So good I stayed there again

    rating30 May 2026

This was my second time staying at the Richmond, but since the last one it had been refurbished, so I was intrigued to see what had changed. In short the biggest difference was the lobby, which is a bit more spacious now.I was in room 1006 which was a Precious Single, with a Skytree view. As Japanese city hotels go it was suitably sized and had just enough room to get things done. There was also some minimal space to hang a few items. I don’t believe the bathrooms were touched as part of the refurbishment. So there’s still a powerful enough shower and a decent sized tub for a soak. Plus the non-misting mirror, which I was happy to see still around. The main thing that I didn’t like was the safe wasn’t big enough to hold an iPad and, of course, was in the darkest part of the room next to the door. The fridge hum was also slightly annoying at night. For ecological/economic reasons by default the rooms are now not cleaned every day and the towels won’t be changed. But as I was only there for three nights then this wasn’t a problem. Another small change for the same reasons is that they no longer provide small bottles of water each day, so now you get a jug which can be refilled from the water dispenser by the lifts. My room had breakfast included which had a good selection of Western and Japanese items. Like a lot of hotels nowadays there is a small coffee machine which does take a small while to create something. Generally not a big problem unless you get a few people in a queue. The dining area doesn’t look too dissimilar to before the refurbishment. The staff were all friendly and helpful and could mostly speak English if your Japanese doesn’t stretch that far. They also quickly set up my luggage forwarding which was very helpful. The hotel is in a pretty good location as you can get to Sensō-ji temple, all the shops and the metro within a few minutes walk. That’s one of the reasons I came back and would quite happily come back again.

Richmond Asakusa - GREAT PLACE TO STAY!

Great mid-sized hotel in a prime area of Asakusa. This hotel is close to everything and has very easy access to trains that will take you most anywhere in the Tokyo area. Highly recommend!

Terrific location. Affordable. Some rooms with excellent views is the Senso-ji areas. Very friendly, helpful and kind staff. At least fifty restaurants within a ten minute walk. Has a neighborhood feel. Ten minute walk to the Asakusa Station.

    In need of a refurbishment

If you are after a budget hotel, this might be for you. Before my stay, I sent a number of emails to the hotel regarding information about my booking, but they never responded once, which is very frustrating. It's in a great location and there are plenty of restaurants. It's also only a stone's throw from the Sensō-ji temple which can get very crowded. The rooms are ok, a bit dated and the bed is only a double, so small. There are no amenities in the room, you must get them from reception. There is a kettle and a fridge and a pressing machine to press your pants which is old. The bathroom is quite small wich has a shower/bath combination, but it's ok. The sleep quality was ok, the air-conditioning was quiet. The pillows weren't the best either.Breakfast was very ordinary, not a great selection and the quality was average. It's very small and opens at 6:30 am, I would get there early as it would get busy and you will have to wait. There were no knives either.
