Great location, staff impersonal and cold.

    rating11 Jun 2026

Good location. Can walk to Pontocho, Nishiki Market and Gion is just across the river. Family Mart is a short walk. A couple of subway option a 5-10 minute walk away. We booked the Premium suite which is on the top 9th floor of the hotel. I think there is only one of these in the hotel.Loved the room, very spacious with a view of the mountains. Separate bedroom, beds were comfy, walk in wardrobe, large separate lounge room area. There was also a butlers pantry behind doors with a sink, microwave and fridge with freezer. The Bathroom was large with a Sauna, nice bath and make up desk. The toilet was separate, near the entrance. There were 3 TV’s in the suite but they are not smart TV’s. A couple of English friendly satellite Chanel’s ( BBC news / CNN I think). If you want to Chromecast / DIY streaming you will need to connect a device to the HDMI port. For Room cleaning there is a magnetic sign you need to put on your door - if you forget you won’t get your room serviced. The lobby longe area is good with comfy seating, tourist maps and a coffee machine. Breakfast was so so. Was not a fan. Very very busy. Food okay but nothing special, coffee terrible. What I really did not like about this hotel was the self machine check in. I get it, as it’s a very busy hotel and looked like they cater to tourists groups. While we were checking in, on machines, there was a long reception desk nearby with lots of staff. Doing nothing. Not one of them came over to see if they could assist. It was the same when I went to the front desk to enquire about a couple of things - very cold.Very impersonal. Japan is known for its friendly and hospitable helpfulness. The Cross Hotel on check In and Out was the opposite. Would I stay here again ? - the room and location was great but the experience was not. So no. I was back in Kyoto 3 weeks ago and chose to stay at the Fauchon Hotel instead.

    Fantastic Location in Kyoto

    rating08 Jun 2026

We stayed here 8 nights at Cross Hotel which was a good length of time to stay in Kyoto. Location: Fantastic location, such a good area where you can easily walk to so many places, great restaurants, shops, Nishiki markets, transport, Gion, Pontcho Alley and temples etc. Room: Our room was the deluxe king room and it was clean and comfortable, bigger than normal but was surprised and disappointed that there are NO bedside tables next to the king bed so had to use a chair nearby or floor for a CPAP machine. The position of the power points was weird as it was above the bed behind all the pillows which felt a bit unsafe to me. We asked for a room on a higher floor which was a good idea as it can be a bit noisy but at night it wasn't too bad. Housekeeping can be slow but it was good. Towels were very thin. The bathroom set up was a bit strange for us as we weren't sure if you were meant to stand in the bath tub and shower or stand on the floor for a shower, the shower head was in the middle of both and didn't stay into position when you try to adjust it. This was different to other hotels that is all. The toilet room was separate in a very small room but got used to it. Bed was comfortable but firm but got used to it pretty quick probably due to be so tired. Plenty of pillows provided which some were great some weren't but better than other hotels we have stayed at in Japan. We had a room on the 9th floor and that was great, didn't hear much noise so it was great. Breakfast: The breakfast was good, lots of selection of all sorts of food, mostly pretty good quality and partner loved the icecream dispenser. There was a pretty good selection of international and Japanese food, surprised to see even prawns and tiramisu for breakfast as well as ice cream, we didn't see any of that anywhere else. If you can eat breakfast later in the morning do so as early in the morning gets very busy. Staff: The staff were friendly and helpful and we had no problem with language. Organising luggage transfer back to Tokyo was great, easy and reasonable cost. Overall we did enjoy our stay, the things we mentioned above could probably improve but we certainly loved the location the most. I would stay again!

    Misses the mark

    rating29 Apr 2026

We’re staying here now. Location is good but that’s about it.After our time in Tokyo, this hotel, its customer service culture, and overall vibe are very disappointing. We feel like an unwelcomed guest. 1. Very poor quality breakfast offerings (think 1970’s cafeteria with poorest vendors) — putting out a lot of food doesn’t make it any better. Slop is slop. After paying for breakfast plans for both of our rooms here, we’ll instead go out to eat for breakfast to find a welcoming environment with quality food. Avoid eating here.2. The toilet room in our superior king room is SMALL. I’m not exaggerating when I reference an airplane bathroom. At least the airplane bathroom has proper towels to wipe hands. There’s NO room to move, properly wipe, etc (IYKYK). Toilet paper is VERY thin (we heard this so brought our own). It belongs in a pre-school with very small children. If you’re over 5 feet/100 pounds, you’ll be in for a challenge.3. Poor quality towels and thread-bare linens. Linens and pajamas smell old, unwashed — like a college shirt that needs to be retired. No washcloths. Shower room smells dirty and moldy. 4. Lots of hotel signage shaming you in the breakfast area— telling you what eating behavior is rude. Also, rude “guidance” in other parts of hotel. Handwashing cues all over. I’m ALL for hygiene, conservation and social awareness. But not in a low-performance hotel that is domination-forward. Just why?I am honestly shocked — it all feels very un-Japanese and I’m sad their poor hospitality will impact our trip. I researched Kyoto hotels diligently.Should have gone with the Hilton garden inn.

OK hotel in a good location

    rating27 Apr 2026

Well this was supposed to be a highly recommended hotel. But I think it wasnt for us.Check in.I didn't like the assisted self check in, I like service and hospitality, not sure how much hotels save by installing these self check in kiosks.Location was great very close to everything in walking distance.RoomsIssue with the cleanliness, we found bunches of hair around the beds and it turned us off, also they don't clean the rooms daily. It was basic and sufficient.StaffHit and miss, the lady who organised our luggage transfer to Osaka was a bit curt but I ignored it.Overall given the price I paid it was fine, but I wouldnt stay again.

    Overcrowded, busy and impersonal

    rating02 Apr 2026

Ok experience overall but wouldn’t recommend. Anything after this reasonably pointless but the location is fine, rooms are clean but there’s a general impression they want to keep costs as low as possible. I had to insist on water, breakfast is adequate and if you forget to put the magnetic instruction on your door the room won’t get cleaned . The bar should be open at night but is closed for some reason. The street is noisy and woke me every night at different times, seems to be a popular street for all night drinkers.
