    Mixed Feelings

    rating16 Oct 2025

Booked this hotel because it purportedly was one of the only 2 hotels in the restricted Kamikochi area with natural hot spring water, and had just been renovated in 2024.Our first choice, Kamikochi Imperial we ruled out because they had no onsen facilities. We chose our room because it was described as a twin room with scenic view bath, as advertised by JAPANiCAN, thinking that we had a private bath. To our dismay, when we asked to see the room assigned to us on the second floor (and we are glad we did), we found that it was a regular bath tub placed alongside the wall looking out to the view outside, not the kind of prefilled private onsen bath we had mistakenly believed it to be. From this and our other experience with the Century Southern website in Tokyo, we have learnt that it pays to be extra careful to ascertain that what they say on the website is really what you are getting. In the end, we chose to pay an extra 12,000 yen per night to upgrade our room to a similar sized one on the third floor which had been fully renovated, in contrast to the original one which we were told was only partially renovated. The check in process was also marred by the inflexibility of the front desk staff. We were there at 1.30 pm, just half an hour before check in, but we were told we had to absolutely wait till 2 pm before we could access the room (and not because the room was not ready yet) and also avail ourselves of complimentary drinks at the cafe. A service orientated hotel would have considered letting us have our welcome drink whilst we were kept waiting, especially as the prices for this hotel don’t come cheap. The best thing that can be said for the room was the view of the scenery outside, and the handy full length ledge along that wall. Breakfast was decent. Dinner- French the first night and Japanese fusion the second, whilst good was not remarkably so, again consdering the half board price we pay.Plus point is that the public bath is new and spotlessly clean, with great loungers for after onsen relaxation. They do offer two other public bath rooms that can be rented for an hour each time for private usage. Because it is in a no-car zone (apart from certain hours), we walked to the hotel from Kamikochi Imperial after lunching there for the start of our stay, and similarly walked to the Imperial for lunch on checkout, before taking a nice stroll to the bus terminal. One of the best things the hotels in this area do is to provide a same day luggage forwarding service, which we took advantage of, by having our cabin bags transported to the Kamikochi Bus Terminal from where we took our highway express bus back to Tokyo, freeing us to fully enjoy our post lunch walk to the terminal. If a public bath/onsen facility is not a requirement, there are other hotels similarly with good views of the Azusa river one can consider, not forgetting the grand dame of them all, the Kamikochi Imperial Hotel. But if you choose Lemeiesta, avoid the second floor rooms if you can, because passersby (of which there are many) can look into the room.

    Heaven in Kamikochi.

    rating12 May 2025

An absolutely spectacular experience in every way. Of course, Kamikochi is spectacular and the views from the hotel: of the mountains, the forest, the river, and the monkeys are otherworldly. But this hotel shines above the rest in terms of service, friendliness of the staff, cleanliness, and organization. The breakfast is good with many options, though merely average in taste and quality. The dinners are amazing in every way - a true white table cloth, 5 star experience with delicious food and a great wine selection. They were extremely helpful with our food restrictions. The rooms are very clean with great beds though a little tight due to an extra chair and table. The lounge wear is superb and comfortable. Note that the hallways and dining room are very cold at night. The Bento lunches boxes are disappointing.

Best onsen + breakfast / lunch experience in Kamikochi

    rating05 Oct 2024

We did not book an overnight stay but we availed their onsen + breakfast set and onsen + lunch set over a two day periodOne of the best decisions we have ever made in this trip. Their onsen is very clean, has an outdoor pool and their lounge have massage chairsThe breakfast buffet spread has a lot of options and is damn worth it. Their fish, handmade fresh tofu and soba is amazing. They also have an omelette station if you fancy thatTheir set lunch has given me the privilege of tasting one of the best wagyu steaks I have tasted during my 9 month stay here in JP (so far). It is so good I forgot to tske a pic. The chocolate cake is decadent yet not overwhelmingly sweet. They use Noritake bone china in all of the dishes, with a Kamikochi design to boot. So elegant!10/10 will try again though it appears that they no longer offer an onsen to go with the breakfast buffet as per their website

    Excellent Hotel in Kamikochi

    rating05 May 2022

I give this hotel an "Excellent" simply because we loved it. If you are in Kamikochi and you stay here I hope you love it too. I recommend that you get off the bus at the Imperial Hotel and walk to the hotel from there. It is much closer than the main bus station. The hotel is right in front of the river and is surrounded by nature. It is not a high traffic tourist spot. Amazing place. The day we arrive it was raining and cold. The hotel offer ponchos, umbrellas, etc...hot drinks and snacks in the lounge almost all day. We arrive at about 10:00 to drop our bags and did a pre check-in (check in time was 14:00), but we came back at 13:00 since it was cold and raining and my wife and 8 year old did not want to walk anymore. However our room was ready so we settled in and loved it. The room was a corner so it was bright, and we had a view of the river and a tree with birds in it. Great. The onsen opened at 15:00 and felt great. It has an inside and outside bath. Not big but just felt perfect. Everything was very clean and well maintained.Dinner and breakfast buffet were just great. My daughter has allergies and her food was perfect. The service was always friendly and excellent.Night time stars were amazing. Kamikochi is beautiful.Great hotel in Kamikochi.

Gem of a hotel in Kamikochi national park

    rating02 Nov 2018

I was visiting Kamikochi Park from the 24-26th of October with friends. We were here to hike and I chose lemeista hotel because it was one of only 2 hotels in the park that had an onsen. The other , the Kamikochi Onsen hotel was just next to it.Its not convenient to get to as one had to hike/ walk 20 minutes from the nearest bus stop which is at the Imperial Kamikochi hotel. One could also hike from the bus terminal but it is a longer hike. But The loveliness of this hotel makes it worth the walk! The front desk staff are very polite and the service is good. A few of them speak good English. There is a large welcoming lobby with free flow of coffees, tea and soft drinks from 5.30 pm onwards . The dinner on the first night is French style and the roast beef was par excellence! The second night was Japanese which was also very good standard. The buffet breakfast was a choice of western and Japanese . They even served honey melons for breakfast which was very sweet .The onsen was good but the quality of shampoo and conditioners were not as good as those in the Hokkaido onsens. ( they used pola). However the redeeming grace is the presence of 4 massage chairs outside the onsens which provided a finishing touch to the onsen baths. Loved, loved this extra touch .Overall, I would recommend my friends to stay here .Ps:All our rooms had a lovely view of the asuza river. The memory of the river view stays etched in my mind !
