In need of an serious update.

    rating17 Dec 2025

Not a great stay at the Tokyo Garden Palace. While the location is just a 5 minute walk to Akihabara, the hotel feels tired and in need of an serious update. Mind you, this is a business hotel that is quite dated and looks like what i stayed in during the 80's.(Retro vibes but not in a good way)The major issue, however, was the air-conditioning as stated by other reviewers. Despite being set to the coldest setting, the unit only ever blew out warm and stale air. Its lucky that I read the reviews from other guests and managed to get a gap open in the window. This impacted our ability to rest properly. For the price, basic climate control should be a given. Cannot recommend the hotel until this is resolved, even though its in a great location.

Nice pictures but that is all they can serve

    rating06 Aug 2025

The Welcome was great. But to park the car somewhere down not knowing how to come back did let me feel totally lost and started the consistency of my stay. Staff at the front desk was not able to speak english and so we waited 1h to get our room seeing that we as family did not get a connecting door. Complain did not help. You feel that the room is old and saw better times but it was very clean. Minibar was not equipped and we had to ask for towels. Dinner charged us 15 euro for one beer in a restaurant that saw better times. Restaurant closed at 11 and front desk was not stuffed anymore?! I had in mind this is minimal for 5 stars to have 7/24.Staff was very jung and i have impression that the system of the hotel to save money. In total i rate it as a good 3 star hotel with the comment that rooms can be renovated soon. We quitted the stay and switched hotel

    Good for what you get

It tries to be very upscale and it is a nice looking hotel. It is cheapish ($160 night ) and worth the price and near enough to both central city and Ueno.It does NOT cater to tourists. Most staff speak little or no english. Therefore they are not particularly helpful ( can not call taxi or help with problem) They keep all rooms the same temperature, my wife was sweltering because they turned the AC off in October.Still for the price and location, I would recommend this place. It is clean and upscale and located nicely

Very good hotel, but poor Wi-fi

    rating30 Jan 2019

The hotel itself is a good deal. Rooms of average size for Japan's standards, with decent furnitures. Nothing super special, but the location itself is extremely convenient. At less than 5 minutes walking by the Tokyo Metro and JR stations, and at reasonably walking distance from Akihabara and Ueno.Breakfast was really good, with both western and traditional dishes available. Cleaning was okay (+1 for the option to have your sheet not changed with the the "Eco-cleaning" sticker for the door). The hotel has unfortunately a poor wi-fi (at least on 8th floor): be prepared to that.

Kinda old & no air con

    rating01 Dec 2018

Hotel is big and lobby is big. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. We managed to have early check in at 12pm for extra 3000YEN. Room is rather old, the only room they refurbish is probably the toilet which looks quite new. Carpet is old and I think quite dusty. The room has no air condition! The other two hotels we stayed at has air condition working very well. Hotel staff was helpful in opening our room window though to get some cold air in. But still. It says they have air con on agoda so that was rather disappointing. And the kettle to boil water is old school style. But overall room is kept clean. Hotel is pretty near to metro and JR station about 8 mins walk.
