Shameful refund refusal during war emergency!

    rating03 Mar 2026

I had booked a estay in Petra for an unforgettable trip, but the ongoing war led to the complete cancellation of my flights and made the area high-risk. I immediately requested a free cancellation due to force majeure. The hotel denied everything: “Jordan is safe and the airport is operational,” they replied, ignoring that international flights were canceled and traveling there is impossible! They charged me the full amount without mercy, zero empathy from customer service. In global crisis situations, this is unacceptable. Irresponsible hotel—avoid at all costs!

Reasonably priced room for one night and close to Petra entrance but unfriendly staff

    rating22 Nov 2023

Location Located about 10 minutes walk from Petra visitor centre but up a steep hill. While it is close, after walking in Petra one still would prefer to drive to visitor centre where there is free parking anyway. Primarily booked this to location but given I decided to drive anyway, it didn’t make much difference. Near the hotel is a small snack store and it is relatively quiet at night, though there was a big fight outside between locals but didn't last long. Room Room was fairly nice, coming from a 5 star resort I didn’t expect that much but room was quite comfortable. Bed was ok, small tv with many channels and AC unit. It was clean with some chairs. Weaknesses however were lack of any fridge to keep drinks cold and no safe. Also didn’t like the fact you have to take out room key to power room, so you can’t charge stuff when you’re out. Good range of plug sockets though and my room (308) had a great view of the local hillside. Limited amenities kettle and bottle of water.Bathroom had quite a high tech shower but poor functioning temperature as others have said doesn’t work well so shower was either very hot or freezing. But nice amenities. FacilitiesThere is a lift and there is a small lobby. Parking is opposite and reasonably good space. Restaurant is on top floor which offered breakfast & dinner. Despite other reviews saying they can make an early breakfast they didn’t offer this to me, when I said I wanted to be at Petra for 6am. StaffStaff were weakness, best described as disinterested. Obviously I understand guests will come for short time but they are more keen to tell you that their 'cousin can drive you to secret entrance of Petra, so you don't have to walk and they will make 'good price' rather than a sincere welcome and explaining anything about the hotel and facilities. Only the non-local porter was helpful with actually explaining room. A couple of times when I approached reception they look away and seem disinterested to engage but rather talk to their friends and chain smoke outside. Overall didn't find staff here approachable once you turn down the taxi service to the 'secret area of Petra'. However it was not expensive, the room was comfortable and it is close to Petra so fine for one night.

    Very very clean, modern hotel

    rating04 May 2023

Beds are super comfortable. Actually, one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Room was exceptionally clean and modern. Bathroom and shower were ultra modern and gorgeous. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. It's a 10 minute walk downhill to the Petra entrance. Coming back we took a taxi uphill after Petra because we were wiped out. The breakfast buffet has everything you could want. Dinner was inexpensive and plentiful but you had no choices. It was chicken noodle soup, about 7 different bowls of things like hummus and babaganoush and bread. The main course was chicken and rice. After 10 hours of trekking around Petra we were extremely grateful they had a restaurant.

Help in an emergency! Fantastic service.

    rating09 Jan 2023

We were due to stay in a Bedouin camp, but couldn't because of the recent flooding in Petra. The staff at the Shaqilath put up a group of 15 of us at the very last minute, and saved our holiday! They were friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, the rooms were comfortable and warm., so can't fault it. Would highly recommend.
