  If I could give this 3.5 stars on the rating, I would. 3/5 seems a bit short shrift but 4 is maybe a bit too much for my rating system.ProsIn terms of value for money it's very, very good and there's no way a hotel in England could match their nightly rate. The rooms themselves are clean and tidy, as is the hotel in general. Location wise, it's less than 50m from Daugavpils Iela tram stop. Just across the road is a corner shop where you can buy food, drink and a 24 hour / 5 day tram pass. So once you get to the hotel it's a good starting point with Lido Recreation centre about 5 stops / 20 minutes walk in one direction and Riga city centre about 10 stops in the other. The front desk are happy to hold your luggage if you arrive early or are leaving later that day in a secure room.Mixed Pro and ConThe front desk staff speak English, and will help you as best they can but more complex requests are harder to explain. I asked about visiting the hill of crosses, but I couldn't really get across what I was hoping to do.The area itself seems a bit shaky. I was stood outside in the street near the back of the hotel with my Latvian friend, DaGarry. He said it wasn't the best area and a couple of times some dishevelled drunks walked up to us, only to be repelled by DaGarry's steely gaze. To their credit, the Front Desk staff guard the front of the hotel zealously, there's no problem in the immediate area and you do feel safe. But I wouldn't wander about that area too much on my own after dark. Additionally, there doesn't seem to be too much going on in the immediate area other than the corner shop. So if you like bars you'd probably need to do things in the centre of Riga and get a late tram back.ConsThere's no lift. So if you're in a wheelchair or have limited mobility you're going to need a ground floor room. If you want a free leg workout go for the second floor, but for me after 8 hours exploring the city on foot it was a long climb up those stairs.Getting to the hotel from the airport by train and then tram would have been very difficult with a suitcase. I would strongly recommend a transfer service to and from the airport. There wasn't a fridge in my room, which I would have liked to have had. Latvia in general don't really go for icy cold vending machines. Interestingly, they have hot coffee vending machines in the streets because presumably it gets very cold in winter. But after a long day in April out it would have been nice to be able to have a nice cold drink rather than a room temperature one.I think Latvia is transitioning to a more touristy country, and in less than a decade it could be comparable to Czechia - they're just not there yet. In summary, if you want a bargain priced no-frills hotel you could do worse than here.

  Hotel room had bedbugs, i didn’t see them, but I was bitten all over the body with tipical bedbugs bites. smell was also so terrible, walls are paper thin. DO NOT GO IN HERE!!

  We had a lovely stay at the hotel, any member of staff we encountered was so lovely & helpful. We went for the marathon & it was perfect, it's only a short tram ride from the centre of everything. Beds very comfortable too. We lost our wallet at the marathon event & someone who lived in Latvia found it & contacted the hotel, the lady in reception let us use her phone so we weren't charged ringing a Latvian number from a UK number. Only con for me would be no wardrobe but that's a personal aesthetic of wanting things put away! So can't down grade them for that as there was plenty of space to ultimately store things. Baggage storage is available at no charge, a small shop is just over the road too & the tram is all but at the front door.

  Dirty bathrooms, our toilet literally had s**t in it when we arrived and the smell was overwhelmingly disgusting. Carpets are dirty so bring slippers. Breakfast was horrible, especially if you have any dietary/allergy restrictions. Coffee is abysmal. Staff was kind manger was NOT.

  My wife and I ended up booked into this hotel as part of a Wowcher deal. The only positive is the staff on the desk was friendly and informative. Hotel is not in a good location for visiting the city and the surrounding buildings looked derelict. The room was disgusting. When we walked in we hit in the face with a very stale musty smell and we were greeted with a room that had the appearance one which would usually charge by the hour. Stains as far as the eye could see. Walls, bed, floor, shower, sink. Completely basic. Not even a chair. Which is fine for the money but it wasn’t even clean. The man on the desk offered us a different room with the exscuse this one probably hadn’t been cleaned. It had all fresh towels and linens but anything beyond a cursory glance reveals how old and grimy it is. We declined the offer and opted to check out and find another hotel.
