    First visit to Tokyo

    rating31 Mar 2019

We are staying here as a family with our 12 and 9 year old. We booked a room for 4 and have a 6 bedded bunk room. Beds are really comfortable, showers and bathrooms clean. Vanity area with hairdryers available. Can help yourselves to tea and coffee. Lounge with some cooking facilities- hot water for ramen, fridge in room. Great fun. Staff very friendly. Highly recommend- would very happily stay here again.

    Okey but not much more

    rating29 Jan 2019

The staff are as almost all Japanese very kind and helpful. The rooms are pretty small but clean and with all necessities. The hostel is located very centrally in Shinjuku which is a really good spot to live in if you are visiting Tokyo. The staff where happy to help but it could at some points be tricky to communicate with them as English is not to commonly know in Japan. The biggest problem was the temperature in the hallways and bathrooms. I visited Tokyo and Hikari in January and the hallway (which you have to pass to get to the bathroom and shower) was freezing. So as long as we weren’t in our room or down in the lobby we were really cold. Other wise it was okey but nothing more.

Great location, good stay for the $$

Staff - 5/5Location - 5/5. 15 mins walk to Shinjuku station and 7-8 mins to smaller Yamanote stations.Amenities - 3/5. Mainly just a location for a bed. No real common areas to socialize, but there is a lounge on main floor with kitchen, couches and TV. Each floor has a couch, but not really an area to congregate. Beds - 4/5. I'm an easy sleeper so I have higher tolerance for a crappier bed. However, this was comfortable enough to have a great nights sleep. The location of the hostel is the main appeal for me as it is walking distance to a lot of Shinjuku attractions and hot spots. It's a easy train ride away to other popular wards like Shibuya, Harajuku, etc. It's more of a quiet hostel so don't anticipate being wild with other guests here.

    Best of Two Worlds

    rating19 Aug 2018

Ok, so let me qualify my title a little; Hikari House is quaint little hostel tucked away in what I would say is THE most Korean quarter of Tokyo, so don't be surprised if you hear strains of the latest K-pop hits amidst a smorgasbord of dakgalbi, samgyeopsal and chimaek joints - mostly written in Japanese. You'll never be far away from a bbq joint (there's one attached to the hostel) so if that's your thing, you'll DEFINITELY love Hikari house. But there's a lot of other stuff to love - the location is amazing, for one. 5 minutes from Shin-Okubo station, 3 minutes to Don Quijote (aka 24-hour souvenir and snack shopping heavne), 2 minutes to the nearest 7-eleven, and around just 8 minutes to the pulsating, vibrant, neon-filled heart of Shinjuku. Come out of the hostel, turn left, head across the main road, walk down the lane beside the Nakau 24-hour eatery, and straight ahead for a bit, and you'll be in Kabuki-cho. The service is awesome too; the staff I had the pleasure of interacting with spoke English, as well as Korean and Japanese and even some Mandarin. Rooms were super-clean, well-lit and comfortable - there's a fridge and water facilities on every floor, so you can fill up your bottles and such before you head out. There's a also a self-service laundry (no dryer though - it was summer when I came, so I didn't actually need a dryer, but if YOU do, turn right out of the hostel and walk down a minute or two, and there's a 24-hour laundry there with a dryer). Washrooms and toilets are shared, and there's a men's only shower facility on the roof level (they're a bit exposed, which is why they're not unisex). Everything's clean, neat and organised, perfect for long or short stays. Bring your own towels if you can, or you can rent them there. Toiletries are provided though, so no need to lug yours around unless you're picky. For just around RM100 per person per night (that's about USD25), I'm definitely staying here again next time I need an accessible and comfortable stay in this part of Tokyo. I hope you will, too!

    Great staff

    rating30 May 2018

I stayed a few nights in this hostel last month trying to stay away of capsule rooms (not my thing) and I was SO happy with my choice. I arrived very late at night and the staff was very kind and welcoming, they even allowed me to spend my first night in a different room by myself so I would not wake up other guests with my late arrival (it was one of my concerns). The staff are Korean, and they speak various languages, which made communication very easy. Besides that, the beds have private curtains, everything is VERY clean, and it's under 15min from the subway station. There are many convenience stores and a Don Quijote near by.I'm going back to Tokyo next month and I'll be staying there again!Wifi is spotty at night.
