Old, musky, tiny, expensive, filthy, hot room

    rating23 Feb 2026

We booked a room with a queen bed for 2 people. -Old musky building, rooms and hallway-Carpets old and filthy-High humidity-Tiny room-Tiny washroom in a closet sized space, very dirty, no space to put more than a bar of soap -Nowhere to put more than a few luggage, then you have to step over it(No walking room after you put your luggage down on the floor)-It's advertised as having Wi-Fi but the Wi-Fi only works around the reception area and their adjoined restaurant, which is like 40 yards away-No peep hole in the door (security issue)-There are a lot of stair steps to the room that we were in and many other rooms so if you're taking a lot of luggage then this will be an issue. This place is definitely not wheelchair accessible - a wheelchair will not fit down the hallway unless it is very small. -Walls may be "soundproofed" with carpet but the door is not so you can still hear people walking by and speaking loudly, even if they're not loud. No privacy.-Hallways are super narrow for even one person at a time and it was difficult to move luggage at the same time while walking through it - I am slender with 12% bodyfat, for context.-No elevator-No refrigerator No deskNo chairNo spaceNo phoneNo blackout curtainsNo working ACNo remote for AC-Front desk is separate from the actual hotel so if you wanted to go to the front desk you have to walk down halls and stairs and then outside and around the corner of the building and then into the front desk office to ask for the remote control for the broken AC unit that doesn't work anyways. I tried using the remote on my phone app, it could connect and operate the AC unit but the unit would just die 3 seconds later after it turned on.-See through curtains, no privacy-The closet is just an old janky armoire built into and above the bed-The doors of the armoire are damaged and some don’t open-We found other people's pubic hairs in the sheets so they don't wash the sheets if they appear clean I guessThere are no places to hang out towels or anything else in the bathroom. The shower is like a coffin sized space with a shower curtain. When you step out, your shin will hit the toilet bowl. Old dirty tile/grout. It was so dirty I did not shower, as I was only there for 1 night. No window screen so you can’t open the window without letting mosquitoes in. With a broken AC, their solution at front desk was to "open the window" and then when I mentioned all the mosquitos would come in the room, they gave us a can of bug spray as the solution LOL! They want you to spray and breathe in bug spray while you're sleeping? The front desk staff was accommodating as much as they could be. The problems stem from management/owner, who was micro managing the front staff when I was there, twice. The restaurant food is actually decent but not the best prices. The quality of the food is good. We ordered the salmon and sliced grilled steak and pepperoni pizza which was on four or better than most other tourist locations in Rome, Florence etc. The service was good. We actually ate there twice. They have 1 waitress on staff all the times we were there and walked through the restaurant, she is over worked but she does her job well and was very nice. If you are overweight, you will not fit on the toilet space, nor in the shower, and barely the sink area. That's if you make it up through the stairs and hallway. If you're over 6ft tall, watch your head as you go down the stairs or you risk a concussion. If you just need a place to put your stuff then maybe this is ok but if you value the quality of your stay/sleep, then STAY AWAY. They're only making money because of the location!

Completely unacceptable stay – avoid if possible

    rating18 Feb 2026

Our stay at Hotel Messner in Venice on 14 February was extremely disappointing and far below any reasonable standard. My husband, my daughter, and I arrived around 11:30 PM after a long travel day and were placed in what barely resembled a proper room. It was freezing cold, there was no hot water, and there was no Wi-Fi available to even try to find alternative accommodation. The situation was made worse by the behaviour of the front desk staff member, who ignored us when we tried to report the issue that same night. The following morning we requested a different room, as the one provided looked nothing like the photos or description online. We were first shown a room with no bathroom light, then eventually given another room that still felt dirty, had extremely poor water pressure, and took around 30 minutes for the water to become hot—if it became hot at all.The toilet seat was broken and had to be removed just to use the bathroom. Although we reported this and were told it would be fixed immediately, nothing was done, creating an unhygienic and very uncomfortable situation for both myself and my daughter. On top of this, the electricity kept cutting out roughly every 40 minutes, leaving us without light, Wi-Fi, or television and making us feel unsafe.Overall, this was a deeply unpleasant experience and not what we paid for. We felt completely misled by the online description and would not recommend staying here.

Cannot recommend this beat down hotel.

    rating17 Jan 2026

Beat down, poorly maintained. Checked out yesterday Jan. 16, 2026. No hot water most of the 4 days...lukewarm at best. Staff just gave a stereotypical wave of the hands: "what can one do?" Suspect the boiler's turned down to save $. Toilet seat was broken; completely loose on one side which nearly sent user falling into the shower. Reported on first morning....was told a maintenance guy would come. Four days later, it was still broken. Amazon Europe shows a new seat to be less than 17 euros. I would have fixed it had I had a wrench and the part. In a city teeming with hotels and in the the very off season, cannot recommend.

“Uncomfortable stay, no Wi-Fi, bad breakfast”

    rating23 Nov 2025

Stayed with two young daughters: room in a separate building with no working Wi-Fi, “private” bathroom not in the room but down the hall, door swollen and didn’t close properly; the girls couldn’t open or close it on their own, so I had to supervise every time they went to the bathroom. Poor breakfast, rude staff, and no reply to my complaint. Not recommended.

Extremley Disappointing Stay – Not as Advertised

    rating12 Nov 2025

We booked what appeared to be a beautiful and comfortable room at Hotel Messner based on the photos online. However, upon arrival, we were directed to a separate building a short walk from the main reception. The room we received had two single beds instead of the double bed we had booked. While we understand that rooms sometimes differ from photos, this experience went far beyond acceptable. When I tried to plug in my phone charger, the ceiling light started flickering, which made me feel unsafe using the electrical outlets. The hairdryer cable was held together with electrical tape, and several lights caused the entire room’s electricity to flicker when switched on.The bathroom was equally disappointing — the shower did not drain at all, so I was unable to shower. My friends stayed in another room above ours, where the carpet, which was originally red, had turned brown along the walls. It looked so dirty that they didn’t even want to walk on it barefoot. We later discovered that the hotel promotes photos from its 4-star property but sells rooms from the 3-star section instead. When we mentioned our concerns to the reception, we were told that this was “normal for a 3-star hotel.” Regardless of star rating, basic cleanliness and safe, functional facilities should always be expected.Unfortunately, our experience was far below even the most modest standards. I would not recommend this hotel unless major improvements are made in maintenance, safety, and honesty in advertising.
