    Awful rooms, not for western guests

    The building itself was stunning and the food excellent, the staff spoke English well but the room was dreadful, no shower facilities, a dirty concrete balcony facing out on a noisy service yard and without chairs. We very much got the impression that western guests weren’t really welcome so skipped the meditation and got out as soon as possible

    My wife and I stayed 2 nights here and had a wonderful experience. The food was incredible and all the people were very nice. The room was very comfortable and it was nice to have a bathroom attached. This is a good place to stay for exploring the area.

    I stayed here for two days and I think I may have been the only guest. I was upgraded to the suite, which was a lovely large room, private bath, and a pretty seating area with a garden view. The food was absolutely amazing....beautifully presented and incredibly tasty (and you can order alcohol, which was a nice surprise). The location is great. The temple areas across the road were serene and lovely and when you go early in the morning (after breakfast) you are there before the tourists. While English wasn't spoken by many of the people there, we managed to muddle through due to the kindness of the people who are working there.

    Stunning Garden Views, very peaceful temple. The Temple is in a very convenient place in the city of Koya-san in the mountains of Wakayama Prefecture. Their room was comfortable and breakfast and dinner meals very delicious. Their morning meditation was very relaxing, informative and enlightening. The Buddhist Monks explained clearly about many aspects of Zen meditation. Highly recommend

    My daughter and I stayed in Sojuin for one night. The place has an excellent location, and very clean and well-organized facilities and rooms. (We had our own toilet and a sink)The food is served at the tables with dividers. So everyone has privacy and can enjoy the meal. We really appreciated that touch.They speak enough English and are very attentive to the guests. The place is warm. This is very important because we slept on the floor and it's cold in the mountains in the winter. It isn't big and you get personal care. We were met with a nice cup of hot ginger tea and a cookie. Also for 100 yen, you can buy excellent coffee there (compare with 500 yen for a very questionable coffee in cafes.) Strongly recommend staying in Soujiin.
