Location is not ideal. But overall stay was pleasant.

We chose this hotel as it seemed to have 3 pax to a room, which is not common for Japan small hotel room phenomenon. It was really good size and well equipped ! Enough space to walk around. Toilet was small and a challenge to hang towels and clothes. Housekeeping was not daily (which I was ok) and towels were replaced daily. Surroundings got very quiet (hardly traffic) and opposite a Lawson where we went to for daily breakfast. Within walking distance to Sumida river, good view of Tokyo Sky tree. About 20mins walk to train station or could take bus. Closing down in Jun, though.

Good stay for what you pay, suggest for a short stay.

Overall good for the value that you pay for the hotel, rooms are ok. Amenities are provided. Good they provide night gowns as well. Hotel staff is very helpful, thats a plus. The room looked very old, bathroom the same. Big of smell around in the corner.

We weren't smiling after our visit

    rating14 Aug 2020

We stayed in 5 hotels during our stay in Japan. This one was a disappointment. We got attitude from the staff. The rooms reeked of smoke. When I went down to exchange my room I was told the place was sold out (didn't believe it). Rooms were your typical tiny rooms and old-fashioned. Yes, the rooms were cheap, but I would have to place this hotel way below a Motel 6. Our visit was before the pandemic so masks and hand sanitizers were not required.

    Very good hotel

Very good hotel, great value for money. The location is alright, about 10 minute walk to a metro stop. The service was great, with room cleaning everyday. Would recommend this hotel if you just need a good and cheap place to sleep, whilst exploring Tokyo.

Clean and quiet budget hotel that I have a soft spot for

    rating27 Jun 2019

In 2001, my first trip to Japan, I stayed in this Asukusa hotel (different management—then called the “Seventh Sky”) and had a memorable (and romantic) two weeks because my “sweetie” was staying there with a group. Since then I’ve come to Tokyo often and stayed in more expensive hotels, but this time for a four-night stay I decided to stay in its successor, the Smile Hotel, as a bit of nostalgia. I don’t regret it. Although it’s been spiffed up, it looks much the same inside and out and brought back many nostalgic memories. It’s still a budget hotel with small plain rooms, but it is clean and quiet with a decent shower, bed, little fridge, and TV, and the A/C and wi-fi worked fine. It still only has one small elevator for 10 floors and and an opaque window, and you might want to bring an extension cord and a few extra hangers, but the price was right. It’s a short walk from the Ginza Line and the Asakusa Kannon Temple—and not far from the Tokyo Sky tower (tallest tower in the world).
