Not refunded; could have been handled much better

    rating15 Jul 2023

I was scheduled to stay in this hotel Friday July 14- Sunday July 16 2023, with travel back to Tokyo for my flight home on Sunday. While I was on the train to Akita on Friday, JR East notified me that that because of an approaching historic rainstorm, they would not be responsible for my travel if they cancelled any shinkansen trains, and then they cancelled the reservation I had booked on the Ou line for Saturday. When I arrived at the Akita railway station, they were warning that trains the following day would be canceled, and I opted to leave Akita immediately before train travel ceased. I notified the third party booking company I used that I was not going to arrive at about 5pm on Friday, and they then passed on that information to the hotel, asking for a refund which was declined. I understand not refunding me for Friday- I cancelled past the time that was allowed. But to not refund me for Saturday night, with a day's advance notice, and when news coverage from Saturday is showing submerged cars in Akita, people being rescued because the river burst its banks, and there are no trains running for days- that crosses the line into irresponsible.

    Very happy with the stay

    rating11 Dec 2022

This was the first time that the family tried out the dormy inn brand of hotels here in Japan and we were really satisfied with the rooms and services. Check in was easy and fast. The front desk always had someone who could speak English which was really helpful. There was free serving of coffee and ramen in the evening as well which was greatly appreciated. Every dormy inn hotels also came with an in-house onsen which was really convenient. Rooms were well appropriated. They offered really good value for the rooms which was a big draw for us. From now on, I guess we will be booking rooms from this chain whenever we are in Japan for our family holidays.

Great Hotel with Exquisite Public Baths

    rating09 Nov 2022

This is a very nice, clean hotel with rooftop indoor and outdoor public sento baths. Rooms are small but clean with good noise blocking. Dormy Inn also gives you free ramen at 9pm in the cafeteria. I asked for two and the chef obliged. The hotel is fairly close to the station and across from the castle park. It was snowing when I went but not too heavy. Overall I would stay here again.

Great hotel located closely to some of Akita city's sightseeing spots

    rating03 Nov 2022

This is a great option for your stay in Akita. The hotel is located about a 10 minute walk from the train station but very close to some of the city's sightseeing spots. The room is not the largest but spacious enough with the shower, sink and toilet all separated which is pretty convenient in a small space. Plenty of free ammenities are on offer, plus every night there's free ramen available to all guests. We didn't make us of it since it starts a bit late but great option if you're still hungry late in the evening! They also have hot springs/onsen available to guests but be aware that they do not accept people with tattoos, so we couldn't make use of them unfortunately.

Dependable chain of identical hotels, inexpensive, clean.

    rating15 Feb 2020

Down to the rubber ducks floating in the rooftop outdoor public pool, this Dormy Inn was identical to others in which I have stayed, including the television in the sauna, the rubber ducks, the free bowl of soba at bedtime, the mediocre breakfast, the tiny room (there's barely space to leave your shoes by the door) with very small window and useless closet, the pajamas, hairdryer, available washing machine and clothes dryer. Convenient location, a step up from many business hotels, but certainly nothing luxurious.
