Welcoming and trustworthy place to stay

    rating01 Jan 2026

My family stayed at Mile 36 Lodge during the rainy season (26/12/2025-27/12/2025). It was a lovely experience. The cool, crisp mountain air made the stay especially refreshing, and the peaceful surroundings added to the charm. Even with the rain, the atmosphere was calm and cozy, perfect for slowing down and enjoying nature. One small but memorable detail was the lodge’s friendly black dog, who added a lot of warmth and character to the place. I would also like to sincerely thank Shymie Philip for the exceptional honesty and kindness shown during our stay. My son accidentally left his AirPods behind, and Shymie went the extra mile to ensure they were safely sent back to us in Singapore. That level of care and integrity truly stood out and meant a lot to our family. Overall, Mile 36 Lodge is a welcoming and trustworthy place to stay, especially if you enjoy cool weather, nature, and genuine hospitality. Highly recommended.

    Best avoided!!

    rating29 May 2019

Booked last minute stay after spending previous night at Kinabalu National Park.Location is very convenient to National Park HQ (less than 5 minute drive) and yes the views were pretty impressive with a clear morning.Booked a “Double Deluxe Mountain View” room and overall the room and sheets were clean - not too sure what’s “deluxe” about it apart from a pretty cramped en suiteOur room was an outhouse isolated at the front of the complex The room was very cold with no heating providedApart from clean sheets and rooms there was very little positivesThe toilet shower en suite was cramped tiny and dirtyThe toilet constantly leaked every time we flushedThe shower never had any hot waterWe had an evening visit from a massive cockroach crawling beside our front doorIn terms of facilities there was a kettle and flask - but no tea / coffee or mugs - obviously aimed at a Oriental clientele.Despite being able to see Kinabalu mountain some 50KM away the wifi was “weather dependent” - and the staff were of no assistance trying to make sort out the issue.Extremely disappointed - Avoid if you can If you do stay here - don’t put any bags on the floor otherwise something nasty might end up in your bag!

works for the job-night stay before mountain climb

    rating20 Apr 2019

perfectly situation for mountain climb, the room shabby and i dont mean shabby chic. the receptionist was very nice but there was no record of our booking on their computer...despite receiving emails from the hotel and the booking being on my booking.com account-luckily they had rooms available.you could tell you had reached some altitude as when i took my packet of crisps out of my bag they had blown up-so idea place for spending time acclimatizing, although it didnt stop my nausea.the breakfast was very poor, no eggs as the kitchen was closed! but they still managed to produce noddles and rice. so we just had toast and cereals. there is a kettle in the room but you have to buy/supply your own tea/coffee ect. it is not far from the mountain start point so very handy. we did manage to get quite a good nights sleep, there was also a tiny balcony which had a lovely view.there were a few steps to walk down to get to room and we were told what room we had but would been nice to have been shown which one as i struggled to find it and had to keep asking, and all they did was point.
