Great stay next to Kyoto station

    rating11 May 2026

Like many Japanese hotels, the rooms are nothing special. However it was comfortable. No water bottles supplied to the rooms.Nonetheless the hotel offers its guests many freebies. Breakfast outstanding and very affordable dinner prices. I would totally recommend this hotel and stay here again.

What a dispappointment. No japanese standard and hospitality at all. More like a tourist trap.

As someone who works in the hotel industry myself, I was simply disappointed about almost everything. But first, let's try to find some positive aspects about this accommodation. The free drinks in the lobby and the location. It's only a 10 Minutes walk from the main train station. We were five people in total, my parents (around 70 years old), my sister, my husband and I (around 40 years old). At check-in, the first thing I had to do was signing a document stating that we were prohibited from being together in the public areas of the hotel. We were f.e. not allowed to sit together in the lounge at any time. They argued, that 5 people could be very loud and noisy and disturb other hotel guests. So please, if you are a family of 5, you have to leave one child at home or better choose another accommodation! :-)Furthermore there was written on a sign on the lounge table, that all hotel guests are prohibited from drinking or eating while sitting on the sofa, even though the free drinks bar was right next to it. So basically nobody ever sat there. In general, there were many rules and signs everywhere, about what someone should or shouldn't do. They made us feel like some sort of criminals. We did not feel welcomed at any time during our 4 night stay. The rooms in the main building are old and outdated. Don't trust the fake pictures you see on the internet! You were able to hear the music from the lobby quite well in the room. We had to go down every night to ask if they could turn down the volume of the music. (but remember, my 70 year old parents and we were not allowed to sit together in the lounge because the five of us could have been to loud!)Our room was very dirty when I checked in, lots of hair in the bathroom and dust everywhere. They were kind enough to offer us another room in the annex building, although it meant that I had to make a double downgrade from my original room category, of course with no refund. The annex building is more modern, but you were able to hear the elevator going up and down until late night and from early in the morning again. And the thick layer of dust already found it's way to the new rooms. In the end, we wondered why the hotel room did cost so much when we, as guests, were treated like criminals and received no service at all. We paid around 600 Swiss Francs for 4 nights per room and there was not even room cleaning service included during our whole stay. No wonder there is dust and dirt everywhere. They gladly take your money but they don't really want you to stay with them. We traveled through Japan for 3 weeks, stayed at many places and all of them were very wonderful besides the SAKURA TERRACE THE GALLERY in Kyoto.

    Not for non-smokers

    rating11 Nov 2025

Friendly staff, convenient location, super close to Kyoto station and food etc. However, I hated the constant smell of cigarettes. If you're staying in the south wing, the smokers area is right at the entrance. So you smell smoke every time you're in the lobby, going to the onsen or laundry and if sitting on your balcony. Smokers area needs to be moved. Or at least request the north wing.

    Fantastic stay! Amazing perks!

    rating24 Aug 2025

What a delightful hotel! Excellent value for money and so many perks! Every night we were allowed a free drink from the bar- which made a lovely atmosphere-They also had live music playing as well. They had a lounge with massage chairs, tea and coffee making facilities all free of charge. We were welcomed with an ice lolly when we arrived and the rooms were spacious for Japan and clean. Noticed some comments about no bottled water in rooms… however we could fill bottles up from the cold water tap in the lounge which is much better for the environment! Would definitely recommend this hotel-excellent location to Kyoto station and 7/11.
