  AVOID THIS HOTELUnfortunately, our experience with this hotel was extremely poor. We had reserved two accommodation units, so our experience was not based on just a single room. From the moment we arrived, the hotel made a very bad impression. It looks outdated and, in our opinion, is in serious need of renovation.The only positive aspect was that the hotel manager agreed to give us a refund after we decided to leave due to the overall conditions and, most importantly, our concerns about the safety of our 15-month-old child.Our experience:We arrived before 2:00 PM with a small child and asked whether an early check-in would be possible. We were told at reception that early check-in would cost €40 per person.We returned at 2:00 PM, but our room was still not ready. After insisting that we needed a room, we finally received one after approximately 40 minutes of waiting.There was no baby cot in the room, even though we had reserved one in advance and had received confirmation. After our first visit to reception, nothing happened. We returned to reception again after 30 minutes, and the cot was finally delivered after a total wait of approximately 1.5 hours.The biggest problem was the baby cot itself. During this trip, we stayed in more than six hotels, and nowhere else did we receive anything remotely similar. It was a very old metal baby cot that looked like an old hospital cot, with metal bars and no appropriate soft protection, as well as a base that moved. We considered it completely unsuitable and unsafe for our 15-month-old child.We returned to reception and asked for a normal, safe, standard hotel baby cot. We were told that they did not see any problem with the cot they had provided.We also spoke with the hotel manager, who told us that they did not have another baby cot and considered the one provided to be acceptable. At that point, we decided to leave the hotel.The room itself was also very old and outdated.The bathroom, particularly the shower, felt very cheap and plastic and reminded us more of an airplane bathroom than a hotel bathroom.The carpet was dirty, with visible stains.The swimming pool was small and, in our opinion, poorly maintained.After leaving this hotel, we went to Hotel Elite, where, without any prior reservation, we received a lower price, a normal and safe baby cot, free parking, excellent tram connections to Venice and, most importantly, exceptionally friendly staff and a significantly higher standard of cleanliness and overall maintenance.The difference between the two experiences was enormous.Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this hotel, especially to families travelling with small children.

  Convenient Venice stopover with great staff but dated rooms and slow service

  We stayed here for one night as a family of four before visiting Venice, and overall I’d describe it as a perfectly adequate stopover rather than somewhere I’d choose for a longer stay.The highlight of our stay was the reception team. The lady who checked us in was exceptionally friendly and helpful. She suggested using the hotel’s shuttle service, which turned out to be an excellent tip. For a very reasonable price (around €15 per adult and €7 per child), we were taken by shuttle from the hotel to a water taxi, which then dropped us right by St. Mark’s Square. We quickly booked online using a QR code from reception and it made getting into Venice incredibly straightforward.Our family room was comfortable, with a double bed and a sofa bed already made up for the children. The beds and pillows were comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, and everyone slept well. However, the room itself felt quite dated. The décor looked as though it hadn’t changed since the 1990s/early 2000s, and the bathroom, with its older plastic fittings and light wood finishes, could really do with modernising. Nothing was broken or unclean, but it definitely lacked the feel of a modern four-star hotel. Whilst many hotels have a lovely boutique smell, the Novotel smells a bit like a urinal block. The hotel also has a swimming pool, which our children really enjoyed after a day sightseeing. That was a welcome bonus and certainly one of the better features.Unfortunately, the restaurant was the biggest disappointment. The staff were polite and friendly, particularly the chap who moved from the bar to serve in the restaurant, but the service was extremely slow despite the restaurant not being busy. We waited a long time before anyone offered drinks or a menu, and our drinks actually arrived after the food. We repeatedly had to chase things up, which made what should have been a relaxed family meal feel frustrating. We skipped the first course because it was clear it would take too long.The food itself was quite nice, but the slow service really let the hotel down. Interestingly, another guest we spoke to, who had been staying for several days, was quite damning about the restaurant service, so it didn’t seem to be a one-off.Breakfast the following morning was also very disappointing. Large tour groups arrived at the same time, leaving the buffet struggling to keep up. Food wasn’t replenished quickly enough, and the overall experience felt crowded and chaotic. The quality of the breakfast itself was fairly average.One suggestion for the hotel would be to install a few vending machines. The location is somewhat isolated, close to a main road, and while there’s a petrol station nearby, there isn’t a shop or other convenience shop for buying bottled water or snacks. Having a vending machine available would make life much easier for guests arriving late or returning after sightseeing.The location itself is a little unusual and feels more like an airport hotel than a city hotel. That said, thanks to the excellent shuttle service, reaching Venice was quick and hassle-free.Overall, I’d say this hotel works well as a one-night stopover before or after travelling, particularly if you’re looking for somewhere with parking and an easy connection into Venice. The helpful reception staff and convenient shuttle service were excellent, and the pool was a hit with our children. However, the dated rooms, disappointing restaurant service and average breakfast mean I don’t feel it offered particularly good value at around €166 per night. It’s perfectly acceptable for a short stay, but I probably wouldn’t choose it for a longer visit.

  This has been an incredible few days here at the Novotel. The rooms have been comfortable, clean and spacious for our family. The staff have been wonderful, welcoming us and attending to our every need. The hotel is within a 4 minute walk to the bus stop with a ten minute trip into town. From here we took a 10 minute train into Venice. Perfect for getting in and out of the city. One evening we ate dinner at the restaurant in the hotel, it was excellent and the met the tastes of both adults and children.The added bonus of the pool was brilliant and a special thank you and mention to Simon the pool guard. He was wonderful with our three year old, he took the time to chat to her, get her toys to play with in the water and showed her how to clean the pool and measure the temperature. He was a real asset to the hotel and made coming back to the hotel at the end of the day very special. Thank you Simon.Thank you to everyone at the Novotel hotel for a fantastic few days.
