  Rediscovering Venice!

  We had a very nice stay at the hotel. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast was outstanding. We dont do reviews but we wanted to post it this time as the staff really deserves it, from the reception, to the concierge desk, and the pier team, everyone made us feel at home. We stayed for 3 nights and the concierge made us a fantastic itinerary, offering options out of the box as foraging in the Sant erasmo island, or going for a morning in the market, and play golf at the Lido (yes there is a golf course in venice also a very nice tennis facility right across the hotel). This is our third visit to Venice, and it felt like the first time. Staying at Lido and going to Venice for restaurants or art, is the best thing to do if is not your first visit. Lido has a great beach as well, and lots os things to do. We will be back.   Relaxing stay at the Excelsior

  We have stayed at the Hotel Excelsior Venice for two nights after a busy 3 days in Venice. The Lido is the opposite comparing to Venice, more chill, but with lots of shops and restaurants, without the huge traffic of tourists. The team at the hotel bar is very kind and the cocktails were great! The room was one of the renovated ones and we had a great sleep. I cannot wait to be back in the summer.   What an amazing hotel. So beautiful inside and out. The staff are amazing and couldn't be more helpful and friendly from check in to check out. We were upgraded to a refurbished room (thank you) which was spacious and beautifully decorated with a very good sized bathroom that had a bath and overhead and held hand shower.Coffee machine and kettle in room with coffee pods, milk pods and complimentary waters and snacks. Also a complimentary bottle of prosecco. Rooms were always cleaned well daily. The breakfast was very good also with cereals, cooked breakfast, cooked meats, cheeses, yogurts, fruits and pastries. Fresh bread also and fruit juices. The restaurant staff were so welcoming and friendly. I didn't get everyone's names but Sara and Donatello mostly served us and were a delight. The gentleman on the buffet selection was especially helpful in helping me choose a coffee. Now to the ouside areas. So spacious and so many different areas to sit and relax in. The pool was heated and very large with towels provided and a lifeguard on duty. The complimentary shuttle boat was a bonus and the staff at the shuttle were very helpful as were the boat drivers . Very understanding and patient with a nervous sailor! All in all the stay was a very memorable experience . Oh, forgot the hotel tour with Roberta! Sorry Roberta. It was fascinating and Roberta was an excellen and informative guide and also made the tour fun.   Disappointing- inconsistent service and sadly untrustworthy staff and dismissive management

  Sadly I’m currently trying to locate two jewellery items that were , let’s say, not in our room at departure .The hotel are very dismissive about this .Additionally our privacy was invaded when two staff members entered our room on our last morning, albeit with a do not disturb sign being present. Rather than apology, the response was dismissing - stating by email that couldn’t have happened.I’ve asked them to check their own cctv to see this event . It only goes to show me that even when I absolutely know what happened they will ignore a first hand witness and try to gaslight me. We shall see what the final response is. It’s very upsetting a sad that the trip I arrange for my husband to celebrate a special event is overshadowed. The birthday surprise didn’t happen, I had to request it to happen a day late, even after emailing and discussing at check in. Unlucky on all sides we feel. Let’s start with the positive. Beautiful arrival at the hotel across the waters into a private boat entrance. We had a Venice view suite and the room , freshly restored, was comfortable and spacious. The Blue bar is very expensive for food and drinks, we stay in some beautiful hotels around the world, this may take the prize for how much a plate of pasta could be. That said the food was delicious. Breakfast was enjoyable and we didn’t have any issues unlike some other reviews. The beaches close mid September , so no cabanas but lido was an interesting place to have a walk around. Complementary boat to San Marco very helpful. Trip to Murano also interesting , however the cost to buy any items at the island is hiked 400% more than in Venice. Don’t forget customs & vat and admin means there’s a 40%+ cost upon its arrival in UK If you go ahead. On our final day after checkout the hotel kept our bags and we had a tour with lady duty manager as to hotel history, she was a delight and we had only hoped she would have been our lasting feeling about the hotel and Venice. Sadly not.   Buffet breakfast not very hot and not much choice, expected to pay extra for an omelette, which is not something I’ve ever experienced in any other hotel. Price of food and drinks were bordering on extortionate. The service in the rooms was poor, we constantly had to ask for tea and coffee to be replaced. Our room privacy was invaded and when we reported the issue they said they had investigated fully with no fault found, basically calling us liars. The atmosphere in the hotel was far from friendly or sociable, staff barely communicated with guests. This was our third visit in 10 years and we noticed a massive drop off in standards and quality. In short this is never a 5*L hotel. I could go on but I don’t wNt to waste anymore time on it.
