    Such a comfortable trip!

This is my first time enjoying onsen in Kyoto. The host is very kind and friendly. From Kyoto station, you need to get on Kawaramachi line to Kokusaikakan station theb get off and take bus #16-17-19 heading to ohara station. From here you can call to the host and ask for free shuttle bus which will bring you on the endline. I had arrived to Ohara station so late due to delay of flight at around 8.30 PM. However, i still get chance to ride on shuttle bus and enjoy my trip. The atmosphere is very quiet and comfortable. Highly recommended!

Classic Old School Ryokan and Onsen in a beautiful mountain setting

    rating21 Dec 2019

This was a very special A++ experience. Anyone who reviews it less highly is looking for the "picture perfect honeymoon ryokan/ onsen with private bath set to more cinematic standards at $500+ a night." We had cooked-at-the-table dinner, onsen with of course all robes and towels included, traditional Japanese room with garden view, traditional breakfast with a yet more beautiful garden view -- all meals in traditional dining rooms (and with private dining for larger parties) -- complimentary tea on arrival and free shuttle to the bus station (tho we chose the gorgeous 15 minute walk thru small farms and along the river) ALL for about $100 a head. They age their own miso in house and are VERRRY accommodating to dietary requirements. And yes tattoo friendly as well. We were two Dads w/ their ten year old daughters and we will remember it a lifetime. Yes there are shared baths... but buck up people!!! this is MAGICin the mountains a scant 25 minutes by cab or hour by bus from Kyoto.

    A bit rude

    rating05 Nov 2019

This hotel and Onsen is in the countryside and there was a long walk from the bus stop to the hotel. We were exhausted by the walk and the heat. We called and said we would be a bit late. We got a rude welcome when we came and then they served dinner. It was Suki Yaki and it was not the best I have had. We liked the room and we sat outside on the balcony and had some drinks. Later the staffs were much nicer and we got a small bottle of wine because it was my birthday. Outside the cicadas were very loud, but that added to the experience. For our purpose this place was alright but I wouldn’t recommend this for people that seek a real ryokan experience. There are better places around, unfortunately they were fully booked. We spent the days walking to temples and shrines, which is plentiful in the area. ohara1126, 広報担当マネージャー at Ohara no Sato, responded to this review Thank you for coming to stay.I have a shuttle bus service from Ohara bus stop to my Minshuku. I will pick you up if you contact me from the bus stop.My inn is Minshuku, not Ryokan. There is a big difference in terms of service. Minshuku is basically all services self-service. I write an explanation on each reservation site.I am sorry that I could not satisfy you. I will do my best if I get the next opportunity.Thank you.

The linens and rooms reeked. We sprayed everything down as much as possible but it was horrid. The bathrooms were closed during certain times for showering so you better make sure you're back in time. Then, getting anywhere from the onsen was a major pain. We were unable to be accommodated by their van... not sure why they couldn't drive us to town... so we walked to a bus stop quite a ways away. I did not find the stay relaxing at all. If anything, it was added stress when we came back to it at the end of the day. I seriously regret having stayed here for 3 days. ohara1126, 広報担当マネージャー at Ohara no Sato, responded to this review Thank you for coming to stay.I read your review. Sorry about the futon. Please let me know the room number because I want to check it and replace it.About other things. My inn is Minshuku. You are mistaken for a modern, convenient and comfortable Ryokan or hotel in front of the station. Located in the old countryside of Japan, the old Minshuku does not have the services and facilities of a hotel in front of the station. I have written it in various reviews of other customers. You can get a lot of information "just a little bit".I do not write anywhere that there is a transfer to the city. I write that I can only go to the bus terminal in Ohara. For other things, you should check the details on the site before booking or read more from other people's reviews before booking. It may have been an inconvenient place for you to stay 3 nights, but information about the place will come out as soon as you read a few other customer reviews. Please make a reservation after reading other customers' reviews before making a reservation.Thank you.

Great place to relax - tattoo friendly

    rating26 Jul 2019

Went here after some busy days in Tokyo. I've never been to an Onsen before, so this was a new experience for me and my friends. Lovely "homey" feel about og all, and as it is located some 30 min outside Kyoto, quite peaceful. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the shuttlebus to Ohara Bus station is a big plus. We used both taxi and bus to get around. Taxi costs approx 4000JPY from Kyoto to the resort, or you could hop on a bus for 510JPY.Something that was new for med upon arriving Japan, was a pretty strict policy regarding tattoos in these kind of places. However that isn't the case with Ohara no Sato. I've got a sleeve on my lower right arm, but this posed no problem. Though it's allowed with tattoos, I would still reccomend covering it up when you're in the bath with local residents.
