  Great stay at ANA Crowne Plaza Kobe

  I stayed here for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. The front office staff were very polite and friendly, always smiling and ready to help — just like the great Japanese hospitality you would expect.My room was clean and spacious, which is larger than many other hotels in Japan. The housekeeping team did a very good job keeping everything tidy.I also enjoyed the Club Lounge, which serves breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening Happy Hours with good variety of food and drinks.The location is very convenient, right next to Shin-Kobe Station, making it easy to take the Shinkansen or local trains.I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Kobe.   Disgusting - carpets and furniture were filthy. We were told we would be in a renovated part of the hotel and then constantly gas lit when we showed management these pictures. We changed after one night (of which we didn't unpack anything) because we arrived close to midnight and didn't want our things in the dirty environment. The air conditioning comes out of the bedside table - at the rate of a hand held fan. Save yourself from this unfortunate experience.   Well for starters the room is very small ..no place to move if u have 2 suitcases ..the bathroom is almost tiny ...only advantage is that is connected to the Shinkobe station if you prefer to travel by train ...   Avoid If You Expect Clean, Modern Japanese Standards

  If you’re coming from the U.S. expecting a typical “Crowne Plaza” experience, prepare to be seriously disappointed.This hotel feels like it hasn’t been properly updated in decades. The rooms are outdated, and the bathroom is the biggest issue. The bathtub has visible gaps around it, and water clearly gets behind it. The result? A persistent moldy, musty smell that hits you the moment you walk in. It’s not subtle—it’s the kind of smell that makes you question the cleanliness of the entire room.The toilet situation is also a shock if you’ve experienced modern Japanese hotels. Instead of the high-tech, clean, comfortable toilets Japan is famous for, this one feels old, worn, and in my case, had an unpleasant odor. It completely breaks the expectation of what you think you’re getting in Japan.The temperature control was another major problem. The room was uncomfortably hot, and there is no individual thermostat. The entire building is centrally controlled, so you’re stuck with whatever they decide. There’s a tiny, outdated knob that looks like it’s from the 1950s, but it barely does anything. The only way to cool the room down was to open a small vent panel (literally felt like a doggy door) to let cold outside air in. This is not what anyone expects from a modern hotel.Location is another downside. While it’s convenient to the Shinkansen station, the area itself is dead. There’s nothing enjoyable within walking distance—no atmosphere, no energy, nothing that makes you want to explore. It feels isolated and lifeless, especially at night.To be clear, this is not about luxury vs budget. This is about basic standards. The hotel simply feels old, tired, and poorly maintained compared to what you can easily get elsewhere in Japan for the same price.If you’re used to U.S. hotel standards or expect a clean, modern experience, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else—preferably in a more central area like Sannomiya or the harbor.Japan has incredible hotels.
