breakfast is minimal for 20€ per person: only scrambled eggs and bakon as a hot breakfast (we were not told requests were welcome or anything at all for that matter), cereals, bread, croissants, chocolate croissants, fruit salad and yogurt, 2 types of juices - not fresh. The breakfast room is very small you might as well be sharing a table with your neighbour. I could not find any bowls for the fruit salad or cereals.The "courtyard view" is not the view of the courtyard. It's the view of a wall 1.5m away from your bedroom window and of the external air con unit (which is loud). You can't see the sky, so you have to go out of the hotel to see what the weather is like. Again, that would have been ok as we are in Venice. But cheeky to call it a courtyard view.The bar closes at 10PM. But it's not really a bar, more a tiny extra corner they filled with 3 high chairs by the breakfast room. I don't believe they offer dinner either. So don't expect to spend too much time at the hotel. We could have ignored all that though, because it's Venice - and you are in Venice to explore and enjoy a romantic break... but for that you need to be able to sleep at night!The air con situation mentioned by others is appalling and the main issue here. We simply could not sleep because of the noise. We called the front desk at 1AM. They came up, pretended to try to fix it. Then told us they could not do anything about it and that the technician was asleep so they could not call him (the irony - considering we are the guests who could not sleep). We asked for the air con unit to be turned off and were assured it had been fixed on two more occasions but then it wasn't. It also blows hot air so be mindful if you decide to come for a summer vacation, it WILL get very hot at night. Opening the window to let some air in seems to set it off even more (and let the moskitos in). So it leaves you in one option: suffocate whilst staying awake.They did give us a glass of prosecco each for our troubles though! How magnanimous! And told us the hotel was full and they couldn't move us to another room (no extra emergency rooms at the Duodo).The air con also left me with puffy eyes every morning (or was it the bed?). Makes you wonder if it has ever been cleaned or the filters changed.If you want to sleep, and do so in a 4 star hotel, there seem to be plenty of other options in the area. Even a 3 star will do compared to Duodo. And most hotels have a restaurant, which Duodi hasn't.Also be mindful that the cleaning staff don't always lock the door after making the bed and cleaning the bathroom. Therefore anyone can come in and steal your stuff. The door locks with an old fashion key and we found it unlocked on 2 occasions during our 4 night stay.I don't usually leave reviews but this time it was worth my typing away just to avoid someone else the disappointment.
